The Barcelona Cruise Ship Terminal In Southern Spain is one of the busiest Cruise Ship ports in the world rivaling those in Miami and Ft Lauderdale Florida.
This video shows you what to expect once you arrive at the Barcelona Airport, some of the sights along the way between the Airport and Cruise Ship Terminal.
The Barcelona International Airport is also one of the busiest in Europe with over 35 million passengers each year. The Airport itself is an ultra-modern wonder of steel and glass with an obvious design geared towards future expansion. The Barcelona Airport and Cruise terminal are only about 8 miles apart or about a 30-40 minute drive depending on traffic levels. The drive is partially highway and part surface roads with the slowest portion being within the huge port of Barcelona itself.
The Port of Barcelona is visited by at least 15 major cruise ships throughout the year and services approximately 2.6 million cruise passengers per year including those traveling to popular Spanish island destinations. On any given day you may see mega ships from major cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Princess, MSC, and other European lines such as Aida. It is no surprise that the Cruise terminals are clean, modern and spacious as any found in other major cruise ship hubs. Barcelona seems to be geared for tourism and has invested heavily into making Barcelona a world class destination.

Barcelona (English /bɑrsɨˈloʊnə/, Catalan: [bərsəˈɫonə], Spanish: [barθeˈlona]) is the capital of Catalonia and the second largest city in Spain, after Madrid, with a population of 1,621,537 within its administrative limits on a land area of 101.4 km2 (39 sq mi). The urban area of Barcelona extends beyond the administrative city limits with a population of between 4,200,000 and 4,500,000 within an area of 803 km2 (310 sq mi), being the sixth-most populous urban area in the European Union after Paris, London, the Ruhr, Madrid and Milan. About five million people live in the Barcelona metropolitan area. It is also Europe's largest metropolis on the Mediterranean Sea. It is the main component of an administrative area of Greater Barcelona, with a population of 3,218,071 in an area of 636 km² (density 5,060 hab/km²). It is located on the Mediterranean coast between the mouths of the rivers Llobregat and Besòs and is bounded to the west by the Serra de Collserola ridge (512 m/1,680 ft).
Founded as a Roman city, Barcelona became the capital of the County of Barcelona. After merging with the Kingdom of Aragon, Barcelona became one of the most important cities of the Crown of Aragon. Besieged several times during its history, Barcelona has a rich cultural heritage and is today an important cultural centre and a major tourist destination. Particularly renowned are the architectural works of Antoni Gaudí and Lluís Domènech i Montaner, which have been designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The headquarters of the Union for the Mediterranean is located in Barcelona. The city is known for hosting the 1992 Summer Olympics as well as world-class conferences and expositions, including the 1888 Exposición Universal de Barcelona, the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition (Expo 1929), the 2004 Universal Forum of Cultures, and the 2004 World Urban Forum.

This week we are exploring another Spanish city. We are in Barcelona and this video is going to highlight 25 things to do here.
It is kind of hard to believe our time in Barcelona has expired. So final thoughts.
Well, it was a really fun city to visit. Great architecture, really nice beaches. It is very lively especially at night. The only downfall is that we were here in the middle of summer so it was super hot and super crowded and sometimes that made it a little bit difficult to enjoy. Especially at midday or in the mid-afternoon. So keep that in mind. Maybe consider visiting in the springtime, fall, winter.
Well, so what did you think of the city?
It is definitely a fun city. We had a lot of fun going to the beaches. One thing that is really different about this city compared to some other European cities though is that it is really spread out. In order for us to visit all of these different attractions we had to chunk them together into groups to visit them day by day. Overall, it was a decent city. It didn't quite click with me the same way that Madrid did. But that is just personal preference I suppose.
And that is a wrap for Barcelona! Our 5 days in the city flew by, and while this guide didn't cover everything, we hope we were able to give you a feel of what this fun seaside city has to offer. Its buildings are unique examples of Gothic architecture and the vast dimensions of the dockyard allowed 30 ships to be built simultaneously in the name of the Catalonian-Aragon crown.
Few parks are as famous as the Park Güell. With this, Antoni Gaudi created a new design concept in this fabulous garden city. At its entrance, Gaudi placed a colorful lizard as a symbol of the water that is collected in subterranean cisterns and is used for the distribution of water in the park. The city itself is also featured in Gaudi's magnificent fantasies. The Palau Güell was treated to an ostentatious roof with a great array of air shafts and chimneys. But the sight that captures the imagination of most who see it is the amazing façade of the Casa Mila, a unique apartment block without equal. Not a single wall is straight, glass and plaster were used for its façade and colourful ornamental ceramics complete the work.
Barcelona is a melting pot that ranges from Gothic to Modernism, a veritable explosion of joie de vivre and creativity.

