A dream come true Friday night for an area Hospice patient who became a bride in a rose garden ceremony that delighted not only those who attended her wedding, but also millions of other people around the world. Even though most people who are planning a wedding need months, or sometimes years to work out every little detail, out of circumstance and necessity, a young Schenectady couple had only two weeks to get the job done.
Nineteen year old Jahaysia Graham always dreamed about being a bride, but after being diagnosed with cancer just over a year ago, it looked like her dream was shattered. Two weeks ago, 20-year old Jathyis LaJuett proposed to his longtime girlfriend, and when the Community Hospice posted the story on its Facebook page, things went mega-viral.
"It kind of started out small and it got larger and the story continued to unfold and it touched so many people," said Steven Many, executive director of the Community Hospice. "We had contacts from Australia, the UK, Ireland. It was just amazing, an amazing love story is what it comes down to."
More then 12-million people saw the Facebook post. More than 350,000 "liked" it. Then, all of a sudden, people from all over the world began contacting hospice, wanting to know how they could help.
The wedding dresses, the tuxedos, the flowers, the limousine service, the food and beverage, and the DJ service at the reception were all donated. "I'm just so happy right now," said Sherry LaJuett, the groom's mother. I never thought I would see so many people at such a special event," said LaToya Sheffield, mother of the bride. "I have no idea who half of them are but I know why they're here and that's enough for me."
"I think it's what they wanted," said Mary LaJuett, the groom's grandmother. "They dreamed about this when they were young and they got what they wanted."
Hospice has also arranged for a special honeymoon at a local hotel.

Hospice is a type of care and a philosophy of care that focuses on the palliation of a terminally ill patient's symptoms. These symptoms can be physical, emotional, spiritual or social in nature. Hospice care focuses on bringing comfort, self-respect, and tranquility to the dying patient. Patients’ symptoms and pain are controlled to help reach these goals; however, the focus is providing care, not curing. The concept of hospice has been evolving since the 11th century. Then, and for centuries thereafter, hospices were places of hospitality for the sick, wounded, or dying, as well as those for travelers and pilgrims. The modern concept of hospice includes palliative care for the incurably ill given in such institutions as hospitals or nursing homes, but also care provided to those who would rather die in their own homes. It began to emerge in the 17th century, but many of the foundational principles by which modern hospice services operate were pioneered in the 1950s by Dame Cicely Saunders. Hospice care also involves assistance for patients’ families to help them cope with what is happening. Although the movement has met with some resistance, hospice has rapidly expanded through the United Kingdom, the United States and elsewhere.

All in the house go into have an ulterior motive, Zhou and Li are at a loss for what to do in these situation that seems people have complicated relations each other. A dream come true Friday night for an area Hospice patient who became a bride in a rose garden ceremony that delighted not only those who attended her wedding, but also millions of other people around the world. Even though most people who are planning a wedding need months, or sometimes years to work out every little detail, out of circumstance and necessity, a young Schenectady couple had only two weeks to get the job done.
Nineteen year old Jahaysia Graham always dreamed about being a bride, but after being diagnosed with cancer just over a year ago, it looked like her dream was shattered. Two weeks ago, 20-year old Jathyis LaJuett proposed to his longtime girlfriend, and when the Community Hospice posted the story on its Facebook page, things went mega-viral.
"It kind of started out small and it got larger and the story continued to unfold and it touched so many people," said Steven Many, executive director of the Community Hospice. "We had contacts from Australia, the UK, Ireland. It was just amazing, an amazing love story is what it comes down to."
More then 12-million people saw the Facebook post. More than 350,000 "liked" it. Then, all of a sudden, people from all over the world began contacting hospice, wanting to know how they could help.
The wedding dresses, the tuxedos, the flowers, the limousine service, the food and beverage, and the DJ service at the reception were all donated. "I'm just so happy right now," said Sherry LaJuett, the groom's mother. I never thought I would see so many people at such a special event," said LaToya Sheffield, mother of the bride. "I have no idea who half of them are but I know why they're here and that's enough for me."
"I think it's what they wanted," said Mary LaJuett, the groom's grandmother. "They dreamed about this when they were young and they got what they wanted."
Hospice has also arranged for a special honeymoon at a local hotel.

