Autocar is a weekly British automobile magazine published by Haymarket Motoring Publications Ltd. It was first published in 1895 and refers to itself as "The World's oldest car magazine". There are now several international editions including China, India, New Zealand and South Africa.
The publication was launched as The Autocar by Iliffe and Sons Ltd "in the interests of the mechanically propelled road carriage" on 2 November 1895 when, it is believed, there were only six or seven cars in the United Kingdom. In his book Drive On!L. J. K. Setright suggests that the magazine was set up by Henry Sturmey as an organ of propaganda for Harry J. Lawson, founder of the Daimler Company and a journalist on the magazine in its early days. Henry Sturmey stood down as editor of The Autocar magazine and left the company in 1901.
Autocar claims to have invented the road test in 1928 when it analysed the Austin 7 Gordon England Sunshine Saloon. Autocar has been published weekly throughout its life with only strikes in the 1970s interrupting its frequency. In 1988, it absorbed its long-time rival The Motor magazine, founded by Temple Press Ltd on 28 January 1903, briefly calling itself Autocar & Motor afterwards, before reverting to Autocar. The magazine has scored many firsts in its history including the first full road tests and independent performance tests of the Jaguar XJ220, McLaren F1, and the Porsche 911 GT1. It was also the first magazine to produce independently recorded performance figures for the Bugatti Veyron, which were published in the 31 May 2006 issue.

We've waited long enough for Honda to release a new NSX. When the original NSX was launched, it was more thrilling than most of its rivals on both road and track. Subscribe to Autocar now: http://smarturl.it/autocar Not only was one of the most engaging cars to drive, it set new standards for daily usability among supercars. Can the new NSX - after an absence from the market of a decade - pick up where its predecessor left off? Today, the new NSX has a 3.5-litre, twin-turbocharged V6 in its middle, augmented by an electric motor, while a pair of electric motors at the front make it four wheel drive, increasing traction and, Honda says, aiding the handling balance. We find out if that gives it enough speed and poise to outdo rivals like the Audi R8, Ferrari 488 GTB and Porsche 911 Turbo....
The supercar-slaying Nissan GT-R – ‘Godzilla’ to its friends – has just been given the biggest and most transformative facelift this generation car has had. Subscribe now to Autocar on YouTube: http://smarturl.it/autocar Most obvious is a new interior, with seats, dashboard and infotainment system to push it more upmarket - and into line with supercars like the Audi R8 V10 plus and Porsche 911 Turbo S. Less obvious - but more significant to the likes of you and us - are the structural improvements, a 20bhp boost, revised ignition, transmission and exhaust systems. You get the idea. The obvious question is then, how much faster is it? Well, here's the trick, for a car that is all about the stats (to those who adore it) Nissan have quietly sidelined announcing performance figures for ...
With a bargain price tag and supercar performance, the Corvette C7 Stingray has rebooted the iconic American sports car. But can it compete with Europe's best: the Audi R8, Porsche 911 and Jaguar F-type? SUBSCRIBE to Autocar: http://smarturl.it/autocar The seventh-generation Chevrolet Corvette. It marks the return of the Stingray; in name, at least. It certainly looks good on paper: all-new styling, chassis, cabin and - most importantly - the new LT1 V8 engine. But how does it fare against the best that Europe can offer? Can it out-accelerate and out-brake a Porsche 911? Does it sound better than a Jaguar F-type? Can it out-handle an Audi R8? The Aston Martin DB11 has some pretty big shoes to fill. Its predecessor, the DB9, bowed out as a much loved British grand tourer that had been the base and inspiration for a whole host of Aston Martin models. Subscribe to Autocar now: http://smarturl.it/autocar Then there's the DB11's new V12 engine: it's turbocharged. As demonstrated by the Porsche 718 Cayman and Boxster, turbocharging can improve a car while also taking away some character. Will this boosted 12-cylinder unit feel like an Aston Martin engine?
