The European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT), with a main mirror 39 metres in diameter, will be the largest optical/near-infrared telescope in the world: truly the world’s biggest eye on the sky. It will be constructed in northern Chile, on a site that has already been prepared. The contract to build the telescope’s dome and structure was signed by ESO’s Director General, Tim de Zeeuw, the Chairman of Astaldi, Paolo Astaldi, and the President of Cimolai, Luigi Cimolai. ESO was delighted to welcome Italy’s Minister of Education, Universities and Research, H.E. Stefania Giannini, to the ceremony, which was also attended by the Italian Consul General in Munich, Renato Cianfarani, the ESO Council President, Patrick Roche, and the Italian ESO Council Delegates, Nicolò D’Amico (who is also Pr...
The Atacama desert in Chile is famous for nothing: no water, no plants, no animals. That makes it a perfect place for astronomy, and the ideal location to build the European Extremely Large Telescope, or E-ELT, the world's largest ever optical and infrared telescope. The first stage of construction is destruction, namely blowing up the top of a mountain. On 19 June 2014, a major milestone on the road to the construction of the European Extremely Large Telescope was reached. Part of the 3000-metre peak of Cerro Armazones was blasted away as a step towards levelling the summit. This paves the way for the largest optical/infrared telescope in the world. The European Southern Observatory has given the green light to the E-ELT (European Extremely Large Telescope). Construction will last 10 years, in the north of Chile. The E-ELT will be in 2024 the world's largest optical telescope, almost 4 times larger than the largest at present: the Spanish Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC) More info at https://www.bbvaopenmind.com/en
The European Extremely Large Telescope, or E-ELT for short, will be by far the largest optical and near-infrared telescope in the world. In early December 2014 the ESO Council gave the go-ahead for the first construction phase of the telescope. This is the official trailer for the E-ELT, the European Extremely Large Telescope. Read more about the project on the link below. http://www.eso.org/public/teles-instr/e-elt.html Credit: ESO Extremely Large Telescopes are considered worldwide as one of the highest priorities in ground-based astronomy. They will vastly advance astrophysical knowledge, allowing detailed studies of subjects including planets around other stars, the first objects in the Universe, super-massive black holes, and the nature and distribution of the dark matter and dark energy which dominate the Universe.

É lei la donna mia, é lei
che non potró lasciare mai
perché ora lo so
per l'eternitá il nostro amore durerá.
É lei la donna mia, é lei
e a tutto il mondo grideró
che tutta la mia vita, la mia felicitá
é lei, é lei, é lei . . .
To you, I give my heart completely,
To you, my love, forevermore,
All that I possess,
My life and nothin' less,
I offer humbly at your door!
To me, you bring a glimpse of heaven,
The world I really never knew,
And in return I'll give,
As long as I may live,
Devotion, only to you!
