California lawmakers on Thursday March 31, approved the nation’s highest statewide minimum wage of $15 an hour to take effect by 2022 after it was hailed by Democrats as an example to the nation as it struggles with a growing gap between rich and poor. The legislation now goes to Governor Jerry Brown, who is expected to sign it into law after previously working out the plan with labor unions. The state of New York was considering a similar move. Brown was traveling out of state until Friday evening and wasn’t expected to sign the bill immediately. Democrats who control both legislative chambers in California hailed the increase as a boon to more than 2 million of state’s poorest workers. Republicans, however, echoed fears from business owners and economists that the annual increases – eventually tied to inflation – will compound California’s image as hostile to business. The assembly passed SB3 with a 48 to 26 vote. The Senate followed with a 26 to 12 vote.

Lawmakers and labor unions have struck a tentative deal to raise the statewide minimum wage to $10.50 an hour next year and then gradually to $15, averting a costly political campaign this fall and possibly putting California at the forefront of a national movement.
The deal was confirmed Saturday afternoon by sources close to the negotiations who would speak only on condition of anonymity until Gov. Jerry Brown makes a formal announcement as early as Monday.The minimum wage compromise ends a long debate between the Democratic governor and some of the state's most powerful labor unions. For Brown, it's political pragmatism; numerous statewide polls have suggested voters would approve a minimum wage proposal — perhaps even a more sweeping version — if given the chance.
According to a document obtained by The Times, the negotiated deal would boost California's statewide minimum wage from $10 an hour to $10.50 on Jan. 1, 2017, with a 50-cent increase in 2018 and then $1-per-year increases through 2022. Businesses with fewer than 25 employees would have an extra year to comply, delaying their workers receiving a $15 hourly wage until 2023.

A minimum wage is the lowest hourly, daily or monthly remuneration that employers may legally pay to workers. Equivalently, it is the lowest wage at which workers may sell their labor. Although minimum wage laws are in effect in many jurisdictions, differences of opinion exist about the benefits and drawbacks of a minimum wage.
Supporters of the minimum wage say that it increases the standard of living of workers, reduces poverty, and forces businesses to be more efficient. Opponents say that if it is high enough to be effective, it increases unemployment, particularly among workers with very low productivity due to inexperience or handicap, thereby harming less skilled workers and possibly excluding some groups from the labor market; additionally it is less effective and more damaging to businesses than other methods of reducing poverty.
The minimum wage has a strong social appeal, rooted in concern about the ability of markets to provide income equity for the least able members of the work force. For some people, the obvious solution to this concern is to redefine the wage structure politically to achieve a socially preferable distribution of income. Thus, minimum wage laws have usually been judged against the criterion of reducing poverty.

California lawmakers on Thursday March 31, approved the nation’s highest statewide minimum wage of $15 an hour to take effect by 2022 after it was hailed by Democrats as an example to the nation as it struggles with a growing gap between rich and poor. The legislation now goes to Governor Jerry Brown, who is expected to sign it into law after previously working out the plan with labor unions. The state of New York was considering a similar move. (Sacramento) -- During the floor debate over Assembly Bill 10 to raise California's minimum wage Assemblymember Jimmy Gomez (D-Northeast Los Angeles) rose to speak in support of the measured authored by Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas). AB 10 will raise California's minimum wage from $8.00 per hour to $9.00 per hour as of July 1, 2014, then to $10.00 as of January 1, 2016, if, as expected, Governor Jerry Brown signs the measure. Assemblymember Gomez told his fellow lawmakers the issue is personal to him because his parents both worked multiple minimum wage jobs to make ends meet. Minimum Wage Legislation Approved by State Assembly
(Sacramento) - Assembly Bill 10 by Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas) to raise California's minimum wage has passed the State Assembly. The bill will now head to the State Senate for consideration. "AB 10 is about equity," says Assemblymember Alejo. "It provides modest increases over time and implements a cost of living adjustment 5 years from now to help ensure equity for minimum wage workers in the long-term." Specifically under AB 10, in 2014 the hourly minimum wage will increase 25 cents per hour to $8.25. In 2015, the minimum wage will increase to $8.75. In 2016, the minimum wage will increase to $9.25. Lawmakers and labor unions have struck a tentative deal to raise the statewide minimum wage to $10.50 an hour next year and then gradually to $15, averting a costly political campaign this fall and possibly putting California at the forefront of a national movement.
The deal was confirmed Saturday afternoon by sources close to the negotiations who would speak only on condition of anonymity until Gov. Jerry Brown makes a formal announcement as early as Monday.The minimum wage compromise ends a long debate between the Democratic governor and some of the state's most powerful labor unions. For Brown, it's political pragmatism; numerous statewide polls have suggested voters would approve a minimum wage proposal — perhaps even a more sweeping version — if given the chance.
According to a document obtained by The Times, the negotiated deal would boost California's statewide minimum wage from $10 an hour to $10.50 on Jan. 1, 2017, with a 50-cent increase in 2018 and then $1-per-year increases through 2022. Businesses with fewer than 25 employees would have an extra year to comply, delaying their workers receiving a $15 hourly wage until 2023.

