The Enemy of Melancholy — Bishop Barron’s Sunday Sermon
Friends, we must develop a theology and spirituality of work. Meaningful labor awakens our desire to collaborate in God’s creativity. Viewing work in this way—as spiritual and moral action—conquers our melancholy, gives us dignity, and brings us into unity with the purposes of the Lord.

The Vatican vs. Build-a-Bear
If you're outraged by Build-a-Bear's actions in this fictional scenario but defend what the Catholic Church has done for decades, then you're a hypocrite with no sense of right and wrong and have no business lecturing atheists on morality.
People who claim divine moral authority should be held to a higher standard, not a lower one. Why is there a double standard? Why does the Catholic Church get a pass? If it was a Build-a-Bear scandal, people would burn the company to the ground.

You Must Rethink Your Spiritual Life — Bishop Barron’s Sunday Sermon
Friends, there’s a great temptation for us to turn the Lord into a distant spiritual entity or a difficult moral taskmaster. We incorrectly believe that we have to crawl our way to the divine by our own heroism, merit, and effort. But this is not the case. In actuality, God, in his wisdom, hastens to make himself known. He reveals himself to us, even before we’ve begun to see. In fact, our seeking is predicated upon the fact that we’ve already been found. To understand this is to understand the Bible as the story of God’s quest for us.

Friends, there’s a great temptation for us to turn the Lord into a distant spiritual entity or a difficult moral taskmaster. Proverbs 10:12, Hatred stirreth up strife; but love covereth all sins and Psalms 103:12 states, as far as the east is from the west, so far has God removed our transgressions from us.
"Maintaining a strong, loving family takes work. After one's relationship with God, the family relationship is top priority. The family is the source of self-worth, love, satisfaction, and meaning. Families are blessed by God. The husband and wife are joined by God, and the children are products of that love. God created the family and meant it to contain the strongest relationships.
Dear God in Heaven, I lift up Pastor Creflo Dollar, his daughter and the Dollar family before you. I pray that this private incident between a father and his daughter will be dealt with privately. I ask that you quite the nay-sayers and allow all those that point fingers to think of how they would like for the public to react if this private incident occurred in their homes.
Gracious God, your word says that we should be angry but sin not. We all know that sometimes it's hard to experience anger and also control the feelings and actions from anger, but it is something that we all must do. Merciful God, I ask you to restore this relationship with Pastor Dollar and his daughter as it was before this minor family incident even happens.
Restore their relationship as at the first according to your word. I pray that your love would abound in this relationship and that both of them would listen to your voice before they respond to each other. Lord, I ask you to overturn all that Satan has meant for evil in the destruction of this relationship. Thank you that the Bible tells us that you work everything together for good with those who love Christ Jesus and who are called according to his purpose. Please work through Pastor Dollar and his daughter to heal their relationship and help his daughter to understand the role of a parent as admonished by you.
Father, only you know their heart inside and out. During this time of family healing and restoration allow the love and respect from his daughter to her father to be remembered and become a stronger bond that nothing or no-one will be able to tear it down. Allow her to remember all the years of guidance, favor, love, compassion, security, forgiveness and respect she has been shown from her father. Allow Pastor Dollars daughter to remember that her parents are responsible for her well being, safety and preparing her to be a responsible, mature adult to face a cruel world that awaits her as she enters the world on her own in the next few years. Remove any pride that she may have and allow the anger to subside and for her love for her father to over-ride any wrong doing and let her love cover a multitude of sin.
Oh God, allow the love and respect from a father to his daughter to always be on his mind as he disciplines her. As a parent he will always love his child as it is a never-ending love and a love that nothing and no-one will be able to tear it down. Help Pastor Dollar to remember her from a baby up to now and remember all the good that they've invested in this relationship. Allow Pastor Dollar to continue to bring up his children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord and to always allow cooler heads to prevail in every situation. Nothing is too hard for you Precious Lord. Lord, help him to search his own heart to acknowledge if he's done anything to cause this relationship to escalate, then shine your light of truth into his heart and reveal it to him. Help him to approach his daughter in the spirit of reconciliation and restoration. I ask that you cut out any bitterness or animosity in their hearts about this relationship. The book of Hebrews tells us that a root of bitterness, if left, can fester and cause many difficulties in the days ahead. I ask that you would remove the smallest strain of bitterness so that their relationship can be restored and healed. Remove any pride that he may have and allow the anger to subside and for his love for his daughter to over-ride any wrong doing and let his love cover a multitude of sins.
Thank you for loving them enough to move in their relationship for your glory and allow it to be a testimony to many parents that are going through the same incidents with their children.
In Jesus Name I Pray,
Amen

