About Google’s New Snack Pack

If you are a regular user of the Internet, it is likely that you are familiar with the most used search engine, Google. Being properly indexed and represented is the goal of virtually every website out there today, particularly those for businesses. Recently, Google unveiled their new “snack pack.”

This relates to how businesses show up at the top of the first results page. This returns to a more streamlined setting than Carousel, which many found to be a bit over the top and too much from the company, which is know for simplicity in their logo and operations.

The Internet giant is attempting to improve the experience for users that are seeking a local establishment, such as a restaurant. For companies, it is important to attempt to be represented well. Consumers that are able to obtain the needed information quickly are more likely to make a purchase. However, there are some troubles with the results from this new program.

For one thing, it does not readily show the address and phone number of the businesses on the short list at the top. Google provides a small blurb about the top businesses related to your search. This information is not directly from the company websites, nor does it appear to be based on consumer reviews.

When people see the list, they are not even provided with the city of the companies. This is a frustrating aspect of use that Google will hopefully change in the future in order to make the experience better for consumers. Additionally, the list does not link to the websites being discussed. When a person clicks on the business, an information block appears that is larger than the original. This will give out more information.

Site users can also click on the ratings in order to read the reviews that have been left for the company. This allows for easy access to a general consumer overview. The one problem is that the person is still not connected directly to the site.

It remains to be seen how popular the snack pack will be with users. If the search engine giant is able to tweak the experience for those surfing the web, it is likely to be fantastic. Otherwise, it could chase people away from the site and toward a competitor. Make sure the information on your company Google+ page is updated and complete for best results.
