Bihar Network - Shaadi Song of Bihar in Angica Dialect of Hindi
A Bhajan is any type of Hindu devotional song. It has no fixed form: it may be as simple as a mantra or kirtan or as sophisticated as the dhrupad or kriti with music based on classical ragas and talas. It is normally lyrical, expressing love for the Divine. The name, a cognate of bhakti, meaning religious devotion, suggests its importance to the bhakti movement that spread from the south of India throughout the entire subcontinent in the Moghul era. Bhajans by Kabir, Meerabai, Surdas, Tulsidas and a few others are considered to be classic. The language of their works is influenced by several of the dialects of Hindi. They are widely enjoyed even among those who do not speak Hindi. Anecdotes and episodes from scriptures, the teachings of saints and descriptions of gods have all been the subject of bhajans. The Dhrupad style, Sufi qawwali and the kirtan or song in the Haridasi tradition are related to bhajan. Nanak, Kabir, Meera, Narottama Dasa, Surdas and Tulsidas are notable composers. Some of the very popular styles of Bhajans are Ram Bhajan, Krishna Bhajan and Meera Bhajan. As the name suggests Ram Bhajan and Krishna Bhajan are primarily hymns dedicated to the respective Gods. Meera Bhajan is a form of Bhajan that is composed by Meera Bai as a token of love for the holy lord.
This album “Ram Naam Rasa Pijey” is a compilation of Ram Bhajan, Krishna Bhajan, Meera Bhajan and other Traditional Hindu Devotional Songs. Some of them are hugely popular amongst Hindus all over the world, such as Thumak Chalata Ram Chandra and Hey Gobinda Rakho Sharana. These are timeless classics that have become synonymous with the Hindu culture. The singer Shikha Bhattacharya has done afabulous job of creating a magic with her melodious voice through these classic Hindu Devotional Songs. Overall this compilation is a must have for listeners of various Bhajans and Hindu Devotional Songs.

Best Of Ghulam Ali | Ghazal | Chupke Chupke | Baharon Ko Chaman Yaad
Ghulam Ali is considered as one of the top notch Ghazal singers of his era. This compilation comprises some of the best of Ghulam Ali. Ghulam Ali is a noted Ghazal singer from Pakistan whose songs are immensely popular throughout the sub-continent. He is a trained singer from the Patiala Gharana, and is one of the first Ghazal singers who mixed various other genres like Hindustani Classical with the traditional technique. Ghulam Ali almost single-handedly popularized Ghazals all over the world.
Traditional Urdu Ghazals had a particular style or Gayaki. Ghazals were initially sung in Urdu or Farsi language which was the language of the erudite. The court poets of the Nawabs and Sulltans would compose Ghazals and present the song in the courts only to be cherished by people from the upper strata of the society who were connoisseurs of Urdu language. But this restricted the spread of the art form. Gradually Ghazals were written in Hindi or in other lighter dialects which were more accessible to the mass. Singers like Ghulam Ali deserve their due credit for making Ghazals household phenomena. Ghulam Ali sang Ghazals for many films which became a rage amongst masses. One of the classic Ghulam Ali’s Bollywood hit was the song named “Chupke Chupke” from the 1982 B.R. Chopra blockbuster, Nikaah. This song is a precious possession of this compilation. Another such super duper hit in this compilation is “Baharon Ko Chaman Yaad”. These are some immortal Best of Ghulam Ali songs. Ghulam Ali also sang some beautiful Nepali Ghazals written by the king of Nepal. Ghulam Ali has done innumerable shows all over the world and these songs are still requested for any Ghulam Ali concert. This Best Of Ghulam Ali Compilation is any Ghazal listeners delight.

A dialect continuum or dialect area was defined by Leonard Bloomfield as a range of dialects spoken across some geographical area that differ only slightly between neighboring areas, but as one travels in any direction, these differences accumulate in such a way that speakers from opposite ends of the continuum are no longer mutually intelligible. (This is analogous to a ring species in evolutionary biology.) The lines that can be drawn between areas that differ with respect to any feature of language are called isoglosses. According to the abstand and ausbau languages paradigm, these dialects can be considered abstand languages (i.e., as stand-alone languages by linguistic distance). However, they can be seen as dialects of a single language, provided that a common standard language exist through which communication is possible (a Dachsprache). In sociolinguistics, a language continuum is said to exist when two or more different languages or dialects merge one into the other(s) without a definable boundary. This happens, for example, across large parts of India or the Maghreb. Historically, it also happened in various parts of Europe, for example in a line stretching from Portuguese to Walloon (in Belgium); from Portuguese to the southern Italian dialects; and between German and Dutch. Within the last 100 years or so, however, the increasing dominance of nation-states and their standard languages has been steadily eliminating the non-standard dialects of which these language continua were formed, making the boundaries ever more abrupt and well-defined. In some cases, controversy often arises regarding the question of which particular dialect an individual is using – or even to which language a particular dialect belongs. To varying degrees, such cases involve sociolects and/or the distinctions are subjective rather than having any discernible basis in objective linguistics. They are generally found in when two or more distinct ethnicities have long histories of shared linguistic development and geographic residence, but nevertheless regard themselves, and/or each other, as speaking different dialects or languages. This occurs as a result of divisions related to religion, political ideology, nationalism or regionalism, and/or other dimensions of historical identity. In such cases, the dialects concerned may have emerged, or re-emerged, as a result of splits in extinct or declining standard languages. Examples of controversies include regions such as Kashmir, in which local Muslims usually regard their language as Urdu, while Hindus regard the same speech as Hindi. Similar complications arise across much of the former Yugoslavia, in which Bosniaks, Croats, Montenegrins and Serbs may appear to speak the very same dialect. Perhaps the prime example is the Shtokavian dialect, which is officially regarded by Croats as Croatian, Bosniaks as Bosnian, Montenegrins as Montenegrin, and Serbs as Serbian.

The Biharis (Devanagari: बिहारी; Nastaʿlīq: بِہاری; Latin: Bihārī listen (help·info)) are an Indo-Aryan ethnic group originating from the present state of Bihar with a history going back three millennia. Biharis speak Bihari languages such as Magahi, Bajjika, Bhojpuri, Maithili, amongst other local dialects, as well as Hindi or Urdu. Besides the state of Bihar, Biharis can be found throughout Eastern Uttar Pradesh, North India, West Bengal, Assam, Maharashtra and also in the neighbouring countries of Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh. A large number of Biharis travelled to various parts of the world in the 19th century to serve as indentured labour on sugarcane and rubber plantations in Guyana, Surinam, Trinidad and Tobago, Fiji, Mauritius and Natal, South Africa. During the partition of India in 1947, many Biharis of the Islamic faith migrated to East Bengal (later East Pakistan and subsequently Bangladesh). Bihari people are also well represented in Pakistan's (formerly West Pakistan) Muhajir population as a result of the partition of India, as well as the recent repatriation of some Bihari refugees from Bangladesh to Pakistan.

Dialect continuum

Scam City crosses the globe visiting ten of the world's most popular cities. A travel show with a twist we expose the darker side of tourism: the scammers and con men circling like sharks on the fringes of the tourist trade. He will discover the local specialties of crime against travellers -- every bit as distinct as the local foods and dialects.
