Bük

Bük is a town in Vas County, Hungary very close to the Austrian border. Nowadays it has a reputation for being a very popular holiday destination in Hungary and one of the major spa and wellnes spots in Central Europe.

Location

The town is situated 27 kilometers from Szombathely at the Répce-river plains.

History

The village is first mentioned in charters in 1271 with the name: Byk. The church was built in the 12th century, so the village is even older. In 1461 the name of the village is Poss. Vinchefalwa Byk. The name corresponds to the old Vinczlófalva-Bik, which is now called Felső-Bükk. In the 15th century there were three Bik villages (Alsó-Bük, Mankó-Bük and Felsö-Bük). The Büki Family was the landowner. Their descendants are the Mankóbüki Horváth, Mankóbüki Balogh and the Felsőbüki Nagy families. Pál Felsőbüki Nagy was a famous member of the Hungarian House of Representatives in the 19th century. Other notable landowners were the Counts Cseszneky who bought Alsóbük in the 16th century.

Burger King

Burger King, often abbreviated as BK, is an American global chain of hamburger fast food restaurants headquartered in unincorporated Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The company began in 1953 as Insta-Burger King, a Jacksonville, Florida-based restaurant chain. After Insta-Burger King ran into financial difficulties in 1954, its two Miami-based franchisees, David Edgerton and James McLamore, purchased the company and renamed it Burger King. Over the next half century, the company would change hands four times, with its third set of owners, a partnership of TPG Capital, Bain Capital, and Goldman Sachs Capital Partners, taking it public in 2002. In late 2010, 3G Capital of Brazil acquired a majority stake in BK in a deal valued at US$3.26 billion. The new owners promptly initiated a restructuring of the company to reverse its fortunes. 3G, along with partner Berkshire Hathaway, eventually merged the company with Canadian-based doughnut chain Tim Hortons under the auspices of a new Canadian-based parent company, Restaurant Brands International.

Bacău

Bacău (Romanian pronunciation: [baˈkəw]; German: Barchau, Hungarian: Bákó) is the main city in Bacău County, Romania. At the 2011 census it had a population of 144,307, making it the 15th largest city in Romania. The city is situated in the historical region of Moldavia, at the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, and on the Bistrița River (which meets the Siret River about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) to the south of Bacău). The Ghimeș Pass links Bacău to the region of Transylvania.

Etymology

The town's name, which features in Old Church Slavonic documents as Bako, Bakova or Bakovia, comes most probably from a personal name. Men bearing the name Bakó or Bako are documented in medieval Transylvania and in 15th-century Bulgaria, but the name itself is of Turkic – most probably of Cuman or Pecheneg – origin. Another theory suggests that the town's name has a Slavic origin, pointing to the Proto-Slavic word byk, meaning "ox" or "bull", the region being very suitable for raising cattle; the term, rendered into Romanian alphabet as bâc, was probably the origin of Bâcău. In German it is known as Barchau, in Hungarian as Bákó and in Turkish as Baka.

Bäk is a village in Khost Province, Afghanistan and the center of the boundary Bak District, close to the border with Pakistan. It is located on 33°30′N 70°03′E / 33.5°N 70.05°E / 33.5; 70.05 at 1137 m altitude.
