Wearside /ˈwɪərsʌɪd/ is an area of North East England, centred on the continuous urban area formed by Sunderland, Seaham and other settlements by the River Wear.
The ONS definition of the area has a population around 335,415 and includes Sunderland, Whitburn, Washington, Hetton-le-Hole, Bournmoor, South Hetton, Springwell Village, Ouston, Pelton, Chester-Le-Street and Houghton-le-Spring. The local government district named the "City of Sunderland" has a lower population of 280,807.
Like other parts of the North East, Wearside and Sunderland were economically structured by Primary industry; with a great deal of the economy once dependent on ship building and coal mining with large collieries such as Monkwearmouth Colliery, which declined rapidly during the mid 20th century, many areas have long been deprived with vast areas of unemployment as a result. The city of Sunderland and parts of Wearside have been slowly rejuvenated over the years and industry is now largely based around call centres, although many areas such as Easington still face social problems today.

On 17 June 1979, John Samuel Humble sent a cassette, pretending to be the Yorkshire Ripper. He introduced himself as Jack and claimed responsibility for the Ripper murders to that point. This caused the investigation to be moved away from West Yorkshire area, home of the real killer Peter Sutcliffe, and thereby helping prolong his attacks on women and prevent his potential arrest by two years. In 2006, Humble was sentenced to eight years in prison for perverting the course of justice. To learn more about the world of criminals, visit http://www.investigatingcrimes.com/

Sunday 3rd of July 2011 - Hartside Bank Cumbria. The summit stands at 1903 ft, and the Cafe is at highest point of any cafe in England. Every Sunday hundred's of motorcyclists from across the North of England, Tyneside , Wearside, Teeside & the Northwest ascend the hill and relax, at the Cafe. I was a little late getting there but I still managed to get a little of the action. Billy Connelly even turns up on his trike with Evil Kinevil as pillion passenger? The Views are stunning from the summit on a clear day you can see the Solway, Carlisle, Penrith & a stunning panorama of the Northern Lake District.

At the midnight hour you can feel the minutes fade
Licking wounds from yesterday, bracing for tomorrow's stage
I create these monsters, seems like every way I can
It's never my intention, but somehow it feels strangely planned
And this goes to show you
Ignorance is underrated, 'cause
I'd rather forget all about my past
Cruel how these moments never cease to last
And you could do better than this
If you refuse to hide
These monsters will subside
Story after story, squeezing fiction out of fact
Trying to face forward, but always looking back
Conjuring up danger when you know you're safe and sound
Once you start to question yourself, the road you take leads down, down
And this goes to show you
Ignorance is underrated