Cinema, teatro, musica e letteratura si fondono in un’alchimia di immagini esteticamente perfette e di grande suggestione emotiva: intrecci visivi complessi, dall'atmosfera poetica ed allo stesso tempo sconcertante, collocati in una dimensione atemporale.
Una poetica che gli artisti amano definire “esistenzialismo tecnologico” poiché si tratta di una riflessione di tipo esistenziale sulla condizione umana attraverso un linguaggio sofisticato ed altamente tecnologico.
Nell’universo poetico dei MASBEDO rivestono grande importanza i titoli delle opere, spesso affascinanti e pieni di mistero (Teorema di incompletezza, Autopsia del Tralalà, I have not a dream, Una costante perdita di magia)
Look Beyond è traducibile come uno sguardo oltre, uno sguardo al di là. Si riferisce all’impulso vitale al di là del pensiero ed introduce un flusso di immagini complesse che creano con lo spettatore una relazione ricca di stimoli visivi ed intellettuali.
Nel video si alternano immagini di carattere scientifico, provenienti da un’istituto oftalmico di Milano, ad immagini poetiche ed evocative di struggente bellezza.
Un susseguirsi di visioni liriche della natura e di sguardi: sguardi inquadrati in primissimo piano, sguardi infantili, sguardi femminili. Immagini dell’occhio inteso come organo della vista, ma anche come veicolo di emozioni e di ricordi, come soglia che trasmette le emozioni dall’esterno all’interno. E poi immagini simboliche di mani che si sfiorano, che si intrecciano, che accarezzano l’acqua.
È un lavoro sulla memoria e sul ricordo in cui si intrecciano, da una parte, un’indagine poetica sulla permanenza delle immagini nella memoria e dall’altra un’analisi di tipo scientifico sulla percezione delle immagini.
Gli artisti hanno infatti condotto la loro ricerca nei territori della scienza medica traendo ispirazione da un esame oculistico: la fluorangiografia retinica, dalla quale risulta che l’occhio è un organo vivo e costantemente ricettivo che viene stimolato dalle immagini anche se in quel preciso istante l’attenzione o la consapevolezza del soggetto sono assenti.
Da questa suggestiva indicazione è nata l’idea di mettere in scena un possibile dialogo tra la sofferenza e l’emozione della bellezza, della speranza e dei ricordi; così come è nata la volontà di restituire immagini intese come stimoli visivi, come impulsi vitali al di là del pensiero.
Nicolò Masazza (Milano 1973 ) e Jacopo Bedogni (Sarzana 1970) vivono e lavorano tra Milano e Berlino. È un lavoro sulla memoria e sul ricordo in cui si intrecciano, da una parte, un’indagine poetica sulla permanenza delle immagini nella memoria e dall’altra un’analisi di tipo scientifico sulla percezione delle immagini.
Gli artisti hanno infatti condotto la loro ricerca nei territori della scienza medica traendo ispirazione da un esame oculistico: la fluorangiografia retinica, dalla quale risulta che l’occhio è un organo vivo e costantemente ricettivo che viene stimolato dalle immagini anche se in quel preciso istante l’attenzione o la consapevolezza del soggetto sono assenti.
Da questa suggestiva indicazione è nata l’idea di mettere in scena un possibile dialogo tra la sofferenza e l’emozione della bellezza, della speranza e dei ricordi; così come è nata la volontà di restituire immagini intese come stimoli visivi, come impulsi vitali al di là del pensiero.

Her educational background includes a Masters of Divinity and a Doctorate in Ministry, with specialization in the field of Ministry at the End of Life, and in her practice she developed and taught the Vigil Volunteer Training Program.
Katherine’s work with dying patients uniquely qualifies her for her discussion at the 2015 IANDS Annual Conference in San Antonio, TX on the topic, Death as Transition: The Soul’s Withdrawal from the Body and NDE’s during the Dying Process. Katherine examines the transition of the soul as it withdraws from the physical body during the dying process, and reflects on the Near-Death Experience in terms of the withdrawal and subsequent return of the soul to the physical body. She compares the physical description of the dying process to the changes in consciousness as the soul passes from the physical body into the non-physical and spiritual realms. In her work she also shares her guidelines on how those at the bedside of a dying person can provide a compassionate, caring, listening presence to support the dying person who has experienced an NDE.

C'è una legge, la legge 38 del 2010 che stabilisce il diritto di ogni persona di accedere alle cure palliative e alla terapia del dolore. La legge prevede la creazione di una rete, che faccia capo alle asl per assistere costantemente il malato a casa (quando è possibile) oppure attraverso il ricovero in strutture dedicate. E c'è una legge addirittura del 1999 che ha stanziato dei fondi per la costruzione queste strutture: gli hospice. Gli hospice non sono nè Rsa (le residenze sanitarie assistenziali) né ospizi. E per essere accreditati con il sistema sanitario nazionale devono soddisfare dei criteri specifici, stanze singole, personale qualificato, spazio per i familiari e luoghi ricreativi per i pazienti.
Nel 2010, anno dell'ultimo censimento ufficiale, gli hospice in italia erano 229. gestiti da privati, fondazioni o pubblici. Le regioni con il maggior numero di hospice in rapporto agli abitanti sono l'Emilia Romagna e la Lombardia. Mentre ci sono regioni con uno o due hospice soltanto e che non hanno nemmeno utilizzato i fondi del '99. Insomma mentre sulla carta il diritto è garantito, la qualità dell'assistenza non è garantita equamente a tutti i cittadini.
C'è poi un altro problema: si stima che addirittura 9 pazienti su 10 non siano informati sulla propria effettiva condizione di salute né del fatto che la prognosi non superi i tre mesi di vita. Così ci sono pazienti che fino agli ultimi giorni di vita si sottopongono a chemioterapie o ad altri trattamenti invasivi sperando in un impossibile miglioramento, con un grave peggioramento della qualità di vita e privati della possibilità di decidere consapevolmente.