The Barri Gòtic (Catalan for "Gothic Quarter") is the center of the old city of Barcelona. Many of the buildings date from medieval times, some from as far back as the Roman settlement of Barcelona. Catalan modernista architecture (related to the movement known as Art Nouveau in the rest of Europe), developed between 1885 and 1950 and left an important legacy in Barcelona. Several of these buildings are World Heritage Sites. Especially remarkable is the work of architect Antoni Gaudí, which can be seen throughout the city. His best-known work is the immense but still unfinished church of the Sagrada Família, which has been under construction since 1882, and is still financed by private donations. As of 2007, completion is planned for 2026.
Barcelona was also home to Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Pavilion. Designed in 1929 for the International Exposition for Germany, it is an iconic building that came to symbolize modern architecture as the embodiment of van der Rohe's aphorisms "less is more" and "God is in the details." The Barcelona pavilion was intended as a temporary structure, and was torn down in 1930 less than a year after it was constructed. A modern re-creation by Spanish architects now stands in Barcelona, however, constructed in 1986.
Barcelona won the 1999 RIBA Royal Gold Medal for its architecture,the first (and as of 2015, only) time that the winner has been a city, and not an individual architect.

Palau de la Música Catalana and Hospital de Sant Pau, designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, included in the UNESCO Heritage List in 1997.
Works by Antoni Gaudí, including Park Güell, Palau Güell, Casa Milà (La Pedrera), Casa Vicens, Sagrada Família (Nativity façade and crypt), Casa Batlló, Crypt in Colonia Güell. The first three works were inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1984. The other four were added as extensions to the site in 2005.

Air Traffic Control: Holding Patterns over Barcelona
On December 23, 2012, "Spain was under the influence of a large high pressure system. The day in Barcelona had thus been clear, the high humidity however created increasing fog in the evening requiring low visibility procedures invoked at Barcelona Airport leaving only runway 25R available for approaches. As result more and more aircraft needed to be sent into holds around Barcelona, the approach frequency became more and more busy until there were transmissions nearly without any interruptions around 20:15L (19:15Z). The approach controller at that time was advising aircraft checking in on frequency, that their approach times would be around about 19:50Z, centers around Barcelona TMA showed a 40 minutes holding time for all aircraft inbound Barcelona. On December 23, 2012, "Spain was under the influence of a large high pressure system. The day in Barcelona had thus been clear, the high humidity however created increasing fog in the evening requiring low visibility procedures invoked at Barcelona Airport leaving only runway 25R available for approaches. As result more and more aircraft needed to be sent into holds around Barcelona, the approach frequency became more and more busy until there were transmissions nearly without any interruptions around 20:15L (19:15Z). The approach controller at that time was advising aircraft checking in on frequency, that their approach times would be around about 19:50Z, centers around Barcelona TMA showed a 40 minutes holding time for all aircraft inbound Barcelona.
The scenario became increasingly critical, a number of crews holding around Barcelona were considering their options and inquired about their estimated approach times. Initially the controller was still able to provide such estimates. During those exchanges the controller announced, that only Girona was in the clear and available as alternate aerodrome, all other aerodromes were under restrictions due to weather too. The controller ended most of his transmissions with "Break! Break!" in order the issue the next instruction to some other aircraft. By about 19:15Z the controller acknowledged nearly all requests for estimated approach times with "I'll call you, break! break!"
It was obvious that despite the obvious overload on approach frequency with aircraft still handed off to approach by surrounding centers there were no suitable steps taken by supervisors to assist the controller or reduce his workload thus permitting his workload grow beyond capacity, so that fuel emergencies became inevitable. The situation worsened further out of hand when at 19:30Z the controller needed to state that Barcelona was full (meaning no parking space remained available) and a few minutes later needed to state that Girona had run full as well prompting a pilot comment "Let the aircraft land and put them on taxiways, carpark, roof ... but on the ground!". The controller was subsequently able to state that Palma Mallorca was open as an alternate aerodrome and in the clear.
