The terms tap and flap may be used interchangeably.
Peter Ladefoged proposed for a while that it may be useful to distinguish between them. However, his usage has been inconsistent, contradicting itself even between different editions of the same text.(Ladefoged P and Maddieson,I. (1996:230-231): The sounds of the World's Languages, UK": Blackwell Publishing Ltd. The last proposed distinction was that a tap strikes its point of contact directly, as a very brief stop, whereas a flap strikes the point of contact tangentially: "Flaps are most typically made by retracting the tongue tip behind the alveolar ridge and moving it forward so that it strikes the ridge in passing." However, later on, he no longer felt this was a useful distinction to make, and preferred to use the word flap in all cases.

The German language has different variants of the letter R, One variant is the uvular R that is pronounced with the throat and is similar to the German "ch" or to the gargling sound. The other variant is the alveolar "r" spoken with the tip of the tongue. The alveolar "r" could be an alveolar trill (rolling r) or an alveolar tap. For speaking "German" rolled r the tip of the tongue touches softly the gum ridge. By letting the air flow above the tongue the tip of the tongue starts to vibrate. That does the typical r sound ;)

Which variant of "r" is preferred depends on the area. In many parts of Bavaria, Austria, South Tyrol, Swiss, Siebenbürgen, some parts of Northern Germany and Middle Germany an alveolar "r" is used. In almost all other parts uvular "r" pronunciations are used. On TV the uvular "r" seems to be preferred.
Some "r" in the middle or at the end of a word can be vocalized. This depends on the language area. The word "Herr", "Haar", "warm", "Berg" can be pronounced with e.g. a rolled "r" or could be vocalized like "Hea", "Haa", "waam" or "Beag".
Afterwards a list of some Bavarian words or pronounciations is shown as an example.

Interesting Comments on the Interview
Originally “Young Kim” was nervous to use English; she worked in a field and did labor work in order to stay away from the language barrier.
After 15 years, she decided she wanted to reach her full potential and go back to school to become a registered nurse.
She still does not like to use the phone because she cannot understand the other people and does not believe the other people can effectively understand her.
“Young Kim” has a laid back personality and likes to sit back and watch what is happening around her.
Comments continued
When she was going to school, she felt ashamed of how other people may see her when she speaks, so she did not ask questions or share her opinions in class. She was quiet when she was in class.
While interviewing her, she said that she felt that others thought she was less intelligent and not as educated as the average person because of her accent.
“Young Kim” believes that it would be helpful for listeners to not only try and pay attention to what she is saying but also to learn more about their culture.
She frequently looks away when talking to people because it is disrespectful in the Korean culture to look others in the eye.
Comments continued
She believes people should base their opinions on people using their personalities and not their accents.
She wants people to see her as an intelligent person and not just an immigrant. I learned a lot more about accents and the Korean culture. It was interesting to hear about her struggles and also her successes.
During the interview, we were moved and felt sad because it took her 15 years for her to realize that she had the intelligence to enroll in school.
Comments Continued
We also felt sympathy when she told us that she feels as though people think she is less intelligent because of her accent.
Another time we felt moved was when she explained that she worked in the field doing labor for 15 years to stay away from the language barrier. It struck us how sad it was that she separated herself just to avoid something, which she eventually overcame!

North American English regional phonology is the study of variations in the pronunciation of spoken English by the inhabitants of various parts of North America (United States and Canada). North American English can be divided into several regional dialects based on phonological, phonetic, lexical, and some syntactic features. North American English includes American English, which has several highly developed and distinct regional varieties, along with the closely related Canadian English, which is more homogeneous. American English (especially Western dialects) and Canadian English have more in common with each other than with the many vari

A documentary report all about Sumerian language for the blind and visually impaired or for homework/assignment.
Sumerian ( "native tongue") is the language of ancient Sumer, a language isolate, it was spoken in southern Mesopotamia (modern Iraq). During the 3rd millennium BC, a very intimate cultural symbiosis developed between the Sumerians and the Akkadians, which included widespread bilingualism. The influence of Sumerian on Akkadian (and vice versa) is evident in all areas, from lexical borrowing on a massive scale, to syntactic, morphological, and phonological convergence. This has prompted scholars to ref

