The Chief Constable of South Yorkshire Police, David Crompton, has been suspended. Yesterday he "unequivocally" accept the conclusions of the Hillsborough inquest jury - but South Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner says he's been left with no choice because of the "erosion of public trust and confidence".
The jury in the Hillsborough Inquests has returned its verdicts this morning (Tuesday 26 April 2016).
A majority verdict was returned to Question 6 - the ‘Determination of Unlawful Killing issue’. The jury determined that 96 people were killed unlawfully.

The new chief constable of North Yorkshire wasted no time in making his presence felt after helping to detain a man just hours into his first shift.
Chief Constable Dave Jones was visiting Catterick Garrison Police Station as part of a tour of the county, when reports of a man being assaulted in Richmond town centre were radioed in at around 12.50am on Monday 3 June 2013.
Chief Constable Jones attended the scene of the incident, where local officers had stopped three men in their 20s. At this point, one of the suspects ran off towards Station Bank and onto station Road.
Chief Constable Jones gave chase on foot with other officers and they were directed by CCTV operators to where the suspect was last seen.
During a search of the area the suspect was spotted down an alleyway climbing over a wall. Chief Constable Jones went after him in company with another officer who arrested him on suspicion of affray.
The other two men were also arrested in connection with the incident.
Chief Constable Jones said: "It was important for me to get out and see the officers on the ground as soon as possible and it was good to be able to muck in with them so soon into my first shift!
"It was great to get involved, though, and it was good to be out there with them on the front line.
"Fortunately, the rest of my first shift was a bit quieter and I was able to get around the rest of the county and meet some of the officers and our partners who help to make North Yorkshire and the City of York one of the safest places in the country."
Sgt Simon Gannon, of North Yorkshire Police, said: "It was great to see the new Chief Constable getting out and about and responding to calls with local officers."
Catterick Garrison was the first stop for Chief Constable Jones who started his first shift with North Yorkshire Police at 12 midnight on Monday 3 June 2013. He responded to a suspected drink driver at Tesco in the Garrison before moving on to meet the Royal Military Police at the police station they share with local officers.
He then stopped off at the station's CCTV room before attending the incident in Richmond.
The next stop was Harrogate Police Station where he was shown round the new custody suite before heading to York for a visit to the Force Control Room.
Chief Constable Jones met the on-duty control room Chief Inspector and thanked the Richmond controllers for their great work in assisting the incident he had been involved in earlier in the night.
He also met officers from North Yorkshire Police's Armed Response Unit and called into meet the night duty Detective Sgt in York CID.
Next he travelled east to Scarborough and then on to Northallerton for their 7am briefing.
By 7.30am Chief Constable Jones was settling into his new office at the Force's headquarters, in Newby Wiske, and preparing for his introduction to the region's media back in Northallerton at 1pm.
Following the press conference, Chief Constable Jones had a very productive meeting with the Police and Crime Commissioner Julia Mulligan.
In all, Chief Constable Jones covered 190 miles during his first shift.

This case related to whether the police were liable in negligence and/or in relation to article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights in respect of the death of a woman, Miss Michael, following the mishandling of 999 calls she made on the night she was killed. The police accept that the handling of the calls was seriously defective. Miss Michael’s estate and family raised claims in negligence and in terms of article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights against the two police forces involved. At first instance, the claims were allowed to proceed but the Court of Appeal awarded summary judgment in favour of the police on the negligence claim and ruled that the Article 2 ECHR claim should proceed to trial. The appellants appealed to the Supreme Court on the negligence claim and the respondents appealed against the Court of Appeal decision on the Article 2 ECHR claim.
The Supreme Court dismisses the Appellants’ appeal by a majority of 5-2 (Lady Hale and Lord Kerr dissenting) and unanimously dismisses the Respondents’ cross-appeal. Lord Toulson (with whom Lord Neuberger, Lord Mance, Lord Reed and Lord Hodge agree) gives the lead judgment. Lady Hale and Lord Kerr give separate judgments both allowing the Appellants’ appeal (in dissent) and dismissing the Respondent’s cross-appeal.

