Rover was a British automotive marque used between 1904 and 2005. It was launched as a motorcycle company called the Rover Company in 1878, before manufacturing cars in 1904. The brand used the iconic viking longship as its logo.
Despite a state-controlled absorption by the Leyland Motor Corporation (LMC) in 1967 and subsequent mergers, nationalisation and de-mergers, the Rover marque retained its identity first as an independent subsidiary division of LMC, and then through variously named groups of British Leyland through the 1970s and into the 1980s.
The Rover marque became the primary brand of the then newly renamed Rover Group in 1988 as it passed first through the hands of British Aerospace and then into the ownership of BMW Group. Technological know-how gained from Honda and financial investment during the BMW ownership led to a revival of the Rover marque during the 1990s in its core midsize segment.
In 2000, BMW sold the Rover and related MG car activities of the Rover Group to the Phoenix Consortium, who established the MG Rover Group at Longbridge. BMW retained ownership of the Rover marque, allowing MG Rover to use it under licence. In April 2005, Rover branded cars ceased to be produced when the MG Rover Group became insolvent.

The word "brand" is derived from the Old Norse brandr meaning "to burn." It refers to the practice of producers burning their mark (or brand) onto their products.
The Italians were among the first to use brands, in the form of watermarks on paper in the 1200s.
Although connected with the history of trademarks and including earlier examples which could be deemed "protobrands" (such as the marketing puns of the "Vesuvinum" wine jars found at Pompeii), brands in the field of mass-marketing originated in the 19th century with the advent of packaged goods. Industrialization moved the production of many household items, such as soap, from local communities to centralized factories. When shipping their items, the factories would literally brand their logo or insignia on the barrels used, extending the meaning of "brand" to that of trademark.

The engine in my car is less than three years old (yes, the first one broke before the car was even 12 months old and Land Rover had to replace it). But when I start my car each day, the engine pours out smoke - just like in this video. Land Rover tell me this is "representative of the marque", and they can't do anything else to fix (despite trying repeatedly for five months). I am NOT a happy Land Rover customer. #NotGoodEnough -

Land Rover has told me in writing, after much investigation at Harwoods Croydon, that there is nothing wrong with my Discovery 4 HSE. Despite the fact it is less than four years old, and its engine (already a replacement), spews out smoke like this upon ignition (and no revs). Land Rover say this is "representative of the marque" and "no further action will be taken". Happy Land Rover customer? No I'm not!

BMC was the largest British car company of its day, with (in 1952) 39% of British output, producing a wide range of cars under brand names including Austin, Morris, MG, Austin-Healey, Riley, and Wolseley, as well as commercial vehicles and agricultural tractors. The first chairman was Lord Nuffield (William Morris), but he was replaced at the end of 1952 by Austin's Leonard Lord, who continued in that role until his 65th birthday in 1961, but handing over, in theory at least, the managing director responsibilities to his deputy George Harriman in 1956.

Land Rover has told me in writing, after much investigation at Harwoods Croydon, that there is nothing wrong with my Discovery 4 HSE. Despite the fact it is less than four years old, and its engine (already a replacement), spews out smoke like this upon ignition (and no revs).
Land Rover say this is "representative of the marque" and "no further action will be taken".

The Land Rover name was originally used by the Rover Company for one specific vehicle model, named simply the Land Rover, launched by Rover in 1948. Over the following years it developed into a marque encompassing a range of four-wheel-drive models, including the Defender, Discovery, Freelander, Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover Evoque. Land Rovers are currently assembled in the company's Halewood and Solihull plants, with research and development taking place at JLR's Gaydon and Whitley engineering centers. Land Rover sold 194,000 vehicles worldwide in 2009.
The early vehicles, such as the Series I, were field-tested at Long Bennington and designed to be field-serviced; advertisements for Rovers cite vehicles driven thousands of miles on banana oil. Now with more complex service requirements this is less of an option. The British Army maintains the use of the mechanically simple 2.5-liter four-cylinder 300TDi-engined versions rather than the electronically controlled 2.5-liter five-cylinder TD5 to retain some servicing simplicity. This engine also continued in use in some export markets using units built at a Ford plant in Brazil, where Land Rovers were built under license and the engine was also used in Ford pick-up trucks built locally. Production of the TDi engine ended in the United Kingdom in 2006, meaning that Land Rover no longer offers it as an option. International Motors of Brazil offer an engine called the 2.8 TGV Power Torque, which is essentially a 2.8-liter version of the 300TDi, with a corresponding increase in power and torque.

