This video is a detailed overview of how to convert a bicycle to an electric bike (eBike). The motor in this demonstration is a 750W Bafang 8Fun BBS02 Mid drive system with a 48v 9AH Samsung lithium Ion battery pack.
Purpose built eBikes are great, but expensive, and the mid drives are also generally 36v 350w systems. This motor and battery can be had for about a thousand dollars and installed on almost any existing bike. Plus you can max out the legal limit and get a 48v 750w more powerful system. Making your rides as easy or tough as you want, this is great for commuting or just exercising. When you let it assist you, it makes you feel incredibly strong, and it will get you out and enjoying riding.

A led light was attached on the top of cycle analyst so we can get the best results but this did not help enough. Also it had showed -10% lower top speed (26inch tyres) than the Yamaha XT 660Z Tenere speedometer

This video is an interview between Court and Greg who has owned an electric bike for over one year and put over 4,000 miles on it by commuting and taking fun rides around Loveland Colorado.
Greg Rye, the owner and lead chiropractor at Rye Chiropractic in Loveland Colorado got his first electric bike in mid 2014. After one year and 4,000 miles (including daily commutes and trail riding) he shares his experiences about what it’s like to own and ebike. We talk about the maintenance required, the comfort of riding and everything in between. His bike is a Haibike FS 27.5” with a Bosch Centerdrive motor.
Upgrades to the stock Haibike FSRX include Ergon ergonomic grips with bar ends, Wellgo Magnesium pedals, Cygolite USB headlight and backlight, Topeak quick release rack and slide-on bag. Greg and I talk about what it's like to own the electric bike, what it's like to commute with an ebike and we do a Q&A; about it together.

How to build a lithium ion electric bike battery pack from recovered used laptop batteries. Save hundreds of dollars by salvaging 18650 li-ion cells from used or even dead laptop batteries bought off eBay.
My pack is 24 volt 20AH which should hopefully provide a 30-45 mile range per charge on my ebike (and cost less than $150 dollars). In the video I show you how to calculate the capacity, then wire and test the completed battery.
UPDATE: The battery had a total capacity of 19aH. The groups of cells were slightly out of balance (3.3v, 2.5v, 2.9v, 2.5v, 3.1v, 2.9v) so I could rearrange some cells and get a few extra miles, but I'm happy enough with the results.

in this video i build the second 24v 24ah lithium battery block for my 48v 24ah bicycle battery. i built this pack from low quality 18650 cells. each 6 cell pack cost 4.99$ so thats only about 85 cents per cell. even if they are low quality that is wonderfully useful.
in this video when i say a cell is "unstable" i mean it is more likely to short out when it's voltage is dropped due to metal buildup on the plates.
the main differances between good quality cells and poor quality cells such as these are due to the cheep cells being made of lower quality materials. some of the differances include
1: lower chemical-electrical conversion efficiency
2: lower capacity
3: faster self-discharge rate
4: shorter life span
these characteristics dont ruin their functionality though, they are wonderfully useful even at the worst quality.

We are really sorry that cycle analyst V3 did not show the screen results as it should be. A led light was attached on the top of cycle analyst so we can get the best results but this did not help enough. Also it had showed -10% lower top speed (26inch tyres) than the Yamaha XT 660Z Tenere speedometer

My pack is 24 volt 20AH which should hopefully provide a 30-45 mile range per charge on my ebike (and cost less than $150 dollars). In the video I show you how to calculate the capacity, then wire and test the completed battery.
UPDATE: The battery had a total capacity of 19aH. The groups of cells were slightly out of balance (3.3v, 2.5v, 2.9v, 2.5v, 3.1v, 2.9v) so I could rearrange some cells and get a few extra miles, but I'm happy enough with the results.

in this video when i say a cell is "unstable" i mean it is more likely to short out when it's voltage is dropped due to metal buildup on the plates.
the main differances between good quality cells and poor quality cells such as these are due to the cheep cells being made of lower quality materials. some of the differances include
1: lower chemical-electrical conversion efficiency
2: lower capacity
3: faster self-discharge rate
4: shorter life span
these characteristics dont ruin their functionality though, they are wonderfully useful even at the worst quality.

here's a video showing how i made half of my new battery. the battery pack i built is 24v 35ah and i will built a second one to run with it. its just building two would be boring in this video and delay it even longer.
if your looking for laptop battery packs to go to ebay and search "laptop batteries" then go for "buy it now" so you can buy like 15 packs at a time. organize the search for lowest price/shipping. and ebay even has an option to limit the search to how many cell are in the packs. and you should be able to find packs that are about 1$ - 1.5$ per cell.
thanks for watching, this was a very rewarding project.especially going 30 MPH up those hills. i feel sorry for my battery on that test though haha. i'll be doing a distance test video soon, and then another when i get my 2nd battery block done. the battery should already be big enough for me to drive between towns instead of just in town.
