AIADMK councillor hacked to death in
Madurai
MADURAI: An AIADMK councillor was allegedly hacked to death by two persons here tonight, police said.
Vijayaraghavan (42), councillor of 51st ward, was sitting in his friend's shop when two persons came there, attacked him with sickles and knives and fled the spot, they said.
He was rushed to a private hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.
Police said the motive for the murder was unclear.

Madurai Corporation councillor, Vijayaraghavan was hacked to death on Sunday at Munichalai .
The deceased, representing ward number 51 of Madurai Corporation, was also the ward secretary of All
India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).
Police said that Vijayaraghavan, along with two others, was sitting in front of a shop when an armed gang attacked him. He suffered multiple injuries on his head.
He was rushed to a private hospital, where he was later referred to the
Government Rajaji Hospital.
However, he is said to have died on the way.
The Commissioner of Police,
Shailesh Kumar Yadav, who inspected the scene of crime said that the murder was not related to political rivalry. It is believed that it was a case of personal rivalry that had led to the murder.
Special teams have been formed to nab the accused.

Personal enmity suspected to be reason for the murder
An armed gang attacked a Madurai Corporation councillor, K. Vijayaraghavan (47) of Ismailpuram, to death at Munichalai on Sunday night.
The deceased, representing
Ward 51 of the
Corporation, was also the ward secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). Police said that Vijayaraghavan, along with two others, was sitting in front of an electrical shop in the locality when an armed gang hacked him around 8 p.m
. In the attack, he suffered multiple injuries on his head.
He was rushed to a private hospital immediately, from where he was referred to Government Rajaji Hospital. However, he died on the way.
Commissioner of Police Shailesh Kumar Yadav, who inspected the scene of crime on the busy road, said that the grave crime appeared to be no way related to political rivalry. It looked like the result of personal enmity.
Special police teams have been formed to nab the accused.
As the news spread, a large number of party men thronged the hospital. A large posse of police was deployed in and around the premises on Panagal
Road to prevent any untoward incident.