Chief Constable Jerry Graham has spoken out against proposals for further cuts which would leave policing in Cumbria “unrecognisable”. If these cuts were to be finalised Cumbria would lose the highest proportion of our budget out of all the forces in England and Wales.
The cuts would mean the end of policing in Cumbria as we know it, and would result in “serious degrading of policing for the county”.

Chris Eyre (b. 1968 in Portland, Oregon), an enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes, is a film director and producer.

A police officer (also known as a policeman or policewoman, and constable in some forces, particularly in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth nations) is a warranted employee of a police force. In the United States, "officer" is the formal name of the lowest police rank; in many other countries "officer" is a generic term not specifying a particular rank, and the lowest rank is often "constable". Police officers are generally charged with the apprehension of criminals and the prevention and detection of crime, and the maintenance of public order. Police officers may be sworn to an oath, and have the power to arrest people and detain them for a limited time, along with other duties and powers.
Some police officers may also be trained in special duties, such as counter-terrorism, surveillance, child protection, VIP protection, and investigation techniques into major crime, including fraud, rape, murder and drug trafficking.

The new chief constable of North Yorkshire wasted no time in making his presence felt after helping to detain a man just hours into his first shift. Chief Constable Dave Jones was visiting Catterick Garrison Police Station as part of a tour of the county, when reports of a man being assaulted in Richmond town centre were radioed in at around 12.50am on Monday 3 June 2013. Chief Constable Jones attended the scene of the incident, where local officers had stopped three men in their 20s. At this point, one of the suspects ran off towards Station Bank and onto station Road. The new chief constable of North Yorkshire wasted no time in making his presence felt after helping to detain a man just hours into his first shift.
Chief Constable Dave Jones was visiting Catterick Garrison Police Station as part of a tour of the county, when reports of a man being assaulted in Richmond town centre were radioed in at around 12.50am on Monday 3 June 2013.
Chief Constable Jones attended the scene of the incident, where local officers had stopped three men in their 20s. At this point, one of the suspects ran off towards Station Bank and onto station Road.
Chief Constable Jones gave chase on foot with other officers and they were directed by CCTV operators to where the suspect was last seen.
During a search of the area the suspect was spotted down an alleyway climbing over a wall. Chief Constable Jones went after him in company with another officer who arrested him on suspicion of affray.
The other two men were also arrested in connection with the incident.
Chief Constable Jones said: "It was important for me to get out and see the officers on the ground as soon as possible and it was good to be able to muck in with them so soon into my first shift!
"It was great to get involved, though, and it was good to be out there with them on the front line.
"Fortunately, the rest of my first shift was a bit quieter and I was able to get around the rest of the county and meet some of the officers and our partners who help to make North Yorkshire and the City of York one of the safest places in the country."
Sgt Simon Gannon, of North Yorkshire Police, said: "It was great to see the new Chief Constable getting out and about and responding to calls with local officers."
Catterick Garrison was the first stop for Chief Constable Jones who started his first shift with North Yorkshire Police at 12 midnight on Monday 3 June 2013. He responded to a suspected drink driver at Tesco in the Garrison before moving on to meet the Royal Military Police at the police station they share with local officers.
He then stopped off at the station's CCTV room before attending the incident in Richmond.
The next stop was Harrogate Police Station where he was shown round the new custody suite before heading to York for a visit to the Force Control Room.
Chief Constable Jones met the on-duty control room Chief Inspector and thanked the Richmond controllers for their great work in assisting the incident he had been involved in earlier in the night.
He also met officers from North Yorkshire Police's Armed Response Unit and called into meet the night duty Detective Sgt in York CID.
Next he travelled east to Scarborough and then on to Northallerton for their 7am briefing.
By 7.30am Chief Constable Jones was settling into his new office at the Force's headquarters, in Newby Wiske, and preparing for his introduction to the region's media back in Northallerton at 1pm.
Following the press conference, Chief Constable Jones had a very productive meeting with the Police and Crime Commissioner Julia Mulligan.
In all, Chief Constable Jones covered 190 miles during his first shift.

