A toast rack or toastrack is a serving piece having vertical partitions (usually from five to eight in number) connected to a flat base, used for holding slices of toast. It often has a central ring handle for carrying and passing round the table.
The term toast rack is also used in other fields, notably railways and architectural design, usually as a derivative term for objects resembling a toast rack (see below).
The earliest known examples of toast racks date from the 1770s. They have been made in large quantities since then and are still being made today.
By maintaining air gaps between the slices, the toast rack allows water vapor to escape from hot toast instead of condensing into adjacent slices and making them soggy. However, this increased air flow can also mean that the toast becomes cold more quickly.
The toast rack's design and shape follows prevailing fashion. The dividers were often made from silver wires and these in turn were soldered to either a wire-work or solid base that sat on four feet. Sometimes the base is separate and was used to dispose of any crumbs that fell. Some ingenious designs were made including expanding or folding types (so as to take up less space). Others had incorporated egg-cups or receptacles for jam or marmalade.
The Toast Rack, or the Hollings Building by its official name, is a Modernist building in Manchester, England. The building was completed in 1960 as the Domestic Trades College, became part of Manchester Polytechnic then Manchester Metropolitan University until closure of the "Hollings Campus" in 2013. It was designed by the city architect, Leonard Cecil Howitt and is known as the Toast Rack due to its distinctive form (reflecting its use as a catering college).
The pre-eminent architecture critic Nikolaus Pevsner described the building as "a perfect piece of pop architecture". It was Grade II listed in April 1998 by English Heritage who describe the structure as, "a distinctive and memorable building which demonstrates this architect's love of structural gymnastics in a dramatic way". To others the building symbolises the ideals of the Festival of Britain and architectural positivity following World War II.
The building's structure consists of a concrete frame with a brick infill on the bottom half of each storey. The building is seven storeys high and its hyperbolic paraboloid frame continues on the exterior, hence the toast rack comparison. Although the building's unorthodox form is playful, its tapering shape also helps to divide space into varying sizes for larger and smaller classes. A semi-circular restaurant block is attached to the west and is informally known as the Fried Egg
The ZX Spectrum (UK /zɛd ɛks ˈspɛktrəm/) is an 8-bit personal home computer released in the United Kingdom in 1982 by Sinclair Research Ltd.
Referred to during development as the ZX81 Colour and ZX82, the machine was launched as the ZX Spectrum by Sinclair to highlight the machine's colour display, compared with the black and white of its predecessor, the ZX81. The Spectrum was ultimately released as eight different models, ranging from the entry level model with 16 KB RAM released in 1982 to the ZX Spectrum +3 with 128 KB RAM and built in floppy disk drive in 1987; together they sold in excess of 5 million units worldwide (not counting numerous clones).
The Spectrum was among the first mainstream-audience home computers in the UK, similar in significance to the Commodore 64 in the USA. The introduction of the ZX Spectrum led to a boom in companies producing software and hardware for the machine, the effects of which are still seen; some credit it as the machine which launched the UK IT industry. Licensing deals and clones followed, and earned Clive Sinclair a knighthood for "services to British industry".

It seems the problems with a PlusD or PlusDlite interface when used on a ZX Spectrum 128K model, are caused by the Z80 CPU. Replacing this with a modern Zilog Z80 replacement (e.g. Z84C0008) or NEC D780C clone solves all problems.

The Modular Toast Rack is a simple to use bike rack which eliminates the risk of your tyre buckling while in storage. You can extend the rack as far as you require as the units all link together. Its hot galvanised finish means it will be rust free for life, allowing you to use it outdoors in the rough Irish weather. To lock the bike to the rack you simply pass your bicycle lock through the eye on the rack and attach it to the bike frame, meaning there is no risk of damaging the tyres.

History House, 25th February 2014 Peter Kahn talks about the steam trams and how Sydney suburbia developed. He will discuss the electric tram era and toastrack & jumping jack trams, the coloured destination symbols, the tram conductors on the footboards and newspaper boys. Peter will enlighten us with some basic statistics, before mentioning the replacement of trams with buses, preservation by the Museum and finally a little on the Light Rail in 1997, today and the future. About the speaker: Peter Kahn was born in Crown Street Women’s Hospital, on the West Kensington via Crown Street tramline. Arch. McVicar’s motor omnibus service ran past his parents’ poultry farm in Milperra. In primary school his interest in transport developed, particularly buses, then trains, trams and, living near Ba...
A walkthrough of the ZX Spectrum game, Spectron. From the recording originally sent to http://www.rzxarchive.co.uk/ . Some notes from the submitter: Spectron RZX by Jim Waterman, 8 August 2016 Recorded using Spectaculator 8.0 - playing time 32:32 It is well known that the 90-odd games compilation that was bundled with my Spectrum +2 in 1987 was of variable quality. Many of the games were from the Argus Press empire (including, by this time, A'n'F, Quicksilva, Bug-Byte and M.C. Lothlorien), some were from Visions Software Factory, and there were a few thrown in from the early days of Virgin Games, which - much as was the case with the Formula One team in 2010 - Richard Branson is unlikely to shout from the rooftops as one of his better ideas. Some of the games failed to load because they'...
Ain't no short way up the mountain
Ain't no easy way to cross that river
When it's draggin' you under
Ain't no sure thing you can count on
Break down these walls
I'll beg, I'll crawl
I'd risk it all to get to you
I fall in love, the hard way
And I fall in love, the hard way
Straight to your heart, the hard way
I got nothing left to lose
But I got everything to prove
To prove my love for you
I know just what I've gotta do
And I'll walk the wire
Above the fire
My one desires to get to you
I fall in love the, hard way
And I fall in love, the hard way
Straight to your heart
Ain't nothing worth havin'
If it comes too easy
'Cause if it comes too easy
You might lose that love someday, the hard way
Break down these walls
I'll beg, I'll crawl
I'd risk it all to get to you
I fall in love the hard way
Well I fall in love
(I fall in love)
I fall in, I fall in, I fall in
I fall in, I fall in, I fall in
I fall in the hard way
(I fall in love)