Augmentation procedures of soft and hard tissues using biomaterials – predictable in the daily practice.
Daniel Rothamel is a graduate of the Heinrich-Heine University of Duesseldorf, Germany, and received his Dr. med. dent. with the thesis “Establishing a new method for quantification of tooth hypersensitivity". He was trained in oral surgery and also obtained the Dr. med with his thesis on “Biocompatibility, biodegradation and angiogenetic aspects of native and cross-linked collagen membranes”. From 2002-2007 he worked as a Research Associate at the Department of Oral Surgery (Prof. Dr. J. Becker) at the Heinrich-Heine University in Duesseldorf, Germany. In 2005, he volunteered at the Clinic of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Sankhu, Kathmandu, Nepal before he went in 2007 to Australia to start a post-doc position at the Department of Oral Pathology and Molecular Research, Westmead Hospital, University of Sydney, Australia (granted by DAAD). In 2008, Daniel Rothamel moved back to Germany to work as a Research Associate in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Plastic Surgery (Prof. Dr.Dr. J. Zoeller), University of Cologne, Germany and received his PhD on “Reconstruction of jaw defects using artificial and autogenous bone blocks in combination with growth factors”. Daniel Rothamel is best known for his research interest in guided bone regeneration, implant surfaces, collagen membranes, bone substitute materials, and growth factors.
Aims
One of the most challenging procedures in dental implantology is the predictable and safe regeneration of bone and soft tissue defects. Although autogenous bone is still considered being the golden standard, different biomaterials such as bone substitutes and membranes have shown predictable results in augmentation procedures of the alveolar process. Whereas the regeneration of smaller defects inside the ridge contour may be supported by transmembraneous angioselectivity of the applied membranes, extended defects require volume-stable bone substitute materials and long-lasting barriers. Native porcine pericardium has shown favourable results, based on its multi-layered collagen structure. Moreover, available bone substitutes differ significantly in terms of biochemical aspects, influencing the volume stability, speed of bone formation, graft remodelling and patient´s acceptance. Also the quality of the recipient site, the osteogenicity of the graft and the selected healing time are affecting the predictability of the regeneration outcome.
In addition to bone augmentation biomaterials, specific collagen matrices have been established for soft tissue augmentation procedures, including gingiva thickening, vestibuloplasty and recession coverage. In contrast to the patient´s own soft tissue, the use of biomaterials is not accompanied by donor site morbidity.
Objectives
This presentation will detail selection rules of different collagen matrices and different bone graft materials that fit to the indication, the defect´s shape and to the patient's preconditions in order to achieve the best regeneration outcome. Based on clinical examples new treatment options of prevalent clinical indications like socket preservation that arise from the availability of novel collagen soft tissue grafts will be presented.

Anterior Maxilla Esthetic Bone Augmentation Procedure - by Dr. Hilt Tatum
American English (especially Western dialects) and Canadian English have more in common with each other than with the many varieties of English outside North America.
The most recent work documenting and studying the phonology of North American English dialects as a whole is the Atlas of North American English by William Labov, Sharon Ash, and Charles Boberg, on which much of the description below is based, following on a tradition of sociolinguistics dating to the 1960s; earlier large-scale American dialectology focused more on lexical variation than on phonology.

What is Sumerian language?
This has prompted scholars to refer to Sumerian and Akkadian in the third millennium as a Sprachbund (area of linguistic convergence).

What is Hebrew language?
A documentary report all about Hebrew language for the blind and visually impaired or for homework/assignment.
Hebrew (; or ) is a West Semitic language of the Afroasiatic language family. Historically, it is regarded as the language of the Israelites and their ancestors, although the language was not referred to by the name Hebrew in the Tanakh. The earliest examples of written Paleo-Hebrew date from the 10th century BCE, in the form of primitive drawings, although "the question of the language used in this inscription remained unanswered, making it impossible to prove whether it was in fact Hebrew or another local language".

What is Phoneme?
A documentary report all about Phoneme for the blind and visually impaired or for homework/assignment.
A phoneme is a basic unit of a language's phonology, which is combined with other phonemes to form meaningful units, morphemes. The phoneme can be described as "The smallest contrastive linguistic unit which may bring about a change of meaning". In this way the difference in meaning between the English words kill and kiss is a result of the exchange of the phoneme for the phoneme . Two words that differ in meaning through a contrast of a single phoneme form a minimal pair.