This is the first time that the Aachen specialists have had a Range Rover in the workshop for a complete facelift. AC Schnitzer has been tuning some models from the Land Rover marque since 2002, but until now has only offered performance kits. Tuning fans amongst Range Rover drivers can now rejoice at this world premiere.
One goal of Aachen-based tuning expert AC Schnitzer was to expand the limits of the Range Rover Sport. This has been achieved amongst others by more diesel thrust for higher acceleration and perceptibly more torque. The Range Rover Sport by AC Schnitzer with performance kit has been upgraded from 215 kW / 292 hp / 600 Nm to a stunning 250 kW / 340 hp / 720 Nm.
Despite the extra power, the CO2 emissions of the Range Rover remain constant; i.e. the CO2 emissions per hp have fallen. That's "Efficient Performance by AC Schnitzer". The exhaust gas flow of the Range Rover Sport is improved by the fitting of the AC Schnitzer twin silencer of stainless steel, with two "Sports Trim" tailpipes or with four "Sport" tailpipes (both in right/left combination). Visually too, the exhaust system is a striking highlight.
The all-wheel drive vehicle becomes more agile and responsive thanks to the AC Schnitzer lowering module, which lowers the Range Rover Sport by up 30 or 35 mm. A powerful, sporting presence with a striking silhouette is achieved by aerodynamic elements such as the AC Schnitzer front and rear skirts with integrated rear diffuser.
In the cockpit, drivers find the AC Schnitzer keyholder and velours footmats in sophisticated design.
The Range Rover Sport by AC Schnitzer will run on Type VIII forged racing rims in 10.0J x 22 inch, or 10.5J x 23 inch, and of course corresponding tyres (275/40 R 22 or 305/30 R

At the 84th Geneva Motor Show from 6th to 16th March 2014, AC Schnitzer is presenting the Range Rover Sport 3.0L SD V6 Diesel with an extensive range of technical and aesthetic tuning products.
This is the first time that the Aachen specialists have had a Range Rover in the workshop for a complete facelift. AC Schnitzer has been tuning some models from the Land Rover marque since 2002, but until now has only offered performance kits. Tuning fans amongst Range Rover drivers can now rejoice at this world premiere.
One goal of Aachen-based tuning expert AC Schnitzer was to expand the limits of the Range Rover Sport. This has been achieved amongst others by more diesel thrust for higher acceleration and perceptibly more torque. The Range Rover Sport by AC Schnitzer with performance kit has been upgraded from 215 kW / 292 hp / 600 Nm to a stunning 250 kW / 340 hp / 720 Nm.
Despite the extra power, the CO2 emissions of the Range Rover remain constant; i.e. the CO2 emissions per hp have fallen. That's "Efficient Performance by AC Schnitzer". The exhaust gas flow of the Range Rover Sport is improved by the fitting of the AC Schnitzer twin silencer of stainless steel, with two "Sports Trim" tailpipes or with four "Sport" tailpipes (both in right/left combination). Visually too, the exhaust system is a striking highlight.
The all-wheel drive vehicle becomes more agile and responsive thanks to the AC Schnitzer lowering module, which lowers the Range Rover Sport by up 30 or 35 mm. A powerful, sporting presence with a striking silhouette is achieved by aerodynamic elements such as the AC Schnitzer front and rear skirts with integrated rear diffuser.
In the cockpit, drivers find the AC Schnitzer keyholder and velours footmats in sophisticated design.
The Range Rover Sport by AC Schnitzer will run on Type VIII forged racing rims in 10.0J x 22 inch, or 10.5J x 23 inch, and of course corresponding tyres (275/40 R 22 or 305/30 R
23 all round) for the world premiere in Geneva.

Within these was a series of variations, including an estate car, a pick-up truck, a van and the Mini Moke – a jeep-like buggy.
The sporty versions, Mini Cooper and Cooper "S," were were successful as rally cars, winning the Monte Carlo Rally three times from 1964 through to 1967. In 1966 the Mini was disqualified after the finish, under a controversial ruling that the cars had an illegal combination of headlamps and spotlights.[14]
On itroduction in August 1959 the Mini was marketed under the Austin and Morris names, as the Austin Seven and Morris Mini-Minor.[15] The Austin Seven was renamed to Austin Mini in January 1962 [15] and Mini became a marque in its own right in 1969.[16][17] In 1980 it once again became the Austin Mini and in 1988 the Rover Mini.[18]
Mini (marque) (styled as MINI) is a British automotive marque owned by BMW specializing in small cars resembling the original Mini. BMW acquired Rover Group (formerly British Leyland) in 1994, and sold most of it in 2000, but retained the rights to build cars using the MINI name.
