Nice & Smooth

Nice & Smooth is an East Coast hip hop duo from New York that consists of Greg Nice (Greg Mays) and Smooth B(Daryl Barnes) and their DJ Teddy Tedd (Tedd Whiting) The duo released four albums between 1989 and 1997. Their first collaborative appearance was on the song, "Skill Trade" on Strange Family Records in 1988. On the strength of that underground single they managed a guest spot on the song "Pimpin Ain't Easy" by Big Daddy Kane on his album, It's a Big Daddy Thing in 1989.

History

Nice & Smooth's biggest radio fame came from "Sometimes I Rhyme Slow...," from the group's second album, Ain't a Damn Thing Changed, released in 1991. The song was a moderately somber rhyme with introspective lines about poverty, AIDS, and drugs that was set to the guitar loop from Tracy Chapman's hit "Fast Car". In the summer of 1992, the music video received heavy rotation on MTV. "Hip-Hop Junkies," which featured a sample from The Partridge Family's "I Think I Love You" was also a hit, and it was once performed live on Keenan Ivory Wayans' comedy/variety TV show, In Living Color. The duo is known for its humorous rhymes and catchy hooks. They often appeared as guest emcees on albums by the Beatnuts, Gang Starr, and Tony Touch among many others. They were represented by Reggie Osse.

Lisette Melendez

Lisette Melendez (born 1967) is an American freestyle/Latin pop/dance-pop singer. She is best known for her 1991 hits "Together Forever", #35 at the Billboard Hot 100 and "A Day In My Life (Without You)". Both songs were such big dance music hits that they are credited as helping renew interest in Freestyle music in the early 90s, which had been fading in popularity due to the rise of mainstream pop music and grunge at the time.

Early life

Melendez was born and raised in East Harlem,New York. Melendez' childhood inspirations include her mother and aunt, who sang in a church choir and community theater. As a teenager she honed her singing voice by emulating Barbra Streisand and Bette Midler. In high school she became a fan of Puerto Rican freestyle music singer Lisa Lisa who had many dance hits. Melendez, also of Puerto Rican descent, was inspired by Lisa Lisa's success.

Career

In 1988 she got her break and sang backing vocals for a track by dance music record producer Carlos Berrios, who had also worked with Sweet Sensation and Samantha Fox. A few years of dance club touring eventually led to the recording of the single "Together Forever" Produced By Carlos Berrios and Platinum Producer Frankie Cutlass, and soon after a full album with Fever/Columbia Records.

Goody Goody

"Goody Goody" is a 1936 popular song composed by Matty Malneck, with lyrics by Johnny Mercer.

Benny Goodman and his Orchestra (with vocalist Helen Ward) recorded the song. Frankie Lymon performed it live on television on several occasions, including in 1957 on The Ted Steele Show. He also had a hit with his recording of the song in the United States, reaching #20 that year, as well as #24 in the UK. It was released as a recording with his group the Teenagers, but was, in fact, a solo recording.

Shelley Winters's character in Curtis Harrington's 1971 thriller What's the Matter with Helen? plays the song at the end of the movie.

The song was performed by 'Wayne & Wanda' in an episode of The Muppet Show.

Chicago recorded the song on its 1995 big band album Night and Day. Their version was arranged and featured lead vocals by Bill Champlin.

A recording by the BBC Dance Orchestra was featured in the film The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep (2007).

Bobby Rydell performs the song in his live shows (Las Vegas, 2015).
