Biologically, a child (plural: children) is a human between the stages of birth and puberty. The legal definition of child generally refers to a minor, otherwise known as a person younger than the age of majority.
Child may also describe a relationship with a parent (such as sons and daughters of any age) or, metaphorically, an authority figure, or signify group membership in a clan, tribe, or religion; it can also signify being strongly affected by a specific time, place, or circumstance, as in "a child of nature" or "a child of the Sixties".
There are many social issues that affect children, such as childhood education, bullying, child poverty, dysfunctional families, child labor, and in developing countries, hunger. Children can be raised by parents, by fosterers, guardians or partially raised in a day care center.
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child defines child as "a human being below the age of 18 years unless under the law applicable to the child, majority is attained earlier". This is ratified by 192 of 194 member countries. In U.S. Immigration Law, a child refers to anyone who is under the age of 21.
Abuse is the improper usage or treatment of an entity, often to unfairly or improperly gain benefit. Abuse can come in many forms, such as: physical or verbal maltreatment, injury, assault, violation, rape, unjust practices; crimes, or other types of aggression.
Abuse of authority, in the form of political corruption, is the use of legislated or otherwise authorised powers by government officials for illegitimate private gain. Misuse of government power for other purposes, such as repression of political opponents and general police brutality, is not considered political corruption. Neither are illegal acts by private persons or corporations not directly involved with the government. An illegal act by an officeholder constitutes political corruption only if the act is directly related to their official duties.
Abuse of authority is separated from abuse of power in that the act is originally condoned, but is extended beyond that initially conceived and is in not all cases
Child abuse or child maltreatment is any act, or failure to act, by a parent or other caregiver that results in actual or potential harm to a child. It includes all forms of physical abuse, sexual abuse, psychological abuse, or neglect, and can occur in a child's home, or in the organizations, schools or communities the child interacts with.
In Western countries, preventing child abuse is considered a high priority, and detailed laws and policies exist to address this issue. Different jurisdictions have developed their own definitions of what constitutes child abuse for the purposes of removing a child from his/her family and/or prosecuting a criminal charge.
The World Health Organization defines child maltreatment as:
In the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines child maltreatment as any act or series of acts of commission or omission by a parent or other caregiver that results in harm, potential for harm, or threat of harm to a child. In the United States federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act, child abuse is defined at minimum as "any recent act or failure to act on the part of a parent or caretaker which results in death, serious physical or emotional harm, sexual abuse or exploitation" and/or "an act or failure to act which presents an imminent risk of serious harm".
Hayley Warner (born January 23, 1992) is an Australian born singer and songwriter. She has become known for her carefully crafted lyrics and melodies. In 2009, she finished as runner-up in the seventh and final Australian Idol, and was noted for her high-energy performances and vast vocal range. In 2013, The Daily Telegraph named Warner as one of Australia’s most accomplished songwriters. Warner's songwriting credits total over 11 times platinum in sales worldwide. Hayley co-wrote Grammy nominated artist Tori Kelly's single "Hollow" that was released November 3, 2015. After moving to Los Angeles, Warner signed a worldwide publishing deal with Warner/Chappell Music in 2015.
As a young child, Warner was incredibly passionate about sports and set her sights on becoming the best, but at the age of seven, she was diagnosed with Perthes disease which stripped her of her sporting dreams and forced her to learn to walk again. Through her struggle, music quickly became her therapy and true calling. When she was just twelve years old she started her first band, Cloud 9. From the ages of twelve to sixteen, she performed at 500 different venues around Australia.
Our Children (French: À perdre la raison) is a 2012 Belgian-French psychological drama film directed by Joachim Lafosse. It is based on a real-life incident involving a woman (Genevieve Lhermitte), who killed her five children. The film competed in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival under the title Loving Without Reason, where Émilie Dequenne won the Un Certain Regard Award for Best Actress.
Critical response was generally strong and the film was nominated for seven Magritte Awards, winning four, including Best Film and Best Director for Lafosse. The film was selected as the Belgian entry for the Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards, but it did not make the final shortlist.
The Hollywood Reporter wrote, "In one of her strongest leading roles to date, Dequenne (The Girl on the Train, Rosetta) does a remarkable job depicting Murielle’s wavering psychological states as she heads for oblivion, and an extended sequence-shot where she drives home while singing a Julien Clerc song is particularly unforgettable."

Texas couple Bradley and Tammi Bleimeyer reportedly locked their bruised, malnourished 5-year-old son in a tiny, dirty stairway closet with nothing, but a mattress. It wasn't until police received a disturbance call late last week at their Spring, Texas home, that the little boy was saved. The boy's 16-year-old stepbrother told police that he had been locked in a closet. The teen and his father Bradley Bleimeyer, 24, had gotten into an argument in the front yard and were engaged in a fist fight when police arrived. Officers entered the house and discovered the closet under a stairway, with mattress inside and a lock attached to the door. Tammi Bleimeyer, the boy's 33-year-old stepmother, had already fled the home with the child by the time authorities arrived. The child's father and ...

HOW CHILD ABUSE AFFECTS CHILDREN, CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION
This video shows how a 14-year-old boy stands up to his abusive and manipulative mother to demand that she respect his informed choice to live with his father. Many children find themselves in situations where family courts have given custody to the parent (mostly mothers) who in many cases are not the better parent. Many children are abused by their sole custodial parent as was the child in this video by his mother. To see another teen's similar experience with abuse by her mother view this page on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sq3bVzBJYVE Often custody of children is sought by one parent, not because they are the better parent but in order to obtain child support and to exercise control over the non custodial parent. During this video, the boy describes how his mother and...
