Synopsis

Durgaprasad Chaturvedi has built a community well for the local people's use. After his passing, his son Jamunaprasad administers the well, restricting its use. Jamunaprasad wishes to marry his daughter Radha to Mohan, son of a businessman. But as it turns out, Mohan is not who he claims to be.

Satyam Shivam Sundaram (Hindi: सत्यं शिवम् सुन्दरम् , English: "The Truth, the Good and The Beauty") is a 1978 Bollywood film starring Shashi Kapoor and Zeenat Aman, directed by Raj Kapoor and written by Jainendra Jain. It is a social drama about the differences between physical and spiritual love.

Plot

The story is set in a village where Roopa (Zeenat Aman) lives with her father, the village priest. As a young child, the right side of Roopa's face & neck were burned by a pot of boiling oil, leaving part of her face disfigured. Henceforth, Roopa keeps her right cheek hidden under the cover of her Sari. Despite the terrible accident, Roopa remains religious and goes to the village temple daily, singing hymns and devotional songs.

The protagonist Rajeev (Shashi Kapoor) is a dashing engineer who arrives in the village to oversee the operation of a major dam. He abhors anything that is ugly. He hears Roopa's religious singing and meets her, but somehow doesn't pay attention to her disfigured side, and falls in love with her. He then asks her father permission to marry her.

Satyam Shivam is a 1981 Telugu film directed by K. Raghavendra Rao. The film stars Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Sridevi Kapoor, and Rati Agnihotri. It is a remake of the Hindi hit film Suhaag.

Zeenat Aman

Zeenat Aman (born 1951 in Bombay) is an Indian actress, model and beauty queen best known for her work in Hindi films during the 1970s and 80's. She won the Miss Asia Pacific 1970 title. She is the first South Asian woman to win the title. Upon making her debut in Bollywood, Zeenat Aman, along with Parveen Babi, was credited with making a lasting impact on the image of its leading actresses by introducing the modern look to Hindi cinema. Throughout her career she has been considered a sex symbol.

Early life

Zeenat Aman was born in Mumbai (then called Bombay) in 1951 to Amanullah Khan and Scinda. Her father, Amanullah Khan, was related to the Bhopal State ruling family. He was a script writer who made the script for such movies as Mughal-e-Azam and Pakeezah. Amanullah Khan often wrote under the nom de plume 'Aman' which she later adopted as her second name on screen. He died when Aman was 13. Her mother remarried a German man called Heinz (and was constantly referred to as Mrs. Heinz in all subsequent articles published in film magazines). Aman's mother obtained a German citizenship and took her to Germany where Zeenat Aman stayed temporarily. She returned to India when she turned 18. She is the cousin of actor Raza Murad and niece of actor Murad.

Lata Mangeshkar ( pronunciation ) (born 28 September 1929) is an Indian playback singer, and occasional music-composer. She is one of the best-known and most respected playback singers in India. Mangeshkar's career started in 1942 and has spanned over seven decades. She has recorded songs for over a thousand Hindi films and has sung songs in over thirty-six regional Indian languages and foreign languages, though primarily in Marathi and Hindi. She is the elder sister of singers Asha Bhosle, Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar and Meena Mangeshkar. She is the second vocalist, after M. S. Subbulakshmi, to have ever been awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour. India's highest award in cinema the Dadasaheb Phalke Award was bestowed her in 1989 by the Government of India.
