Sufi music ensemble "Al-Firdaus" celebrates the Prophet Muhammad* with a 17th century poem, written in Aljamiado, Spanish using Arabic script. En 1884, lors de la restauration d’une maison dans un petit village espagnol, un manuscrit a été découvert, dissimulé dans un faux-plafond. Il remonte au XVIIème siècle et a été écrit dans la langue des Espagnols Musulmans persécutés, les Morisques. Le propriétaire de la maison avait caché le manuscrit avant d’être forcé à partir lors de l’expulsion finale des Morisques. Voici ce qu’il dit :

Blanca was the last and most important Morisco village in Spain in 1613. All the Moriscoes had to leave the country in 1609. The residents of Blanca, one of the six villages that belonged to the Ricote Valley, could postpone the expulsion until 1613. However, at the end of the year 1613 the sad announcement came that the Moriscoes of the Ricote Valley also had to leave the country. This was finally the case on December 13, 1613. About 75% of the population of 1000 inhabitants went on foot to the port of Cartagena, where the Moriscoes had to be embarked. A small portion of the 1000 inhabitants had escaped and withdrawn in the high mountains of Ricote. After 10 - 15 years, many came back. Finally around 45% of the former inhabitants of Blanca and the Ricote Valley could continue staying in their territories. These people married in the course of time with the Christians, and today Blanca is one of the most pious villages in the province of Murcia. This movie shows you the old Morisco neighborhood and the small winding streets that ran to the castle, and the very old houses of centuries ago. The expulsion was unlawful because the inhabitants were new christians. So this was another Hispanic Drama.

Morisco
Moriscos (Spanish: [moˈɾiskos], Catalan: [muˈɾiskus], [moˈɾiskos]; Portuguese: mouriscos [mo(w)ˈɾiʃkuʃ], [mo(w)ˈɾiskus]; meaning "Moorish") were former Muslims who converted or were coerced into converting to Christianity, after Spain finally outlawed the open practice of Islam by its sizeable Mudejar population in the early 16th century.
The Moriscos were subject to systematic expulsions from Spain's various kingdoms between 1609 and 1614, the most severe of which occurred in the eastern Kingdom of Valencia. The overall success of the expulsion is subject to academic debate although the large majority of those permanently expelled settled on the western fringe of the Ottoman Empire and the Kingdom of Morocco. The last mass prosecution against Moriscos for crypto-Islamic practices occurred in Granada in 1727, with most of those convicted receiving relatively light sentences. From then on, the indigenous practice of Islam is considered to have been effectively extinguished in Spain.

Juan Martín
Juan Cristóbal Martín is a Spanish flamenco guitarist and an author of flamenco guitar method books.
Career
Martín started learning the guitar at the age of six. In his early twenties he moved to Madrid to study under Niño Ricardo and Paco de Lucía. He played in clubs in Málaga, Seville and Granada. He soon moved to London, where he has developed most of his career. One of his first recordings was Picasso Portraits (1981) based on the music he played at Picasso's 90th birthday celebrations. Each section is a depiction of a painting by Pablo Picasso. Although it was not released until the 1990s, he recorded a track with Rory Gallagher in 1984 (on the album, Wheels Within Wheels). Also in 1984 his track "Love Theme from The Thorn Birds" reached number 10 in the UK Singles Chart. He recorded with Herbie Hancock in 1987 and has played on stage with Miles Davis.
Juan Martín is the author of several textbooks on flamenco playing, including El Arte Flamenco de la Guitarra, issued with cassette tapes and later with vinyl sound sheets, and 'Solos Flamencos' issued with CDs and DVDs. Both tutorial books, printed in English and Spanish, are successful in the English-speaking world.

Sufi music ensemble "Al-Firdaus" celebrates the Prophet Muhammad* with a 17th century poem, written in Aljamiado, Spanish using Arabic script. The music video also explores themes of nostalgia, alienation, and reconciliation pertaining to the Moriscos, the persecuted medieval Spanish Muslims. En 1884, lors de la restauration d’une maison dans un petit village espagnol, un manuscrit a été découvert, dissimulé dans un faux-plafond. Il remonte au XVIIème siècle et a été écrit dans la langue des Espagnols Musulmans persécutés, les Morisques. Le propriétaire de la maison avait caché le manuscrit avant d’être forcé à partir lors de l’expulsion finale des Morisques. Voici ce qu’il dit :

Blanca was the last and most important Morisco village in Spain in 1613. All the Moriscoes had to leave the country in 1609. The residents of Blanca, one of the six villages that belonged to the Ricote Valley, could postpone the expulsion until 1613. However, at the end of the year 1613 the sad announcement came that the Moriscoes of the Ricote Valley also had to leave the country. This was finally the case on December 13, 1613. About 75% of the population of 1000 inhabitants went on foot to the port of Cartagena, where the Moriscoes had to be embarked. A small portion of the 1000 inhabitants had escaped and withdrawn in the high mountains of Ricote. After 10 - 15 years, many came back. Finally around 45% of the former inhabitants of Blanca and the Ricote Valley could continue staying in their territories. These people married in the course of time with the Christians, and today Blanca is one of the most pious villages in the province of Murcia. This movie shows you the old Morisco neighborhood and the small winding streets that ran to the castle, and the very old houses of centuries ago. The expulsion was unlawful because the inhabitants were new christians. So this was another Hispanic Drama.
