Cedillo (Casalinho in Portuguese) is a town and municipality in Spain, located in the province of Cáceres, community of Extremadura. According to the 2008 census (INE), the municipality has a population of 518 inhabitants.
The town is close to the border with Portugal. Although the official language is Spanish, the traditional local dialect is a variety of Portuguese. The Portuguese spoken here is not Standard Portuguese but instead consists of an archaic Portuguese dialect arrived in the 18th century known as Cedilhero. It is similar to the Alentejan dialect of Portuguese spoken in the neighbouring area of Portugal.
Portuguese is spoken here because most of the first inhabitants of this region were Portuguese colonists who arrived in the 18th century. In addition, in Cedillo, speaking Spanish was considered an act of pedantry and a symbol of social and economic relief. The children who could attend school spoke Spanish because they learned it in school, but they still spoke Portuguese in their homes.
Gilbert Anthony Cedillo (born March 25, 1954 in Barstow, California) is an American politician, currently a member of the Los Angeles City Council for District 1, succeeding Ed Reyes after his election on May 21, 2013. Cedillo was a Democratic member of both the California State Assembly and the California State Senate.
Cedillo was a candidate for California's 32nd congressional district seat, vacated by Hilda Solis. A California's 32nd Congressional District Special Election, 2009 was held on May 19, 2009. Cedillo lost the Democratic primary against Board of Equalization Member Judy Chu.
Cedillo grew up in the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles and is a lifelong resident of the 22nd District. His father worked as a mechanic at American Can in Vernon and was a member of the United Steelworkers of America. His mother was a garment worker at Sears and Times-Mirror Press. Cedillo attended Lorena Street and Euclid Avenue Elementary, Stevenson Junior High and Roosevelt High where he met and became close friends with Antonio Villaraigosa, former Mayor of Los Angeles. At Roosevelt, he was varsity quarterback and excelled academically as well, receiving a full academic scholarship to the University of California, Los Angeles.
A city council, town council, town board, or board of aldermen is the legislative body that governs a city, town, municipality or local government area.
Because of the differences in legislation between the States, the exact definition of a City Council varies. However, it is generally only those local government areas which have been specifically granted city status (usually on a basis of population) that are entitled to refer to themselves as cities. The official title is "Corporation of the City of ------" or similar.
Some of the larger urban areas of Australia are governed mostly by a single entity (see Brisbane and other Queensland cities), while others maybe controlled by a multitude of much smaller city councils. Also some significant urban areas can be under the jurisdiction of otherwise rural local governments. Periodic re-alignments of boundaries attempt to rationalize these situations and adjust the deployment of assets and resources.
Local councils in New Zealand do vary in structure, but are overseen by the government department Local Government New Zealand. For many decades until the local government reforms of 1989, a borough with more than 20,000 people could be proclaimed a city. The boundaries of councils tended to follow the edge of the built-up area, so little distinction was made between the urban area and the local government area.

Council member Cedillo appeared disconnected and uninterested at the Los Angeles City Council District One Debate in Glassell Park on February 16, 2017. He took credit for projects he wasn't involved in and lost his temper, shouting at the audience more than once. He even took a phone call while other candidates were speaking. L.A.'s District One deserves better. On March 7th, VOTE Cedillo out of office. #chaleconcedillo
During a September 2016 City Council meeting, when discussion turned to Vision Zero, an initiative aimed at reducing traffic deaths & improving pedestrian safety, Councilmember Gil Cedillo proceeded to rant about pedestrians. His rant occurred a year to the date after Yolanda Lugo, a resident of Highland Park, was killed by a hit and run driver on N. Figueroa Street, just blocks from Cedillo's Highland Park office. She was killed while walking in a crosswalk. 2 months after her death, a teen was also fatally struck while walking in a crosswalk on Figueroa. For Cedillo to rant about pedestrians after the numerous traffic fatalities which have occurred in his district is careless and insensitive. To add insult to injury, Cedillo's Communications Deputy Fredy Ceja was in court months prior...
