Bake sale and competition, food demos, True Earth vegan craft market, BBQ, stalls and entertainment. Enter your cake to win!

Once again we’re taking part in the Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale! On Sunday April 26 from 11am-5pm, at CERES Environment Park, Cnr Roberts and Stewart Streets, Brunswick East. Come along and enjoy some yummy donated baked goodies, enter your masterpiece into the bake off to win some great prizes, stock up at the ALV and Uproar stalls, grab something from the BBQ and watch some awesome cooking demos!

Organic vegan wines and beer is available from 9am-4pm at The Merri Table and must be consumed at the cafe. Read the Vegan Wine And Beer List before purchase.

Bring a picnic rug with you and make a day of it!

Bring your furry friend! Dogs on leads are welcome at CERES.

Due to popular demand we have moved the Bake Sale to a bigger venue and we are combining it with True Earth Market, which is holding a 100% vegan craft market where dozens of stallholders will offer unique, handmade arts and crafts for sale.

Our special guest for the Bake Sale is vegan fireman and food blogger David McArthur Nightingale of “A fist full of hummus, recipes of an unconventional vegan”. Fire fighter Dave will run a cooking demonstration at 1pm and judge the savoury entries.

Entry by gold coin donation. Please bring cash because there will be no ATM on site.

Sustainability: ALV’s vegan bake sale will use biodegradable plant-based plates, forks and napkins. Please help us by bringing your own reusable coffee cup and water bottle.

WE’VE GOT YOUR COVERED

Come rain or shine we’ve got you covered for the Bake Sale this Sunday! The stage, stalls, café and a hangout area will all be under cover. We are also extending cake registrations from 11am-1pm. Bring an umbrella with you and rug up so you can enjoy the sweet treats, cooking demonstrations, stalls and sugar comas. Please bring takeaway containers with you if you would like to buy cake to take home and remember this is all in the name of a good cause – to raise funds to save animals.

PROGRAM

  • 11am – Register your cake entries at the registration table from 11am-1pm, wander around the craft market, enjoy food and drinks at the stalls and grab a spot by the stage with your picnic blanket
  • 12pm – Food demo: Naty of Las Vegan cafe in Collingwood and Big Sky Sanctuary will show you how to make protein-packed vegan sausages using everyday pantry essentials. Big Sky is home to many animals rescued by ALV who are now able to live our their natural lives happy and free, including their newest resident gorgeous George the pig
  • 1pm – Food demo: Vegan fire fighter and food blogger David McArthur Nightingale will show you how to make an amazing coconut fetta
  • 2pm – Food demo: Jo Osborne of Forest Haven B&B and Animal Liberation Victoria will show off how to make one of her popular desserts – a 10 minute cheesecake
  • 3pm – Winners announced and prizes presented. The judges for the Vegan Bake-off competition are:
    Lucy Stegley AKA SmoothieGirl (RAW CATEGORY) – founder of the community health organisation Raw Events who host the world’s best local and international wholefood plant-based chefs, experts and educators

    Missy (RAW CATEGORY), chef at Magic Milk Bar and Raw Sisters, We Love Life Festival founder, Wild Fire magazine editor and professional photographer

    David McArthur Nightingale – Fire fighter and vegan food blogger from A fist full of hummus, recipes of an unconventional vegan
    Zoe of Vegan Mum, who is raising three happy, healthy lifelong vegan children who are 14, 13, and 2 and has plenty of great advice and ideas after 24 years of veganism
    Noah Hannibal – President of Animal Liberation Victoria, vegan powerlifter and professional eater.
  • 4pm – Food demo: Grace of Wild Yam Health Food Cafe and instagram @thehappycleanvegan with Evelyn of food blog @nourishnotpunish will share a delicious recipe for fructose friendly bliss balls and a smoothie
  • 5pm – Close

OTHER ACTIVITIES

  • 9am onwards – True Earth Market is holding a special 100% vegan market for the day where you can pick up one-of-a-kind arts and crafts
  • 11am onwards – Vegan business stalls open, music and entertainment kicks off
  • 12pm onwards – Vegan BBQ and baked goods for sale. Proudly sponsored by Plant Based Foods. We want to give a huge thank you to Plant Based Foods for their incredible generosity in donating ALL the Tofurky sausages for the bake sale!
  • 2.30pm-3pm – Volunteer information session. Learn more about helping animals by volunteering for ALV
  • 11am-5pm – DJ Myke Love will spin the decks and keep the beat going all day long. Myke is a DJ, producer & events manager. He co-founded the We Love Life Festival to unite and inspire kindred spirits to live life with love and compassion.