This case related to whether the police were liable in negligence and/or in relation to article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights in respect of the death of a woman, Miss Michael, following the mishandling of 999 calls she made on the night she was killed. The police accept that the handling of the calls was seriously defective. Miss Michael’s estate and family raised claims in negligence and in terms of article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights against the two police forces involved. At first instance, the claims were allowed to proceed but the Court of Appeal awarded summary judgment in favour of the police on the negligence claim and ruled that the Article 2 ECHR claim should proceed to trial. The appellants appealed to the Supreme Court on the negligence claim and the respondents appealed against the Court of Appeal decision on the Article 2 ECHR claim.
The Supreme Court dismisses the Appellants’ appeal by a majority of 5-2 (Lady Hale and Lord Kerr dissenting) and unanimously dismisses the Respondents’ cross-appeal. Lord Toulson (with whom Lord Neuberger, Lord Mance, Lord Reed and Lord Hodge agree) gives the lead judgment. Lady Hale and Lord Kerr give separate judgments both allowing the Appellants’ appeal (in dissent) and dismissing the Respondent’s cross-appeal.

Greater Manchester Police officers made 24 arrests after a series of raids were launched on Wednesday 9 September 2015.
More than 200 officers executed warrants at 25 addresses in the continued crackdown on serious organised crime in Salford under Project Gulf. Gulf is part of Programme Challenger, the Greater Manchester approach to tackling organised criminality across the region.
The raids are the result of an intelligence-led operation conducted over a number of months by the Serious Crime Division, into offences such as supplying firearms and drugs. Searches at a number of properties are still ongoing.
Deputy Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said:
“Today’s raids have been a great success for the force, its partners and most importantly, the communities of Salford.
“The fight against serious organised crime in Greater Manchester is stronger than ever, thanks to round-the-clock disruption under Programme Challenger and our specialist divisional teams such as Project Gulf, who work on the ground to detect and destroy this criminality.
“Rest assured this is not a one-off, this is a sustained campaign to protect vulnerable people and bring those who exploit them to justice.
“We have not, and will not, reduce our commitment to targeting serious organised crime in Salford. We will continue to use all of the powers and information available to us and our partners to locate this criminality and put a stop to it for good.”
Greater Manchester Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd said:
“Today’s action sends a strong and clear message to criminals that we will not allow them to instil fear in our communities – you will be hunted down and you will be brought to justice.
“This builds on the positive work to tackle organised crime across Salford, bringing together police, council, other agencies, and, importantly, residents who are proud of where they live. I urge local people to continue to support this work and help us build a stronger, safer Salford.”

Greater Manchester Police officers made 24 arrests after a series of raids were launched on Wednesday 9 September 2015.
More than 200 officers executed warrants at 25 addresses in the continued crackdown on serious organised crime in Salford under Project Gulf. Gulf is part of Programme Challenger, the Greater Manchester approach to tackling organised criminality across the region.
The raids are the result of an intelligence-led operation conducted over a number of months by the Serious Crime Division, into offences such as supplying firearms and drugs. Searches at a number of properties are still ongoing.
Deputy Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said:
“Today’s raids have been a great success for the force, its partners and most importantly, the communities of Salford.
“The fight against serious organised crime in Greater Manchester is stronger than ever, thanks to round-the-clock disruption under Programme Challenger and our specialist divisional teams such as Project Gulf, who work on the ground to detect and destroy this criminality.
“Rest assured this is not a one-off, this is a sustained campaign to protect vulnerable people and bring those who exploit them to justice.
“We have not, and will not, reduce our commitment to targeting serious organised crime in Salford. We will continue to use all of the powers and information available to us and our partners to locate this criminality and put a stop to it for good.”
Greater Manchester Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd said:
“Today’s action sends a strong and clear message to criminals that we will not allow them to instil fear in our communities – you will be hunted down and you will be brought to justice.
“This builds on the positive work to tackle organised crime across Salford, bringing together police, council, other agencies, and, importantly, residents who are proud of where they live. I urge local people to continue to support this work and help us build a stronger, safer Salford.”
