San Salvador de Jujuy

San Salvador de Jujuy (Spanish pronunciation: [san salβaˈðor ðe xuˈxui]), commonly known as Jujuy and locally often referred to as San Salvador, is the capital city of Jujuy Province in northwest Argentina. It lies near the southern end of the Humahuaca Canyon where wooded hills meet the lowlands.

Its population at the 2001 census [INDEC] was 237,751 inhabitants. If its suburbs are included, this figure rises to around 300,000. The current mayor is Raúl Jorge.

City information

The city lies on National Route 9 that connects La Quiaca 289 km (180 mi) with Salta 120 km (75 mi), and it is 1,525 km (948 mi) from Buenos Aires. Tourist destinations not far from the city are Tilcara 84 km (52 mi), Humahuaca 126 km (78 mi), and the Calilegua National Park 111 km (69 mi).

Jujuy is located near the Andes, at the junction of the Xibi Xibi River and the Río Grande de Jujuy, 1,238 meters above sea level. The weather is humid during the summer and dry and cold during the winter. Temperatures vary widely between day and night.

Carlos Sainz

Carlos Sainz Cenamor (born 12 April 1962 in Madrid, Spain) is a Spanish former rally driver. He won the World Rally Championship drivers' title with Toyota in 1990 and 1992, and finished runner-up four times. Constructors' world champions to have benefited from Sainz are Subaru (1995), Toyota (1999) and Citroën (2003, 2004 and 2005).

Nicknamed El Matador, Sainz holds the WRC record for most career starts. He was also the first non-Nordic driver to win the 1000 Lakes Rally in Finland. He came close to repeating the feat at the Swedish Rally finishing second four times and third twice. Besides WRC successes, he has won the Dakar Rally (2010), the Race of Champions (1997) and the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship (1990). His co-drivers were Antonio Boto, Luís Moya and Marc Martí.

His son, Carlos Sainz Jr., born on 1 September 1994, is also a professional racing driver, currently competing for Scuderia Toro Rosso in Formula One.

Career

Early years

Before moving into motorsport, multitalented Sainz played football and squash. As a teenager, Real Madrid gave him a trial and in squash he was the Spanish champion at the age of 16. He got his first touch of motorsport in Formula Ford while still playing squash and football. His parents hoped him to be a lawyer and were horrified when Sainz left university to concentrate full-time on his motorsport career.

Jolly Club

Jolly Club was an Italian racing team, which competed in the World Rally Championship and Formula 1, it was mainly connected to brands like Lancia and Alfa Romeo. It was created in 1957 in Milan by idea of Mario Angiolini, the team won several championships. The team´s main sponsor was Totip so the cars used orange and green colors on their livery until the World Rally Championship 1996.

Drivers

The team's most successful drivers were:

Alessandro Fiorio, 8 races and World Champion 4WD Group N with a Lancia Delta in 1987.

Dario Cerrato, 41 runs between the European Championships and Italian and European Champion in 1985 with a Lancia 037.

Miki Biasion, 32 races in World Championships and European Jolly Club and twice world rally champion with Martini Racing, also won the 1983 European Championship and the Italian Championship.

The team also competed in other drivers like: Roberto Businello, Arnaldo Cavallari, Sandro Munari, Lele Pinto, Amilcare Balestrieri, Tony Carello, Andrea Zanussi, Gianfranco Cunico,Tonino Tognana Italian Rally Champion 1982 with a Ferrari 308 GTB, Adartico Vudafieri, Italian Rally Champion in 1984 and Michele Rayneri, winner of Gr.B class in 1987 with the same car,the Lancia 037. Many others srivers run with Jolly Club Team. The Jolly Club one of the most important rally teams from Italy, because it lets a lot of young drivers run.