BAKE SALE AND RAFFLE PRIZES

More than $2,000 in prizes are up for grabs!

Your back sale entry will help us raise funds for animals – all entries will be sold at the Bake Sale along with cakes from businesses, volunteers and plates donated by people on the day. Categories for the bake off are: cakes and cupcakes, other baked goods (eg: cookies, slices, sweet pies, etc), savoury, raw, gluten free. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third in each category, plus an Overall Winner/ President’s Award. Check out the full prize list here!

There will also be a mega raffle draw with an additional $1,000 in prizes. Up for grabs is a $100 Megapet voucher, a Syndian gift hamper, Compassionate Kitchen vouchers, Lucky Pet vouchers, a box of ice cream and butter from Half Pint Vegan Dairy, ice cream from Cocofrio, vouchers from Brunswick Holistic Health and more. HOW TO ENTER

The categories for the vegan Bake Off are:

1. Cakes and Cupcakes
2. Other baked goods (eg: cookies, slices, sweet pies,etc.)
3. Savoury
4. Raw
5. Gluten free

Enter as many times as you like. One dish can be entered into multiple categories if applicable (e.g. raw and savoury). Entries will be served at room temperature and should not require refrigeration or heating.

To enter the bake off, register your entry on the day between 11am-1pm. The registration table will be located at the front entrance of the event. Please bring a list of all ingredients used in your entry so that we can advise people of any allergens. All entrants and people donating food for sale will be asked to sign a form.

What plate should I put my cake on? All plates will be labelled and you can pick up your plate when you leave. Otherwise, we encourage you to put your entry on a recyclable plate/tray or on a plate that you are happy to leave behind.

Judging criteria: Entries will be judged on:

-Name of creation
-Presentation
-Texture
-Flavour balance
-Creative flair

At the judges’ discretion we may also give away prizes for ‘highly commended’ entries that achieve one of the following: best icing, best garnish, best use of tiers and more.

*Conditions of Entry: Entries must be made with only vegan (i.e. non animal) ingredients. We ask that no alcoholic ingredients are used.

TRUE EARTH MARKET

True Earth Market is a regular feature at CERES Environment Park and as a special one-off they will be holding a 100% vegan arts and crafts market to complement ALV’s vegan Bake Sale.

HOW TO GET THERE

Location: CERES Environment Park, Cnr Roberts and Stewart Streets, Brunswick East

The Bake Sale will be held in the Energy Park at the front entrance of CERES.

How to get there:

Tram: Take the Number 96 tram to East Brunswick from the city (from Bourke St, travelling up Nicholson St) all the way to the end of the line (the intersection of Blyth and Nicholson Streets). CERES is about a 5 minute walk from the tram stop. Turn right down Blyth St (which becomes Arthurton Rd) and take the second street on the left (Roberts St) – CERES is about 100m up Roberts St on the right – you can’t miss it. Turn right at Lee St and walk in.

Bus: Take the 503 Essendon to East Brunswick bus. Departs from Essendon Station and runs via Russell St, Napier St, Brewster St, Pascoe Vale Rd, Albion Street, Nicholson St, Stewart St, Roberts St and Arthurton Rd to the terminus at the corner of Blyth and Ryan St. Get off at the Lee St stop and you’re right out the front.

Car: Limited parking is available on site. Parking is also available on side streets (please read the street signs) and in the Cretan Brotherhood car park on Stewart Street.

Walk/Cycle: The Merri Creek bike path runs along the edge of CERES, so it’s very accessible for walkers and cyclists. You can enter via the gate closest to the Blyth St/Arthurton Road bridge in Brunswick East. Simply follow the green council signs along the path to CERES. The Merri Creek Bike Path also connects to the Capital City Trail.