The Mormons who came to this region during their search for the ‘Promised Land’ gave the Joshua Tree its name as it reminded them of the holy prophet of the same name. Las Vegas appears like a mirage in the desert, awake night and day, THE entertainment capital of the world! Guarded by a sphinx that stretches its paws out toward the Strip, a pyramid looms above the desert paradise, the Luxor Hotel, one of many theme hotels in this incredible city. The MGM lion guards one of the largest hotels in the world with over five thousand rooms, whereas the Bellagio is a return to the exclusive nature of the casino hotels of the past: here, luxury is at its zenith - an investment of 1,8 billion dollars speaks for itself! Only two and a half hours by car to the west of Las Vegas is the USA’s most recent national park that extends to the opposite side of California’s border, Death Valley! It was through here that thousands of pioneers took a short cut while journeying west, many of them perishing in the attempt. The Yosemite National Park is a near-impenetrable landscape full of huge granite mountains over the steep slopes of which torrents of roaring water plunge a thousand metres into the valleys of the last Ice Age. Los Angeles is synonymous with Hollywood, and Beverly Hills, a perfect product of the American Dream, is its famous suburb with neat parks and blossoming flower beds. There’s also the Sidewalk Of Fame, Mann’s Chinese Theatre and Rodeo Drive, the most exclusive shopping mile in the world. Hi guys, I'm Veronica Hill with California Travel Tips. If you're a subscriber to this channel, you're either planning a trip to California, or you're a resident looking for new places to check out. Today I'm going to share some of my Top 10 travel tips for visiting California like a local.
Tip No. 1: Book California State Park campgrounds exactly 7 months before you want to visit on http://www.ReserveAmerica.com. If you're hoping to score a busy holiday like the Fourth of July, reserve a few dates in the end of June, then add a few days to your visit. Securing a campground in Yosemite is also tricky. You'll need to log into http://www.Recreation.gov a few minutes before 7 a.m. on the 15th of the month — five months in advance of your visit. Popular campgrounds in the valley sell out in seconds! For example, if you want to book a stay between June 15 and July 14, you need to book on February 15.
Tip No. 2: If you're going to Disneyland, take advantage of the FastPass service. Just insert your park ticket into the kiosk for a designated FastPass ride and you'll receive a ticket allowing you to return later and cut the line. I've found it's handy to have one person gather all of your tickets to get the Fast Pass while you wait in line for another attraction. If you have kids too small to ride an attraction, the Baby Switch Pass is another good bet. Just ask a cast member for the pass at the entrance. Make sure you ride the most popular attractions right when the park opens. Knott's has a similar service called FastLane, but you have to pay for it.
Tip No. 3: Avoid traveling in the summer if you can. Most of the amusement parks are packed to capacity, with long lines and hot waits in the sun. The fall and winter sees much fewer crowds, and the hotels are cheaper too.
Tip No. 4: Get on the Groupon list for each city you are visiting. You'll be able to get discounts on some really cool attractions and restaurants you may not have considered before. If you want great hotel rates, check out sites like Priceline or Hotel Tonight for last-minute lodging.
Tip No. 5: If you plan on visiting several theme parks or attractions, look into the Go Card or City Pass. They offer discounts on many of the most popular sights in LA, San Diego and San Francisco. If you're a Costco member, many warehouses sell discount tickets to theme parks, restaurants and sporting events.
Tip. No. 6: If there's an expensive restaurant you want to try, go during happy hour. Often you'll get to sample their best dishes and drinks at half the price.
Tip No. 7: Families should plan their San Diego vacations in October, when the city hosts its Kids Free month. Many of the area's most popular attractions, including San Diego Zoo, the Wild Animal Park and Balboa Park are free for kids 12 and under.
Tip No. 8: If your favorite hotel or campground is booked, try again seven days in advance. This is when many people cancel their reservations to avoid penalties.
Tip No. 9: If you're heading to more than one of the seven California national parks, consider getting the annual pass for $80. Admission is free for all the parks in April during National Parks Week, and in November during Veterans Day weekend.
Tip No. 10: For the best fares, book your trip midweek for flights departing and arriving on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. The cheapest rates can often be found online between 10 p.m. Wednesdays and 6 a.m. Thursdays around the 7th of each month. Additionally, the cheapest fares are found 7, 14 and 21 days before you leave.

