Waste oil is defined as any petroleum-based or synthetic oil that, through contamination, has become unsuitable for its original purpose due to the presence of impurities or loss of original properties.
The U.S. EPA defines the term "used oil" as any petroleum or synthetic oil that has been used, and as a result of such use is contaminated by physical or chemical properties. "Used oil" is a precise regulatory term. "Waste oil" is a more generic term for oil that has been contaminated with substances that may or may not be hazardous. Any oil contaminated with hazardous waste may itself be a hazardous waste, and if so, must be managed subject to hazardous waste management standards. Both used oil and waste oil require proper recycling or disposal to avoid creating an environmental problem.
Some examples of types of products that after use, can be labeled as used oil are: hydraulic oil, transmission oil, brake fluids, motor oil, crankcase oil, gear box oil, synthetic oil, and grades 1, 2, 3 and 4 fuel oil.
Waste and wastes are unwanted or unusable materials. Waste is any substance which is discarded after primary use, or it is worthless, defective and of no use.
The term is often subjective (because waste to one person is not necessarily waste to another) and sometimes objectively inaccurate (for example, to send scrap metals to a landfill is to inaccurately classify them as waste, because they are recyclable). Examples include municipal solid waste (household trash/refuse), hazardous waste, wastewater (such as sewage, which contains bodily wastes (feces and urine) and surface runoff), radioactive waste, and others.
According to the Basel Convention,
Under the Waste Framework Directive, the European Union defines waste as "an object the holder discards, intends to discard or is required to discard."
There are many waste types defined by modern systems of waste management, notably including:
An oil is any neutral, nonpolar chemical substance that is a viscous liquid at ambient temperatures and is both hydrophobic (immiscible with water, literally "water fearing") and lipophilic (miscible with other oils, literally "fat loving"). Oils have a high carbon and hydrogen content and are usually flammable and slippery.
The general definition of oil includes classes of chemical compounds that may be otherwise unrelated in structure, properties, and uses. Oils may be animal, vegetable, or petrochemical in origin, and may be volatile or non-volatile. They are used for food, fuel, lubrication, and the manufacture of paints, plastics, and other materials. Specially prepared oils are used in some religious ceremonies as purifying agents.
First attested in English 1176, the word oil comes from Old French oile, from Latin oleum, which in turn comes from the Greek ἔλαιον (elaion), "olive oil, oil" and that from ἐλαία (elaia), "olive tree", "olive fruit". The earliest attested forms of the word are the Mycenaean Greek 𐀁𐀨𐀺, e-ra-wo and 𐀁𐁉𐀺, e-rai-wo, written in the Linear B syllabic script.

That means most of our solid waste goes to landfills and incinerators - including recyclable items like paper, glass, metal and plastic. Massive amounts of food waste that can be composted is clogging landfills, creating dangerous greenhouse gases. Many cities are starting to tackle this problem by implementing policies to help curb the waste by recycling and composting more. It's known as the "zero waste" movement, and San Francisco is on the forefront. Other cities that have zero waste goals include Portland, Seattle,...

The 15th International Energy Forum, held in Algiers earlier this week, saw OPEC members decide to cut production by about 800,000 barrels per day. The cut would not be consistent across all member states but was significant nonetheless, being the first in eight years. The move is forecast to stabilise global oil prices. "Today OPEC has taken an historic decision. OPEC will go back to its role of monitoring the market. It's a role that it lost many years ago, that it is now reclaiming," said Noureddine Boutarfa, Algerian energy minister. We've seen that in the past, when Saudi Arabia was serious about cutting down oil, it has significantly impacted the oil price. John Sfakianakis, Gulf Research Center Many oil income reliant states have welcomed OPEC's decision, in light of the dramati...

TRANSCRIPT AND SOURCES: https://www.corbettreport.com/?p=16888 From farm to pharmaceutical, diesel truck to dinner plate, pipeline to plastic product, it is impossible to think of an area of our modern-day lives that is not affected by the oil industry. The story of oil is the story of the modern world. And this is the story of those who helped shape that world, and how the oil-igarchy they created is on the verge of monopolizing life itself.

With too much global supply and the lowest price in nearly 20 years - there's anxiety about a possible oil market meltdown. US crude prices fell below $30 a barrel on Tuesday, before settling down, but only a bit. While most major oil companies are slashing their budgets and jobs, some of the biggest oil companies like Saudi Aramco have not cut back on production. And some OPEC states, like Iran and Iraq, are looking to increase production. In the past year, the price of a barrel of oil has fallen by more than 50%. The highest price in the last 12 months was $110 a barrel. Some investment bankers are now warning that oil could crash to $10 a barrel. So, what's behind the falling price of oil and what does it mean for consumers? Presenter: Peter Dobbie Guests: Corneli...
Protests at the North Dakota Access Pipeline, fighting for clean water, have been met with absurdly repressive resistance from the police. Militarized police were sent to break up extremely peaceful protests. They arrested actress/activist Shailene Woodley and 27 other protesters. Similarly, near the environmentalist shutdown of the Tar Sands Oil pipeline, not only activists were arrested, but also award-winning documentarian Deia Schlosberg. When the local police prepare themselves with ultimate force to arrest peaceful protesters and journalists, they make journalism a dangerous crime. Crude - The Incredible Journey of Oil From the food on our tables to the fuel in our cars, crude oil seeps invisibly into almost every part of our modern lives. It is the energy source and raw material that drives transport and the economy. Yet many of us have little idea of the incredible journey it has made to reach our petrol tanks and plastic bags. Coming in the wake of rising global concerns about the continued supply of oil, and increasingly weird weather patterns, Crude spans 160 million years of the Earth's history to reveal the story of oil; from its birth deep in the dinosaur-inhabited past, to its ascendancy as the indispensable ingredient of modern life. Filmed on location in 11 countries across five continents, the program's award-winning Australian filmmaker Richard Smith ...
Peak oil, an event based on M. King Hubbert's theory, is the point in time when the maximum rate of extraction of petroleum is reached, after which the rate of production is expected to enter terminal decline. Peak oil theory is based on the observed rise, peak, (sometimes rapid) fall, and depletion of aggregate production rate in oil fields over time. Mostly due to the development of new production techniques and the exploitation of unconventional supplies, Hubbert's original predictions for world production proved premature. Peak oil is often confused with oil depletion; peak oil is the point of maximum production, while depletion refers to a period of falling reserves and supply.

The is the torpedo oil burner that was featured in earlier Vids. It was designed to be started and pre heated with gas. A friend wanted to know if it were possible to start the thing on diesel or Kero. I didn't think it would be easily but I had no trouble. I did not push the lit paper back far enough into the burner initially but once that was done and the rest of the paper caught alight, it came up very easily. The fuel used was Waste Vegetable oil but any non inflammable liquid fuel can be used . The burner is suitable for Metal melting, water heating, Home or shed heating and other applications where a reliable source of stable free heat is needed.
