Losi 5ivet Clone DTT 1/5 Scale Truck Aussie Testing
Over the course of a month or so in early
2015, the guys here at
Chef RC have been product testing the
DTT 1/5 scale petrol powered RC by 30 degree
North. 30 degrees North is a RC model manufacturing company based in
China. This
DDT trophy truck which retails for approximately $1200
AUD is a clone version of the infamous Losi
5ive T 4x4 vehicle that retails for $1900AUD With this in mind, this reviews aims to work out where the cost saving have been made, and how well it compares against the original Losi 5ive T.
Setup
Quick rundown of the specs, the DTT1 is a 1/5 scale 4x4WD Losi clone that is 97cm long X 52.5cm wide and 34cm high. It weighs in at 17.3 Kg, with an air cooled 29cc CY copy single cylinder
2 stroke petrol engine with a 997 Walbro Carburetor attached.
Fuel capacity is at 800cc. The chassis and support frame are constructed from aviation grade aluminum. Generic waterproof 50kg servo takes care of the steering while a generic waterproof 30kg throttle servo is also installed.
Tuned exhaust pipe is also fitted. It has 7mm adjustable front and rear shocks absorbers. 30
Degree North also throws in a GT3B 2.4GHz 3 channel controller with an
LCD screen. With these component combined, this machine is cable of reaching 80km/h.
Testing
To conduct our product review, we’ve used 2 locations. The
Wacol track, located in 25mins South-West of
Brisbane, is a 1/5 scale track run by
SEQ large scale off road RC has both a 1/5 scale RC track and a rock crawling setup. Our other test location is in
Carole Park, 30mins away from Brisbane. It is a
Ipswich city council maintained facility with a general purpose dirt setup that includes large
singles, table top jumps, banks and boasts a
100m tarmac drag strip.
The
Results
The Good
The Durability of the roll cage is excellent. The plastics used in the construction are excellent considering the number of stacks and heavy landings we have had. (
4/5).The Durability of the chassis with its aviation quality aluminum has held up well during testing. (4/5)
We’ve found that the DTT clone has the same handling characteristics that that of the Losi 5ive
T. (4/5). This DTT clone in stock form is faster than a stock Losi 5ive T due to its slight bigger CY copy 29cc engine.
Unfortunately, when it came to filming this along the drag strip, we encountered a catastrophic engine failure.
The Car sits very well. However, the
Shock absorbers also appear to have been short filled, with a small leaks in some of the shock absorber by the end of testing. (3/5)
The wheels and tyres have held up well, with even wear and no tyre delamination.(4/5)
The Bad.
The plastics used in the construction of the body panel appear to be brittle. We’ve been assured by guys at
30 degrees north that this will be taken care of in next revisions of the truck (3/5).
The Ugly.
Due to either chassis flex or poorly machined engine mounts, there appears to be uneven wear on the center differential.
Metal filings were found to be present in the differential housing as a result of little to no lubrication.(2/5)
Excessive movement both up and down in the engine housing. Suspected faulty differential housing or due to excessive temperature generated by un-lubricated gears, have melted the bearing cups and have warped the housing out of shape.
We found a lot of metal fillings present in the
Cylinder head. The piston itself was scored pretty badly. We could have been unlucky as this could have been a manufacturing defect. We understand that this engine is popular and is sold in a couple of countries such as Hobby1 in
Malaysia. If anyone else has experienced this type of engine failure with the CY copy engine, please comment below