Explore San Diego’s ties to the sea by touring the U.S.S. Midway, Navy Pier, and Maritime Museum. From there, it’s just a skip across the bay to Coronado, where you can lay out in the sun and soak up some rays in a quiet beach town.
Round out your day with a trip to “the jewel,” better known as La Jolla, and indulge in some of the best seafood and Mexican food you’ll find anywhere. Don’t forget to say “Hi” to the sea lions.

Located on Beach Boulevard — just about 7 miles west of Disneyland — Knott's Berry Farm grew from its humble beginnings as a roadside berry stand into 160 acres of thrill rides and Old West adventures.
The theme park was built to entertain guests who were waiting for Mrs. Knott's Famous Fried Chicken. Since 1934, more than 20 million meals have been served at the Knott's Berry Farm restaurant.
There are 41 Knott's Berry Farm rides to choose from, including 9 different roller coasters. Brave the 75-degree descent on Perilous Plunge — the world's tallest and steepest water coaster — or spiral at 55 miles per hour on Silver Bullet — the longest inverted roller coaster on the West coast. On Xcelerator, you'll launch from 0 -- 82 mph in 2.3 seconds!
There are nine different lands in the park, each with its own unique theme. On a busy day, consider the Knott's Berry Farm Fast Lane upgrade, which allows you to bypass the regular lines on 10 popular Knott's Berry Farm attractions.
Go head over heels on Riptide, brave six inversions on Boomerang, or accelerate from 0-38 in the Pony Express moto-coaster.
In Fiesta Village, you can rotate 360 degrees on La Revolucion, swing 25 stories above the ground on Wind Seeker, or go from 0-55 in seven seconds on the thrilling Montezuma's Revenge. Jaguar is an Aztec-inspired steel coaster that's perfect for families.
For Knott's Berry Farm discounts, come after 4 p.m. You can get Knott's Berry Farm coupons from services like CityPass and the Entertainment book, and from Costco. Admission is free with the 45-minute shopping pass.
On The Boardwalk, you can try your hand at several carnival-style games, including Barnyard Basketball. Kids ages 3-5 will enjoy Camp Snoopy, which has 14 Peanuts-related attractions, ranging from Lucy's Tugboat to the Red Baron.
During the heat of summer, head to Wild Water Wilderness. You can cool off with a whitewater adventure on Bigfoot Rapids, or hop aboard the Timber Mountain Log Ride for splash-filled journey through 2,100 feet of rivers and waterfalls.
Don't miss the West Coast's longest wooden coaster, Ghost Rider, followed by a rickety adventure aboard the Calico Mine Train.
The Knott's Berry Farm Ghost Town was created from real Old West buildings in 1940. The attraction was inspired by Walt's childhood working in the Mojave Desert's real Calico silver mines, which he purchased in 1951.
Highlights include the 1868 Old Trails Hotel from Prescott, Death Valley's Old Betsy Borax Train, and an 1870s school house. You'll find several more Ghost Town artifacts inside the Western Trails Museum.
Old West touches abound, from the 1948 Bottle House, to the working blacksmith shop. Be sure to pop in to Goldie's Place before visiting the Town Jail, where Sad-Eye Joe has been entertaining visitors since 1940.
When you're passing through Ghost Town, be sure to pick up one of their famous funnel cakes. The boysenberry topping is a signature item, and one Knott's funnel cake will easily feed a family of four.
Be sure to hitch a ride on the Butterfield Stagecoach, then grab a sarsaparilla and enjoy the show at Calico Saloon. In the 1950s, actor Steve Martin started his banjo career here in the Bird Cage Theater at Calico Square.
The area is still a showcase for live entertainment, including Native American dancing and crafts.
Just don't leave without riding the historic Calico Railroad. This 1881 steam locomotive, purchased from the Denver and Rio Grande, was America's last operating narrow-gauge train.
Knott's Berry Farm discounts are available to AAA members, or you can take advantage of their Twilight Tickets after 4 p.m. We suggest getting the season pass. For roughly $18 more, you can go for the entire year!

