A kennel is a structure or shelter for dogs or cats. Used in the plural, the kennels, the term means any building, collection of buildings or a property in which dogs or cats are housed, maintained, and (though not in all cases) bred. A kennel can be made out of various materials, the most popular being wood and canvas.
This is a formal establishment for the propagation of animals, whether or not they are actually housed in a separate shed, the garage, a state-of-the-art facility, or the family dwelling. Licensed breeding kennels are heavily regulated and must follow relevant government legislation. Breed club members are expected to comply with general Code of Ethics and guidelines applicable to the breed concerned. Kennel council's may also stipulate criteria to be met before issuing registration papers for puppies bred. A kennel name or kennel prefix is a name associated with each breeding kennel: it is the first part of the registered name of a pedigreed dog which was bred there. Likewise, a cat registry is an organization that registers cats for exhibition and breeding purposes. A cat registry is not the same as a cat club or breed society (these may be affiliated with one or more registries with whom they have lodged breed standards in order to be able to exhibit under the auspices of that registry).
Chantilly is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in western Fairfax County in Northern Virginia. A portion of Chantilly is located within the South Riding, Virginia CDP located to the immediate west, but within Loudoun County, Virginia. The Chantilly CDP population was 23,039 as of the 2010 census. Chantilly is named after an early-19th-century mansion and farm, which in turn took the name of an 18th-century plantation that was located in Westmoreland County, Virginia. The name "Chantilly" originated in France with the Château de Chantilly, about 25 miles north of Paris.
Chantilly is part of the Washington metropolitan area and is approximately 25 miles (39 km) from Washington, D.C., via Interstate 66. The Chantilly CDP is centrally located between Centreville, Virginia to the Southwest, Herndon, Virginia and Reston, Virginia, to the North and Northeast, respectively, and Fairfax, Virginia, which is approximately 5 miles to the East. Chantilly neighbors U.S. Route 50 and Virginia State Route 28, which provide access to the Dulles/Reston/Tysons Corner technology corridor and other major employment centers in Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. The Chantilly CDP is also less than 4 milles west of Fair Lakes, Virginia, which includes the Eastern Market at Fair Lakes, Fair Lakes Promenade, The Shops at Fair Lakes, and the Fair Oaks Mall.

South Riding has several meanings:
The expression dog days refers to the hot, sultry days of summer, originally in areas around the Mediterranean Sea, and as the expression fit, to other areas, especially in the Northern Hemisphere.
The coincidence of very warm temperatures in the early civilizations in North Africa and the Near East with the rising, at sunrise (i.e., the heliacal rising), of Orion's dog, the dog star Sirius, led to the association of this phrase with these conditions, an association that traces to the Egyptians and appears in the ancient written poetic and other records of the Greeks (e.g., Hesiod and Aratus) and the later Romans (including Homer, in The Iliad).
The expression is used in prose literature, poetry, and song and album titles.
The dog days are the hottest, most uncomfortable part of the Northern summer. The American weather and farming annual, The Old Farmer's Almanac, explains that "[t]he phrase 'Dog Days' conjures up the hottest, most sultry days of summer," coinciding with the heliacal rising of Sirius, the dog star, in the constellation Canis Major. While the correlation between the hottest and most humid weather of the year with this specific calendar period has not survived the broadening of weather understanding and communications to global, the correlation of the rising of Sirius with extreme heat has been sufficient in enough climes in the Northern Hemisphere such that the association of dog days "with hot, sultry weather was made for all time."
