Nancy Ajram (Arabic: نانسي نبيل عجرم‎, born May 16, 1983 in Beirut) is a Lebanese singer and multi-platinum recording artist. With the support of her father, Nancy began performing as a child and released her first studio album by the age of 15. Her breakthrough occurred with the start of her collaboration with well-known producer Jiji Lamara, when she released her smash hit "Akhasmak Ah" and 3rd studio album, Ya Salam. In 2004, she released her second international best-seller "Ah W Noss", which spawned several smash-hits, "Ah W Noss", "Lawn Ouyounak", and "Inta Eih" at which point Nancy had established pop icon status in the Middle East.

Her 2008 album "Bitfakkar Fi Eih" spawned seven singles and won Nancy's first World Music Award as Best-selling Middle Eastern Artist, the youngest Arab WMA winner to date. She has released eight studio albums to date and numerous other chart-topping singles such as "Sehr Ouyouno", "Atabtab", "Moegaba", "Ana Yalli", "Ehsas Jdeed", "Mashi Haddi", "Fi Hagat", "Ya Kether", and "Ma Tegi Hena".

Ah W Noss

Ah W Noss (Arabic: آه ونص‎) is the hit 2004 album from Lebanese singer Nancy Ajram. This was the follow-up project to 2003's Ya Salam. In 2003, the album launched Nancy Ajram to the heights of Arab music, thanks to a string of hit singles which have become part of pop culture today. Naturally, there was pressure for this album to achieve the same success as its predecessor had done.

The lead single Ah W Noss, went on to achieve massive airplay and video time on the major music channels, commanding the top spot for several weeks and was even covered by Pakistani singer Hadiqa Kiani. The album was a big hit, on the strength of the lead single. Summer 2004 saw Nancy launch a major world tour on the strength of her new single. In late 2004, Ajram became the Middle Eastern face of Coca-Cola, which opened a whole new promotional phase for the young starlet.

Noss

Noss is a small, previously inhabited island in Shetland, Scotland. It is a sheep farm and has been a national nature reserve since 1955.

Geography

Noss is separated from the island of Bressay by the narrow Noss Sound. It has been run as a sheep farm since 1900.

Noss had a population of 20 in 1851 but has had no permanent inhabitants since 1939. The main focus of settlement on Noss was around the low lying west side of the island at Gungstie (Old Norse: a landing place). Gungstie was built in the 1670s and is currently used by the seasonal wildlife wardens. Another settlement at Setter, on the south east of the island was inhabited until the 1870s and now lies derelict. Among the few families living on Noss were the Booth family headed by Joseph Booth (1765–1847). Genealogical records indicate that he was occupied as a farmer and fish curer. Records show that he was resident on Noss as early as 1834.

Wildlife

Noss has been a national nature reserve since 1955. The island is linked to Bressay by a seasonal ferry service, run by the wildlife wardens using an inflatable boat.

Naval Ocean Surveillance System

The Naval Ocean Surveillance System (NOSS), is a series of SIGINT satellites which conducted ELINT for the U.S. Navy beginning in the early 1970s. The first series of satellites were codenamed White Cloud or PARCAE, while second and third-generation satellites have used the codenames Ranger and Intruder.

The system is operated by the United States Navy and its main purpose was tactical geolocation of Soviet Navy assets during the Cold War. The NOSS satellites operate in clusters in low Earth orbit to detect radar and other electronic transmissions from ships at sea and locate them using the "Time Difference Of Arrival" technique.
