Now here’s a tale to buoy you through our time of sinking expectations. The Baffler Foundation Inc. is a tax-exempt organization incorporated “to promote art, science, and education by publishing a literary magazine.” Working in subject areas that have been largely abandoned by universities, foundations, business, and government, we employ a core staff of editors, designers, and researchers from our HQ in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Together we produce not only The Baffler magazine in print and digital editions, but also books, a daily blog, and symposia, lectures, and events around the country. Yes, we also have tote bags.
Our donors, many and varied, include an actor, bookstore owner, film producer, hedge-fund manager, videogame designer, playwright, and several publishers, professors, and tech entrepreneurs, all with exceedingly good taste. Thanks to them, as well as to subscribers in all fifty U.S. States, we’ve upheld our pledge not to exploit anyone. That’s right, no interns are used in the making of The Baffler, and all contributions are paid.
