Hits (Phil Collins album)

Hits (stylized as ...Hits), released in 1998 and again in 2008, following the success of "In the Air Tonight" on the Cadbury ad campaign, is the only greatest hits collection of Phil Collins studio recordings. The collection included fourteen Top 40 hits, including seven American number 1 songs, spanning from the albums Face Value (1981) through Dance into the Light (1996). One new Collins recording, a cover of Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors", also appeared on the collection and was a popular song on adult contemporary stations. ...Hits was also the first Phil Collins album to include four songs originally recorded for motion pictures (all of them U.S. number 1 hits) as well as his popular duet with Philip Bailey, "Easy Lover" (a UK number 1 hit).

In 1998, the album reached number 1 in the United Kingdom and number 18 in the United States. On 4 August 2008, it became the number 1 album on the New Zealand RIANZ album chart. In July 2012, the album re-entered the U.S. charts, reaching number 6 on the Billboard 200 when the album price was deeply discounted very briefly by Amazon.com. It has sold 3,429,000 in the US as of July 2012.

Hits (Pulp album)

Hits is a greatest hits collection by UK indie-pop band Pulp, released in November 2002.

Background

As a collection, Hits only covers Pulp's singles from the early-90s when they started becoming popular, although the band had existed in one form or another since 1979. "Mis-Shapes", from Different Class, is the only hit single not included here, apparently because the band cannot stand the song. Two other singles, "Common People" and "Disco 2000", are presented in their Different Class album mixes rather than their more familiar (but since deleted) "hit" single versions. The compilation also includes non-single track "Underwear" and a new song "Last Day of the Miners' Strike".

The album was also released on DVD under the same title, featuring the band's promotional videos from the same era, a number of live performances, documentaries and short movies.

Hits (Seal album)

Hits is a 2009 compilation album by Seal, released by Warner Bros. Records. It is Seal's second compilation album following 2004's Best 1991–2004. The album was released on two formats, a 1-disc standard edition which featured 19 tracks and a 2-disc deluxe edition which featured 34 tracks. Both versions of the album included two new songs "I Am Your Man" and "Thank You".

The cover also serves as the artwork for the 2008 single "It's a Man's Man's Man's World".

The single disc edition tends to include many of the single versions of the songs, whereas the deluxe edition replaces them with the album versions, or as in "The Beginning"'s case, a remix.

Sugar (Stanley Turrentine album)

Sugar is an album by jazz saxophonist Stanley Turrentine, his first recorded for the CTI Records label following his long association with Blue Note, featuring performances by Turrentine with Freddie Hubbard, George Benson, Ron Carter, and Billy Kaye with Lonnie Liston Smith added on the title track and Butch Cornell and Richard "Pablo" Landrum on the other two tracks on the original release. The CD rerelease added a live version of the title track recorded at the Hollywood Palladium in 1971.

Reception

The album is one of Turrentines best received and was greeted with universal acclaim on release and on subsequent reissues. The Allmusic review by Thom Jurek awarded the album 4½ stars and states "If jazz fans are interested in Turrentine beyond the Blue Note period — and they should be — this is a heck of a place to listen for satisfaction". The All About Jazz review by David Rickert states "Seldom does a group of musicians click on all levels and rise into the stratosphere, but this is one such record, a relic from a time when jazz was going through growing pains but still spawning some interesting projects. Turrentine was one of the lucky few who made his crowning achievement during this time".

Sugar (Flo Rida song)

"Sugar" is a song by American rapper Flo Rida, featuring American pop/dance singer Wynter Gordon. The song's chorus samples the song "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" by Italian electronic music group Eiffel 65. The song was written by Flo Rida, The Jackie Boyz, Jeffrey Jey, Maurizio Lobina, and Massimo Gabutti, and was produced by DJ Montay for Flo Rida's second album, R.O.O.T.S.. The song was released as the album's third official single in March 2009 as a digital download.

The single became the second top 10 single from R.O.O.T.S., reaching number five on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, fueled by high sales from digital downloads. The single has also been successful in other countries, reaching the top ten in Canada, and on other Billboard subcharts. Following the song's success in the U.S., the song was released May 25, 2009, in the United Kingdom.

Critical reception

On reviews for the album, the song received a mixed reception, due to criticism on the use of the sample of "Blue (Da Ba Dee)". Billboard magazine reviewed the single positively, said "'Sugar', rides an unlikely interpolation of 'Blue (Da Ba Dee)' by Eiffel 65", but consider it one of the highlights of the album. However, AllMusic said that the song is "shameless enough to incorporate elements of Eiffel 65's Euro-trash earworm 'Blue (Da Ba Dee)'", but chose it as a track pick.

Sugar (Maroon 5 song)

"Sugar" is a song recorded by American pop rock band Maroon 5 for their fifth studio album, V (2014). It was written by Adam Levine, Martin Johnson, Jacob Kasher Hindlin and Mike Posner together with its producers Ammo and Cirkut. It was sent to contemporary hit radio in the United States, as the third single from the album on January 13, 2015. A remix of the song, featuring rapper Nicki Minaj was digitally released on March 10 via the iTunes Store. "Sugar" is a disco, funk-pop and soul song that features a wide range of instruments including percussion, keyboards and guitars.

"Sugar" received generally positive reviews from music critics, who praised its catchy feel and retro vibe. In the US, it peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the band's third top 10 single from V, and eighth consecutive top 10 hit. "Sugar" is the 68th song in history to score at least 20 weeks in the Top 10 of the Hot 100. Film director David Dobkin shot the accompanying music video for the single in Los Angeles. Inspired by the 2005 romantic comedy Wedding Crashers, it features Maroon 5 crashing weddings that happened in the city. The video premiered on January 14, 2015, and received its television premiere on January 17. The song is also used as the encore of the shows during the Maroon 5 World Tour 2015.

O.T.T.

O.T.T. ("Over The Top") is a late-night adult version of the anarchic ATV children's show Tiswas, which was made by its ITV franchise successor Central Independent Television. It was broadcast at 11.00pm on Saturday nights for one series in 1982. O.T.T. was created and presented by Chris Tarrant, and also starred ex-Tiswasians John Gorman, Lenny Henry and Bob Carolgees. Helen Atkinson-Wood was the female sidekick replacement for Sally James, who stayed behind to present the concurrent and final series of Tiswas alone.

Origins

The programme's origins can be traced to Independent Broadcasting Authority worries about the increasingly risqué content of Tiswas. To find an outlet for this aspect of Tiswas's content, Tarrant joined up with Gorman, Henry and James in a live tour of nightclubs and colleges called The Four Bucketeers. The success of this tour (plus album, single and Top of the Pops appearance) made them realise that an appreciative adult audience existed. On 28 March 1981, Tarrant, Carolgees, Gorman and Henry left Tiswas for good to start work on O.T.T..