"Arthur B. Carles: Philadelphia Artist"
Available on: vimeo.com/ondemand/arthurbcarles
Born the son of a lower middle class watchmaker in Philadelphia, Arthur Beecher Carles (1882-1952) soon numbered among his friends collector Alfred Barnes, Alfred Stieglitz, John Marin, and Gertrude Stein in Paris. His courage, intelligence and artistic virtuosity opened the stifling doors of academia to the exotic flood of French Impressionism.
Poetry readings occur throughout the film by Carles’ contemporaries Wallace Stevens, Ezra Pound, Gertrude Stein, and William Carlos Williams. Archival photographs, film clips and footage of locations important to Carles’ life provide the backdrop for readings from Carles’ letters.
Philadelphia composer Eric Sessler’s original and witty music enhances this exploration of Arthur Carles’ brilliant canvases as they explode on the television screen, electrifying, emotional and gorgeous in their Abstract Expressionist glory.

SUMMARY
=======
Hypatia (born c. 350–370; died 415 AD) was a Hellenistic Neoplatonist philosopher, astronomer, and mathematician, who lived in Alexandria, Egypt, then part of the Eastern Roman Empire. She was a prominent thinker of the Neoplatonic school in Alexandria where she taught philosophy and astronomy. She is the first female mathematician whose life is reasonably well recorded. Hypatia was renowned in her own lifetime as a great teacher and a wise counselor. She is known to have written a commentary on Diophantus's thirteen-volume Arithmetica, which may survive in part, having been interpolated into Diophantus's original text, and another commentary on Apollonius of Perga's treatise on conic sections, which has not survived. Many modern scholars also believe that Hypatia may have edited the surviving text of Ptolemy's Almagest, based on the title of her father Theon's commentary on Book III of the Almagest.
Hypatia is known to have constructed astrolabes and hydrometers, but did not invent either of these, which were both in use long before she was born. Although she herself was a pagan, she was tolerant towards Christians and taught many Christian students, including Synesius, the future bishop of Ptolemais. Ancient sources record that Hypatia was widely beloved by pagans and Christians alike and that she established great influence with the political elite in Alexandria. Towards the end of her life, Hypatia advised Orestes, the Roman prefect of Alexandria, who was in the midst of a political feud with Cyril, the bishop of Alexandria. Rumors spread accusing her of preventing Orestes from reconciling with Cyril and, in March 415 AD, she was murdered by a mob of Christians led by a lector named Peter.Hypatia's murder shocked the empire and transformed her into a "martyr for philosophy", leading future Neoplatonists such as Damascius to become increasingly fervent in their opposition to Christianity. During the Middle Ages, Hypatia was co-opted as a symbol of Christian virtue and scholars believe she was part of the basis for the legend of Saint Catherine of Alexandria. During the Age of Enlightenment, she became a symbol of opposition to Catholicism. In the nineteenth century, European literature, especially Charles Kingsley's 1853 novel Hypatia, romanticized her as "the last of the Hellenes". In the twentieth century, Hypatia became seen as an icon for women's rights and a precursor to the feminist movement. Since the late twentieth century, some portrayals have associated Hypatia's death with the destruction of the Library of Alexandria, despite the historical fact that the library no longer existed during Hypatia's lifetime.

SUMMARY
=======
