Uroš Umek (born May 16, 1976 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, better known as DJ Umek or simply Umek, is a Slovenian dance-music composer and DJ.
Umek began DJing in 1993 at the age of 17 years. He was among the pioneers of the electronic music in Slovenia. Umek became famous by techno-supporters in Europe about 2001, for his fast mixing skills and his uplifting dj-sets. In the later years he changed his style a little bit. He has released a large number of EPs and anthems and has a reputation as an innovator. In 2006 he released a single "Posing as me" which was a big hit in Slovenia and in 2007 another video supported project with a Croatian singer and lyrics writer Anđa Marić Carbon Occasions. He is known to play the music from 4 turntables simoultaneously. On his birthday May 16 he organises a musical event called Dan elektronike (Day of electronics). He is the owner of 2 record labels called Consumer recreation and Recycled loops. He was ranked at position 29 of the TOP 100 DJs for the year 2007 by the DJ Magazine. Some people regard Umek as one of the Top 10 Techno DJs in the world.

Prvi letošnji kreativni zajtrk smo pripravili tako, da bo bujenje držalo še nekaj zimskih dni, zvezda večera - khm jutra - je Uroš UMEK, en najboljših in najbolj zabukiranih techno DJ-ev na svetu. Na sceni je že 20 let in ravno se je vrnil s svoje najdaljše in najbolj intenzivne turneje doslej, kjer je bil headliner na mnogih festivalih v ZDA in razprodanih kultnih klubskih večerih v Južni Ameriki. Slišali bomo beate, predvsem pa zgodbo o tem, kako se je UMEK povzpel iz ljubljanskega predmestja na enega glasbenih prestolov, kaj so njegove magdalenice, kakšen odnos ima do košarke in snowboardanja in kaj najraje je za zajtrk. UMEK ima na družbenih omrežjih najmočnejša slovenska profila, saj na tviterjih @UMEK_1605 sledi že več kot 80 k tviterašev, na Facebooku pa njegovo stran spremlja več 2,5 milijona uporabnikov. It would take a long essay to fully explain UMEK’s meaning to electronic music. The Slovenian born producer and DJ has been setting trends and rocking dance floors for two decades now -- and still shows no signs of slowing down. He’s tireless in his techno and tech house production and with more than 100 gigs per year, probably one of the busiest techno DJs out there.
He’s not only been rocking our ears with his own productions for labels like Toolroom, Spinnin, Great Stuff, Intec and many more, but has also been heavily involved in choosing who to sign to his arty imprint 1605, which mostly supports young and talented artists who haven’t yet made it on the global party scene.
Having conquered most of world’s biggest stages and festivals, UMEK started his own weekly radio show “Behind the Iron Curtain,” which immediately landed on dozens of the world’s hippest EDM radio stations.
Although he probably holds a national record for the number of flights per year, UMEK still finds time for charity.
