The parade through the City marked Alan Yarrow taking up the post of Lord Mayor of London
The City of London's 1297 copy of the Magna Carta has travelled through the capital during the Lord Mayor's Show.
The parade through the City marked Alan Yarrow taking up the post of the 687th Lord Mayor of London.
Around half a million people are thought to have turned out to watch the annual pageant which featured more than 7,000 participants and 19 bands.
The 800th anniversary of Magna Carta will be marked in major commemorative events in 2015.

The Electoral Commission has now set new dates for the nomination of candidates for the position of Kampala Lord Mayor.
The nominations will now be conducted from 18th – 20th November. This followed a consultative meeting the Electoral Commission held with other government officials and the concerned parties earlier in the day.
The executive has also agreed to withdrew the controversial KCCA Amendment bill that was tabled last week

Deputy Chief Justice Steven Kavuma has advised Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago to apply formally to the Court of Appeal to hear his application in regard to the reoccupation of his office at City Hall two years since he was kicked out.
This followed a one-hour closed door meeting Lukwago held with the Deputy Chief Justice, the Attorney General and the lawyers of Kampala Capital City Authority at the Deputy Chief Justice’s chambers in Kampala.

Kampala lord mayor Erias Lukwago has vowed to continue his demand for accountability in the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) once he is re-elected to office in the 2016 polls. Lukwago has served only three years of his five year term, being controversially impeached in 2013 on grounds of misconduct, abuse of office and incompetence. Lukwago has repeatedly accused the KCCA Executive Director Jennifer Musisi of usurping his powers and frustrating his efforts in conducting his work. Lukwago, who is Kampala’s first Lord Mayor, having been elected in 2011, was today cleared to take part in the race. A television reporter (Delta TV) has been rushed to hospital after he was shot during a teargas-permeated scuffle in which defiant Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago was arrested. The journalist has been identified as Enock Kugonza while another person, councillor Mariam Kizito has also been injured and rushed to hospital. Lukwago has been whisked away to a yet-to-be-established location. He was insisting on proceeding to the Electoral Commission offices for mayoral nomination, despite the deferment of the process last week. The position of Lord Mayor has a role in the Square Mile, whilst the Mayor of London (a role which has existed only since 2000) is a different individual entirely, namely the elected head of the Greater London Authority.
The Lord Mayor's Show is centred on a street parade which in its modern form is a light-hearted combination of traditional British pageantry and elements of carnival. On the day after being sworn in, the Lord Mayor and several others participate in a procession from the Guildhall in the centre of the City of London to the Royal Courts of Justice on the edge of the City of Westminster, where the Lord Mayor swears his or her allegiance to the Crown.
★ Origin and date of the show
The office of Lord Mayor dates from 1189 and it was a requirement of the charter establishing it that the mayor travelled the royal enclave at Westminster to present himself to the monarch's representatives, the senior judges as Barons of the Exchequer to take an oath of loyalty to the Sovereign upon beginning his term. The event is officially listed in the City's Civic Calendar as 'The Procession to the Royal Courts of Justice and Presentation of the Lord Mayor to the Chief Justices'; when the Royal Courts moved from Wesminster to the Strand location in 1882 the route was shortened. Originally this journey was mostly made by barge on the River Thames, the usual method of transport for this route in those days. Pageantry and display gradually grew around the trip, comparable to the far less frequent Royal Entry parades that usually followed a coronation or royal wedding, and by the 16th century the "show" was firmly established as a major entertainment for Londoners.
In London, the show occurred annually on 29 October.[3] In 1751, Great Britain replaced the Julian calendar with the Gregorian calendar; the Lord Mayor's Show was then moved to 9 November. In 1959, another change was made: the Lord Mayor's Show is now held on the second Saturday in November. The Lord Mayor's Show has regularly been held on the scheduled day; it has not been moved since 1852, when the show made way for Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington's funeral. The show was not interrupted by the Second World War. The Lord Mayor has been making that journey every year for 477 years, surviving plague and fire and countless wars and insurrections. The modern Lord Mayor's procession is a direct descendant of that first journey to Westminster.

Kampala lord mayor Erias Lukwago has vowed to continue his demand for accountability in the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) once he is re-elected to office in the 2016 polls. Lukwago has served only three years of his five year term, being controversially impeached in 2013 on grounds of misconduct, abuse of office and incompetence. Lukwago has repeatedly accused the KCCA Executive Director Jennifer Musisi of usurping his powers and frustrating his efforts in conducting his work. Lukwago, who is Kampala’s first Lord Mayor, having been elected in 2011, was today cleared to take part in the race.

A television reporter (Delta TV) has been rushed to hospital after he was shot during a teargas-permeated scuffle in which defiant Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago was arrested.
The journalist has been identified as Enock Kugonza while another person, councillor Mariam Kizito has also been injured and rushed to hospital.
Lukwago has been whisked away to a yet-to-be-established location.
He was insisting on proceeding to the Electoral Commission offices for mayoral nomination, despite the deferment of the process last week.
Earlier, Lukwago told reporters he was yet to receive official communication from EC on the postponement.
Today's nominations were postponed as the commission awaited guidance from the minister in charge of Kampala, Frank Tumwebaze.
This followed the tabling in Parliament of KCCA Act amendments that seek to further empower the executive director while making the Lord Mayor post more ceremonial.
The proposed amendments also controversially seek to transfer the suffrage powers to elect the Lord Mayor from the public to elected councilors.