In this Disneyland video, we'll take you on a tour of the Disneyland Resort and share some of our favorite Disneyland tips with you.
Try to buy your Disneyland tickets online so you don't have to hassle with the lines when you arrive. If you're staying in one of the Disneyland hotels, you can enjoy Magic Mornings, which allows early access into the park.
If you live in Southern California, it's worth your while to buy the Disneyland annual pass instead of a Disneyland ticket. It pays for itself after only three visits.
Disneyland Park is home to eight different lands spread across 85 acres. You can pick up a Disneyland map when you pass through the gates.
Be sure to check out the most popular Disneyland rides first, as they usually have the longest lines. Always try to use the Disneyland Fastpass service.
At the guest information board, you can find out about Disneyland character appearances, or the next Disneyland parade showtimes. Disneyland hours are extended during the summer until around midnight. Check their Web site for the daily schedule.

If you want a good spot to see the Disneyland Fireworks, grab a seat in front of the Disneyland Castle a few hours before showtime.

In this Disneyland video, we'll take you on a tour of the Disneyland Resort and share some of our favorite Disneyland tips with you.
Try to buy your Disneyland tickets online so you don't have to hassle with the lines when you arrive. If you're staying in one of the Disneyland hotels, you can enjoy Magic Mornings, which allows early access into the park.
If you live in Southern California, it's worth your while to buy the Disneyland annual pass instead of a Disneyland ticket. It pays for itself after only three visits.
Disneyland Park is home to eight different lands spread across 85 acres. You can pick up a Disneyland map when you pass through the gates.
Be sure to check out the most popular Disneyland rides first, as they usually have the longest lines. Always try to use the Disneyland Fastpass service.
At the guest information board, you can find out about Disneyland character appearances, or the next Disneyland parade showtimes. Disneyland hours are extended during the summer until around midnight. Check their Web site for the daily schedule.

Many Disneyland restaurants cater to special dietary needs, whether you're vegan, kosher or gluten free. Call ahead to Disneyland dining and they'll be happy to help you out. Most restaurants at Disneyland offer discounts to passholders.
If you want a good spot to see the Disneyland Fireworks, grab a seat in front of the Disneyland Castle a few hours before showtime.

Number 7: Architectural heritage. A favorite activity for visitors to San Francisco is enjoying the architecture of local houses. These houses can even be found on many city postcards.
Number 6: Palace of Fine Arts. Built in 1915 for the Panama Pacific International Exposition, this remarkable structure is a cherished San Francisco landmark.
Number 5: Golden Gate Park, a great urban park. It's an oasis that offers an escape from the city. The large park has beautiful landscape design with well-maintained gardens.
Number 4: Coit Tower. Gracing the landscape of San Francisco, the art deco tower was constructed to beautify the city. The observation tower at the top offers excellent city views.

A spokeswoman for the mayor, Maggie Crane, on Tuesday confirmed the Democratic mayor wants to see the city’s minimum raised.
“Mayor Slay is committed to raising the issue with the Board of Aldermen this summer,” Mary Ellen Ponder, Slay’s chief of staff, told the St Louis Post-Dispatch. “He believes, and he thinks most residents agree, that a higher minimum wage would be a good thing.”
Details of the bill are still being ironed out. The formal bill is to be filed at the city’s board of aldermen on Friday, according to Alderman Shane Cohn, a Democrat who is sponsoring the bill.
Time is of the essence for St Louis and other Missouri cities that want to implement a different minimum wage from the state. Last month, Missouri passed a bill prohibiting cities from adopting local policies, including a local minimum wage. Only cities with a different minimum wage in place before 28 August would be exempt.
“The Show-Me state just showed that real, life-changing victories are possible when we stick together. By standing up and speaking out, we are on the verge of making St Louis the first city in America’s heartland to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour,” said Bettie Douglas, 51, a member of St Louis’s Fight for $15 chapter, Show Me $15.
If St Louis passes the $15 minimum wage, it would join cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle in leading the way for a higher minimum wage. Local governments have taken the spotlight on the issue, as Democratic lawmakers in Washington have struggled to garner support for their attempts to increase the federal minimum wage, which has been stuck at $7.25 since June 2009. Their most recent proposal would see the minimum wage raised to $12 an hour by 2020.
America’s low-wage workers, however, are aiming higher and are not giving up their fight for $15 an hour.
