Bad Moon is a 1996 American horror film written and directed by Eric Red and produced by James G. Robinson. The plot involves a family man who struggles to overcome the curse of lycanthropy. It stars Michael Paré, Mariel Hemingway and Mason Gamble.
The film is based on the novel Thor by Wayne Smith, which mainly tells the story from the dog's viewpoint. Thor was published in the United States (Thomas Dunne/St. Martin's Press hardback, Ballantine paperback), and in the U.K., Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Norway, in German, Dutch, Swedish and Norwegian. Bad Moon received poor reviews and was a box office bomb.
While making love in their tent during a work expedition in Nepal, photo-journalists Ted Harrison (Michael Paré) and his girlfriend Marjorie are attacked by a werewolf. The werewolf snatches Marjorie and Ted attempts to rescue her but gets bitten in his shoulder and thrown to the ground. Hurt but determined he crawls to his shotgun and manages to shoot the werewolf's head off but not before the beast kills Marjorie.
Eric Red (born Eric Joseph Durdaller; February 16, 1961) is an American screenwriter and director, best known for writing the horror films The Hitcher and Near Dark.
Red was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Nancy (née Pickhardt) and Cornelius Gerard Durdaller. He attended the AFI Conservatory and graduated in 1983.
The first film written by Red was Gunmen's Blues, a short he produced and directed while a student at the AFI Conservatory. He went broke trying to get national distribution for the film and had to drive a cab in New York for a year to recoup.
His AFI thesis script, The Hitcher, was produced in 1986. A major studio remake of The Hitcher was released in 2007 with Red as a consultant. He wrote the original script to Lost Boys: The Tribe and narrated the film at the 2010 Screamfest Horror Film Festival in Los Angeles.
Eric Red published his first novel, Don't Stand So Close, in 2011.
Red was found to be at fault in a car accident that caused two deaths after he drove his truck into a crowded bar in Los Angeles on May 31, 2000. After the accident, Red apparently exited his vehicle, picked up a piece of broken glass and slit his own throat.
Mariel Hadley Hemingway (born November 22, 1961) is an American actress and author. She began acting at age 14 in a breakout role in Lipstick (1976) and received Best Supporting Actress Academy Award and BAFTA Award nominations for her role in Woody Allen's Manhattan (1979). She is also known for her roles in Personal Best (1982), Star 80 (1983) and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987).
She has starred in and co-produced videos about yoga and holistic living. She published a memoir in 2002, and another, Out Came the Sun, in 2015.
Hemingway was born in Mill Valley, California, the third daughter of Byra Louise Hemingway (née Whittlesey; January 5, 1922 – June 24, 1988) and Jack Hemingway, a writer. Her sisters are Joan Hemingway (born 1950) and Margaux Hemingway (1954–1996). Margaux, who became an actress and model, died of a barbiturate overdose in 1996 at age 42.
Her paternal grandparents were Hadley Richardson and Nobel Prize-laureate novelist Ernest Hemingway (who committed suicide several months before she was born). She was named after the Cuban port of Mariel—her father and grandfather visited the village regularly to go fishing. Her middle name was her paternal grandmother's.
Kenneth Pogue (July 26, 1934 – December 15, 2015) was a Canadian actor.
His first motion picture role in 1973 was in The Neptune Factor. He almost drowned in scuba gear.
He worked on stage at the Crest Theatre, Stratford Shakespeare Festival, St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts and Guthrie Theater in the 1960s through 1980s before moving to television and film. His other film credits include The Silent Partner (1978), Lost and Found (1979), Virus (1980), Suzanne (1980), The Grey Fox (1982), The Dead Zone (1983, as the vice president), Dead of Winter (1987), Crazy Moon (1987), and The Hitman (1991), starring Chuck Norris. He was also Father Dominic in the 2006 film The Mermaid Chair.
One of his memorable roles is Gerrard in CTV's pilot of Due South in 1994. It aired on CBS in the United States. Pogue reprised his character in the Season 2 episode "Bird in the Hand" where Constable Benton Fraser (Paul Gross) is forced to choose duty or vengeance.
He was married to the actress Diana Barrington. Pogue died of cancer ten days before Christmas in 2015.
Mason Wilson Gamble (born January 16, 1986) is an American actor known for his portrayal of Dennis Mitchell in the 1993 film Dennis the Menace, a role he got after beating out a reported 20,000 children who had auditioned, and as Jason Schwartzman's sidekick, Dirk Calloway, in Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson's critically acclaimed 1998 film Rushmore. He also appeared in Anya's Bell with Della Reese, starring as a dyslexic boy. In 1999, Gamble portrayed Brady Lang in the thriller Arlington Road.
