RFC News

In a huge outpouring of support, more than 4300 people to date have signed the petition calling on President Obama to exonerate Ethel Rosenberg. But many have asked why just Ethel, and not Julius, too? The Rosenbergs' son, Robert Meeropol, answers that question in a guest blog, here.

The RFC's Spring newsletter announces the launch today, of a petition campaign from the Rosenberg/Meeropol family, calling on President Obama to exonerate Ethel Rosenberg before he leaves office.

Sign the petition, read about the extraordinary recent developments that led to this effort; hear about our wonderful 25th anniversary event celebrating "Artists as Activists" and an exciting new addition to our Advisory Board; and find stories of how our most recent grants are helping the kids we support, and more, here.

Combining parenting and activism – and in many cases, making art – is at the heart of our project, but it’s not an easy road. Blending two, or even three of these elements, presents challenges, some of which the RFC meets with our grants. But integrating these roles is centrally important to many members of our community, from the targeted activists whose children receive our aid, to artists who are connected with us in various ways.  Some of their thoughts on why they’ve chosen to blend activism, parenting, and in some cases, artistic careers, despite the pressures and risks, are on the RFC blog, here.

Exec. Director Jenn Meeropol recently participated in a "Free All Political Prisoners" panel at the 2016 Reb Law Conference at Yale Law School. She shares her thoughts on the panel, conference and some important organizational allies on the RFC blog here.

Every day the RFC receives correspondence from our community. Two recent notes that accompanied modest donations, are wildly different in almost every way, from tone, to content, to what about the RFC resonates with the writers. But they each illuminate powerful reasons why many thousands of people - across several generations and with varying points of connection - care so deeply about our work helping today's children of targeted activists. Read them on the RFC blog here.

In the fall of 2015 four new families received their first RFC grants. Including the seven new recipients in the spring, almost a dozen families and targeted activist youth joined the RFC community last year. Several of their stories are highlighted on the RFC blog, here.

As we wrap up this 25th anniversary year that has included our ongoing salute to "artists as activists," Holly Near and Angela Davis share a message via video, here, about why they are such staunch RFC supporters. Along with participating in a number of our events over the years, Holly and Angela are also long-time members of our Advisory Board. We're proud and grateful that they continue to be part of our community that stands with the children of targeted activists, and with youth activists targeted for their own organizing.

As supporters consider making year-end contributions, we're pleased to announce that we've received "4 Stars," the highest mark that the widely-respected, independent rating service Charity Navigator awards. This trusted source confirms what our donors already know: the RFC uses our resources extremely efficiently, to maximize the aid we are able to provide to the children of targeted activists, and to youth targeted for their own organizing.

"Thank you for the work you do. Donation attached." (Received with a contribution this week.) Sometimes, short and sweet, says it best. To learn how our work has enriched the lives of the vulnerable kids and youth we aid, read Jenn Meeropol's year-end message to our community, here. And please consider making a tax-deductible gift so that we can continue helping the children of resistance in 2016.

RFC and Rosenberg commemorative posters and t-shirts are now for sale on our Merchandise page. Items include vintage Cuban posters celebrating Ethel and Julius, RFC logo shirts, and posters and shirts from past RFC Carry it Forward and Celebrate the Children of Resistance events.
