Outcry were hands down the best straight edge band to come out of Minnesota. It’s too bad that the recordings that would document their career would be only 12 songs. They released one 7 song EP on Positive Force (7 Seconds’ label), one track on a compilation LP from the same sessions and for the same label, and about 10 years after they broke up, a 4 song 7" EP. That’s it, and that is a shame.
I saw Outcry play several times in their short existence. Most notably was opening for 7 Seconds at McCready’s pub in downtown Minneapolis. It was that show that set them up for the Positive Force releases. All of this stuff is just about impossible to find these days (but I think I still have a few sealed copied of the 12" EP in my basement somewhere) so grab it now while you can!

I’ve been looking for this record, and their second offering “Pink” for quite some time. I used to see them both in the record stores back in the day, but for some reason, never this one (I do own Pink, but haven’t listened to it in decades). From what I remember, Pink just wasn’t my thing (probably why I never bought this one) but the bass player from Ground Zero went on to play in what is possibly Minnesota’s first straight-edge hardcore band…Outcry (went on to release on EP on Positive Force, and a single on Red Decibel).
In the early 80’s Outcry was my favorite HC band. I got to see them a few times, and they had that awesome record on Positive Force. Outside of that EP, and the “Another Shot for Braken” comp, that was about it for them in the 80’s. Long after they broke up, Red Decibel released “The Buffalo” EP, which was tracks from what I understand to be an unreleased album worth of material. Sadly, it wasn’t the same sXe HC. Anyway, Beaten Man is from that first EP, and covered by one of the best late 80’s early 90’s punk bands to come out of this state. The Libido lineup is also in the classic and far superior lineup that featured Dustin on Bass.
My name is Dave, and I grew up in Minnesota listening to the many punk & hard core bands that I'm featuring here. More important though, is that I'm not just posting the stuff that like, but I'm making an attempt to document every band that had something to do with the punk scene in Minnesota. From your Husker Du & Replacements to Dirt Poor & the Kung Fools. Bands that played bars, and bands that played basements and garages. I'd like it all represented here.
I'd also like your help. I can't possible do it all by myself, so if you want to see something here, let me know. If you see something on the net that deserves a mention here, let me know. If you'd like to contribute, let me know.
If you are in a band that I've posted here, and you want your stuff removed, just ask, and it will be removed. Most of my posts are links to other people's posts. Some of it is from my personal record collection. It is my intent to only post stuff that you can not otherwise buy. Long out of print stuff. If I link to stuff that is in print, I will try to include a link to actually purchase it. That won't happen very often though, since I try to post only stuff that I know to be out of print. If the band has an official website, I'll try to post a link to it. If I get something wrong, or you'd like to contribute something, let me know.
All I ask is that you enjoy the crap I post and if you have any suggestions, send me an email at: webbastard at mnpunk.com
