Masdar City is a project in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. Its core is a planned city, which is being built by the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, a subsidiary of Mubadala Development Company, with the majority of seed capital provided by the government of Abu Dhabi. Designed by the British architectural firm Foster and Partners, the city will rely entirely on solar energy and other renewable energy sources, with a sustainable, zero-carbon, zero-waste ecology.

Explore the development of the parks and parkways that Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux designed for Buffalo, New York, beginning in 1868.
A thirteen-minute documentary inspired by the book by author Francis R. Kowsky, published by UMass Press in association with LALH June 2013. The Best Planned City is the third film in the new LALH series North America by Design, available to a worldwide audience.
At the time, this development of connected green spaces as a park system was a revolutionary idea. Olmsted and Vaux's plans drew national and international attention; they were displayed at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, where Olmsted declared Buffalo "the best planned city, as to its streets, public places, and grounds, in the United States, if not in the world."

Planned community
A planned community, or planned city, is any community that was carefully planned from its inception and is typically constructed in a previously undeveloped area. This contrasts with settlements that evolve in a more ad hoc fashion. Land use conflicts are less frequent in planned communities since they are planned carefully. The term new town refers to planned communities of the new towns movement in particular, mainly in the United Kingdom. It was also common in the European colonization of the Americas to build according to a plan either on fresh ground or on the ruins of earlier Amerindian cities.
Planned capital cities
Several of the world's capital cities are planned cities, including Canberra in Australia, Brasília in Brazil, Belmopan in Belize, New Delhi in India, Valletta in Malta, Abuja in Nigeria, Astana in Kazakhstan, Naypyidaw in Burma, Islamabad in Pakistan and Washington, D.C., in the United States. In Egypt, a new capital city east of Cairo has been proposed. The federal administrative centre of Malaysia, Putrajaya, is also a planned city.

Masdar City is a project in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. Its core is a planned city, which is being built by the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, a subsidiary of Mubadala Development Company, with the majority of seed capital provided by the government of Abu Dhabi. Designed by the British architectural firm Foster and Partners, the city will rely entirely on solar energy and other renewable energy sources, with a sustainable, zero-carbon, zero-waste ecology.

Uh, I think this goes here! Buggered if I know though. Right now, its all guesswork as I try to figure out what my fellow mayor's had planned. City By Committee is a continuation community game in Cities Skylines. The rules are, we each play 20 minutes before handing the save off to the next player. Here's the catch though, we can't peek at what the previous mayor has done, so we'll be going in blind each episode having only our wits and best guess as to what we're supposed to do next. In addition, we're not able to delete something another mayor has built unless it becomes superfluous. Our Goal is to reach 300,000 population or fill up the 9 squares available to us. The once-industrial town of Salgótarján, wich used to be an exemplary town of Socialist urban planning in the 1960-70s, is now struggling with the legacy of the past and the seemingly hopeless future. Its inhabitans have very ambivalent feelings towards their city and its past during socialism, although they have to live their daily life in the settings of the decaying modernist city, reminding them constantly of the previous system. After 1989, the city lost its former privileged status, most of its industry collapsed, and its population shrinked. This also shows that the progress of the 60s-70s was generated from above and was not sustainable – hence, the original plans to build a modern city and generate a cultural life, which is appropriate for the newly established built environment, and the scale of the utopic idea to create the „ideal Socialist city” and its ideal inhabitant is still astonishing.
Salgótarján was not a newly founded and erected town, but one that was radically transformed during the huge constructions of the 1960-70s, along with its former atmosphere and scale. The architectural quality of the city centre, characterised by the buildings of the Kádár era’s prominent architects (György Jánossy, György Szrogh, József Finta and Géza Magyar), was regarded as a standard and catalyst for other areas of life. The transformation of the city lasted for decades, and it gives us the opportunity to examine the accompanying architectural debates, utopias and compromises of the period. It also shows how the reigning power connected the notion of progress to these kind of towns, and used various methods to achieve that the urbanising masses would embrace the identity of the town-dweller. Decisions of cultural policy served a double aim: to shape the taste of working class inhabitants, and to strengthen the local identity. The lecture examines the interferences of urbanism and cultural policy through different junctions: the possible roles of artists in the town, the significance of sculptures on public squares, and the representation of Salgótarján at the Venice Biennial in 1976.

She has degrees in Art History and Film Theory and Film History from Eötvös Loránd University, and in Fine Art Theory from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, Budapest. From 2014 she worked as program supervisor at ACAX | Agency for Contemporary Art Exchange and as co-curator at OFF-Biennale Budapest. Since 2015 she has been working in Kassák Museum. Her fields of research are ephemeral artistic practices, the possibilities of artistic self-organization, and the cultural legacy of socialism. She has been dealing with the examination of this legacy both in her researches and as co-curator of the exhibition Past, Continuous – Contemporary reflections on the cultural legacy of Socialism (Budapest, 2014).
