Captain Kidd (1945) is a film starring Charles Laughton, Randolph Scott, Barbara Britton, and John Carradine, directed by Rowland V. Lee, produced by Benedict Bogeaus and James Nasser, music conducted by Werner Janssen, and released by United Artists. The film has entered the public domain since the producers neglected to renew the copyright in 1972.
Plot Summary:
Capt. William Kidd is already a clever, ruthless pirate when, in 1699, he tricks the king into commissioning him as escort for a treasure ship from India. He enlists a crew of pardoned cutthroats and Orange Povey, whom Kidd once abandoned on a reef and hoped never to see again. Of course, Kidd's intentions are treacherous. But there's more to gunner Adam Mercy than meets the eye.

"The Son of Monte Cristo" is a 1940 black-and-white film directed by Rowland V. Lee. In 1865, General Gurko Lanen is dictator of "Lichtenburg" in the Balkans. The rightful ruler, Grand Duchess Zona, hopes to get aid from Napoleon III of France. The visiting Count of Monte Cristo falls for Zona and undertakes to help her, masquerading as a foppish banker and a masked freedom fighter. The rest is rapid-fire intrigue and derring-do.
The film takes the same name as the unofficial sequel to "The Count of Monte Cristo", namely "The Son of Monte Cristo", written by Jules Lermina in 1881.

Rowland V. Lee
Rowland Vance Lee (September 6, 1891 in Findlay, Ohio – December 21, 1975 in Palm Desert, California) was an American film director, writer and producer. In 1929, he directed The Wolf of Wall Street featuring George Bancroft.
Lee directed The Son of Monte Cristo (1940), starring Louis Hayward, Joan Bennett and George Sanders. He was one of the 11 co-directors of Paramount Pictures' all-star revue Paramount on Parade (1930). He made creative use of the then-new sound medium in the near-fantasy treatment of Zoo in Budapest (1933).
He also directed The Guilty Generation (1931), Son of Frankenstein (1939), The Tower of London (1939) and The Bridge of San Luis Rey (1944).
He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Lee was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, in Glendale, California.

William Kidd
Captain William Kidd (c. 22 January 1645 – 23 May 1701) was a Scottish sailor who was tried and executed for piracy after returning from a voyage to the Indian Ocean. Some modern historians deem his piratical reputation unjust, as there is evidence that Kidd acted only as a privateer. Kidd's fame springs largely from the sensational circumstances of his questioning before the English Parliament and the ensuing trial. His actual depredations on the high seas, whether piratical or not, were both less destructive and less lucrative than those of many other contemporary pirates and privateers.
Biography
Captain William Kidd was either one of the most notorious pirates in the history of the world, or one of its most unjustly vilified and prosecuted privateers, in an imperialistic age's rationalisations of empire. Despite the legends and fiction surrounding this character, his actual career was punctuated by only a handful of skirmishes, followed by a desperate quest to clear his name.

Kelly Rowland
Kelendria Trene "Kelly" Rowland (born February 11, 1981) is an American recording artist, actress and television personality. Rowland rose to fame in the late 1990s as a member of Destiny's Child, one of the world's best-selling girl groups of all time. During their hiatus, Rowland released her debut solo album Simply Deep (2002), which sold 2.5 million copies worldwide and produced the number-one single "Dilemma" with Nelly, as well as the international top-ten hit "Stole". Rowland also transitioned into acting, with guest appearances in television sitcoms, and starring roles in Freddy vs. Jason (2003) and The Seat Filler (2005).
Following the disbandment of Destiny's Child in 2005, she released her second album Ms. Kelly (2007), which included international hits "Like This" and "Work". In 2009, Rowland served as a host on the first season of The Fashion Show, and was featured on David Guetta's number-one dance hit "When Love Takes Over". The song's global success influenced Rowland to explore dance music on her third album Here I Am (2011), which spawned the international top-ten hit "Commander" and US R&B/Hip-Hop number-one "Motivation". In 2011, she returned to television as a judge on the eighth season of The X Factor UK, and in 2013, became a judge on the third and final season of The X Factor USA. Rowland's fourth album Talk a Good Game (2013), which saw a return to her "R&B roots", was released to positive reviews.

Barbara Britton
Barbara Britton (September 26, 1919 – January 17, 1980) was an American film and television actress. She is best known for her western film roles opposite Randolph Scott, Joel McCrea, and Gene Autry and for her two-year tenure as inquisitive amateur sleuth Pam North on the television series Mr. and Mrs. North.
Early life
Barbara Maurine Brantingham was born September 26, 1919, in Long Beach, California. Her involvement with stage productions began when she was 14. She attended Polytechnic High School and Long Beach City College, majoring in speech with the intention of working as a speech and drama teacher. While in school she began to show an interest in acting and began working on local stage productions.
Career
In 1941, while appearing in a Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, a photo of Britton was used on the front page of a local newspaper. A talent scout took notice, and she was soon signed to a Paramount Pictures contract. (Another source says that a talent scout spotted her as the lead in the production of The Old Maid at her college, and "three weeks later she was signed by Paramount Pictures as a stock player.")

"The Son of Monte Cristo" is a 1940 black-and-white film directed by Rowland V. Lee. In 1865, General Gurko Lanen is dictator of "Lichtenburg" in the Balkans. The rightful ruler, Grand Duchess Zona, hopes to get aid from Napoleon III of France. The visiting Count of Monte Cristo falls for Zona and undertakes to help her, masquerading as a foppish banker and a masked freedom fighter. The rest is rapid-fire intrigue and derring-do.
The film takes the same name as the unofficial sequel to "The Count of Monte Cristo", namely "The Son of Monte Cristo", written by Jules Lermina in 1881.
