Ann Magnuson (born January 4, 1956) is an American actress, performance artist and nightclub performer. A founder member of the band Bongwater, she starred in the ABC sitcom Anything but Love (1989–92). Her film appearances include The Hunger (1983), Making Mr. Right (1987), Clear and Present Danger (1994) and Panic Room (2002). The New York Times described her as "An endearing theatrical chameleon who has as many characters at her fingertips as Lily Tomlin does".
Magnuson was born in Charleston, West Virginia to a journalist mother and a lawyer father. She had a brother, Bobby, who died in 1988 of complications from AIDS. She attended Holz Elementary and George Washington High School in Charleston. After graduating from Denison University in 1978, she moved to New York City, New York and was a DJ and performer at Club 57 and the Mudd Club in Manhattan circa 1979 through the early 1980s, while pursuing a performance career on varied fronts. She created such characters as "Anoushka", a Soviet lounge singer, wearing a wig backwards and singing mock-Russian lyrics to pop music standards, and separately sang in an all-girl percussion group, Pulsallama, whose 1982 single "The Devil Lives In My Husband's Body" was a housewife's lament of a spouse who appears to be possessed. Later, in the 1990s, Magnuson fronted the satirical faux-heavy metal band Vulcan Death Grip.

Bongwater was a psych rock band formed in 1985 and dissolved in 1992. The group was founded by Ann Magnuson and Mark Kramer (who was also the founder of the Shimmy Disc record label), who had worked together previously in Pulsallama. The group also featured drummer David Licht and guitarists Dave Rick and later Randolph A. Hudson III. Guests included Fred Frith, Peter Stampfel and Fred Schneider

In promotion of her fantastic "The Luv Show" CD (and in anticipation of her much later release, "Pretty Songs"), Ann Magnuson wowed the crowds at two live shows at Luna Park. Along with her own songs and a few other covers, she included this Kate Bush gem as one of the "pretty songs"... Sadly, this was only 1997 or so...so this is recorded on a tape recorder and sounds a bit muddy. No matter. It's still worth a listen. Enjoy.

This was originally filmed as an opener for a Redd Kross live show. All of the band members have a little feature in it, and how 'bout Ann Magnuson!, what a little devil she is. Directed by David J. Markey this is classic "we got power films" piece. Dave and I have digitally restored his entire catalog including a still, yet to be released, version of 1991 "The year punk broke". Steve Schatz did the sound design and mix, I did some editing, effects and finishing. Fun Little rare find in my DVD collection.
St. Louis, 2007. When Miriam Masterson, host of the Miriam Masterson Show on the QET Home Shopping Network, arrives at her mother Rose's house to pick her up for their scheduled appointment at the local perfume counter, something seems slightly off. Rose has been forgetful lately and doesn't seem herself. She can't remember the name of the signature scent she's worn as far back as Miriam can remember, but Miriam is determined to figure out what the scent is called, and hopes to jog her mother's memory. She might be pushing too far. Written and directed by Brian Pera. Featuring series regular Ann Magnuson, Glenda Mace, Kim Howard, Stephanie Norwood, and Paige Hollenbeck. Director of photography: Ryan Parker. Edited by Eileen Meyer and Brian Pera, with a score by Jonathan Kirkscey.

In addition there are two live performances from The Empty Glass by Tape Age and Speedsuit. The show also includes a three-part animated cartoon by The Pentagram Flowerbox crew. This is footage from that original show July 15, 2010, featuring Magnuson and a band led by Chuck Biel, featuring Ryan Kennedy on guitar; Vince Biel on drums, Laurel Denny on backing vocals and Biel on bass, with special guest Doug Payne on sax. Magnuson's LA shows were set for the Steve Allen Theater, featuring her backing band, the Star Whackers From Mars (Kristian Hoffman, Jonathan Lea, Joe Berardi, Kristi Callanand, Miiko Watanabe, plus guest performer Michael Des Barres). James St. James had a wonderful night at Ann Magnuson's performance of The Jobriath Medley at the Redcat as part of Outfest. James got to chat with Ann about Jobriath, the '70s openly gay glam rock singer whose tragically overlooked career is being celebrated in Ann's show. James also interviewed Prince Poppycock and Timur Bekbosunov (both performed in the show), as well as Jobriath's platonic girlfriend Miss Mercy of the GTO's, The Jobriath Medley album cover artist Austin Young, publicist Mickey Cottrell (representing the feature doc Jobriath A.D.), and more. Visit Ann's website for info on her album The Jobriath Medley.

Forever and a Day
By: Anthony Skinner Bethel Music Publishing
I was afraid Your love set me free
I was in debt You paid the price for me
I was hurt you took away my pain
I was alone until You called my name
I was broken and You mended me
Before I was You loved me
You healed my body and You made me whole
No matter what I do You don’t let go
I will sing to the King, I am the ransomed one
How I love Your holy name, holy to the Lamb who was slain
When I laugh and when I cry, You are the reason why
How I long to be with You, forever and a day
When I go to bed, You are near
When I wake up, You are there
When I say Your name, You are here
When I walk in faith, You’re everywhere
You catch and save every tear I cry
You journal everyday all about my life
Your love for me reaches to the sky
