DERANGED: Richard Speck (SERIAL KILLER CRIME DOCUMENTARY)
In 1966, Richard Speck committed one of the most horrifying mass murders in American history when he brutalized and killed eight student nurses living on Chicago's South Side.
Richard Speck captured the nation's attention during the summer of 1966 after murdering eight female students who lived together on Chicago's South Side. Before then, he had been responsible for other acts of violence against his family and others but had a knack for escaping the police. After his killing spree in 1966, a manhunt ensued and he was captured two days later. He spent the rest of his life in prison until he died of a heart attack in 1991 at age 49.

Preparation:
Mix all the spices and crush them with a pestle and mortar. Portion the pork loin or belly as desired and apply 50 g of the mixed spices (curing mixture, per kg of meat) to the meat and rub well from all sides.
Put every single piece of meat in freezer bags and place them in the fridge. Cure them for 7 days per kg. The optimal temperature is between 4 and 6°C (39-42°F).
Very important is to turn the meat every 2nd day, to ensure that it cures equally.
After the 7 days (per kg), rinse off the excess salt under cold water and blot dry the meat. Put it back to the fridge, this time without a bag, and let it air dry for 2 days.
Place the cured meat in the smokehouse, or any container, which is suitable for cold smoking, and smoke (not higher than 25°C / 77°F) the meat for 5 – 7 days, depending on which intensity of smoke and colour you like.
Very important is that the future Speck needs a 12 h break after 12 h of smoking (one day of smoking consists of 12 h smoke and 12 h break).
Finally hang the Speck at a cool and aired place and let it ripen for 2-3 weeks.

If you are looking for a completely clear case to showcase your brand new iPhone 6s Plus (especially the new Rose Gold color), the new Speck CandyShell Clear is definitely worth considering. Crafted from a new, soft acrylic bonded to a polycarbonate outer shell, the CandyShell Clear is specifically designed to resist the yellowing that typically occurs with clear TPU and TPE, and has a special scratch resistant coating as well. However, this case isn't just only about good looks--it also meets or exceeds military drop test standards and has a nicely sized lip around the screen which should do a good job in protecting your phone's vulnerable screen.
Pros:
* Looks great on your iPhone 6s Plus: if you have the Rose Gold color, it is especially nice.
* Mil-Spec rated: it should protect your phone from up to a 4 foot drop—perhaps more!
* Slips easily into pockets and bags: smooth outer texture should slide easily in and out of your pocket or handbag.
* Nicely sized port openings: in the usual Speck fashion, the port openings are well sized and shouldn’t give you any trouble with third party lightning cables or headphones.
*Nice, clicky buttons: the power and volume buttons are a pleasure to press.
Cons:
* Rather hard to install: due to the sticky texture of the lining of the case, it is harder than usual to slide your phone into it. For those people used to a typical Speck install experience, it is a bit surprising. According to Speck, however, this stickiness will diminish over time.
* Dust can adhere to inner lining: the slight stickiness of the soft acrylic lining the CandyShell Clear makes it easy for dust particles to get attached to it, and then be visible through the clear backing of the case. I found it helpful to lightly dab at the inner lining with a bit of tape to remove a few dust specks prior to installing the case. (Note: According to Speck's new FAQ on this subject, the best way to remove any inner dust prior to installation is to rinse the case under room temperature running water and let air dry before putting it on your phone)
* Not much grip: this case has about the same amount of grip as a regular CandyShell case, which is to say—not much. If you are you looking for a grippy case, you’d be better off with the CandyShell Grip or the MightyShell…but then, you wouldn’t be able to show off your pretty new iPhone 6s Plus as well. Ah, tradeoffs…
Conclusion: Overall, this is probably the most attractive clear case with drop protection I’ve come across for the iPhone 6s Plus. The fact that it is designed to resist yellowing and scratching—the two major issues with clear cases— is a huge mark in its favor. Unfortunately, the special new soft acrylic that makes this attractive case possible is also somewhat sticky and makes it more difficult to take the case on and off and also will make it more likely to trap dust and smudges inside. (According to Speck's new FAQ, however, this stickiness is a mark of recent production and will diminish over time, and any dust and smudges can be removed by rinsing the case under room temperature water and letting it air dry prior to putting it on the phone). Overall, it is a great case and should do a wonderful job protecting your iPhone 6s Plus while showing off its beauty. The CandyShell Clear is available from Speck as well as from Amazon and various other retailers and retails for $39.95 for the iPhone 6s Plus version:

Today we’re going to review the Speck MightyShell with Faceplate. This is one of Specks tougher cases and is a way better case than the Candyshell but its really not that “Mighty”.
The best thing about this case is the actual Faceplate. This is one of the best screen protectors that we have ever used on an iPhone. The MightyShell with faceplate is fairly slim and feels solid and for the most part, will protect your iPhone from daily accidental drops. Most of the time.
Based on our time with the case we gave it a score 4.2 Eh’s out of 5 but there’s a big caveat with this score . At this score, this slimmer tough case is one of our higher rated cases, beating out Specks own Candyshell and is comparable to the Incipio DualPro and Urban Armor Gear.
In terms of design the Speck Mightyshell is decently sized. Its not as thin as other though cases such as the Thule Atmos X3 and will add a bit of bulk to your iPhone. With that being said, the Mightyshell does feel very well built and we’re impressed with the back of the case as it has a matte look which doesn’t attract scratches like the back of the regular Candyshell.
In terms of protection, despite being marketed as a tough case, with words like 2X military grade protective design and 360 degree protection, we feel that this case doesn’t provide anymore protection than a Griffin Survivor Slim or Incipio Dual Pro. It sounds great on paper but if you really want to know how high you can actually drop it, you can’t. Clicking on the image will do nothing but give you carpal tunnel syndrome. And this is the big caveat. This case didn’t really protect our iPhone 6 Plus drops.
We dropped our MightyShell from 6 ft and ended with the iPhone coming apart.
Now, with all that aside, the faceplate portion of the MightyShell is really awesome but just as a headsup, not all Faceplates are the same. The one for our iPhone 6 is slightly different and the small difference really lessens the awesomeness.
According to Speck, the screen protector offers 2X shatter protection and has 4 layers of awesome stuff. From what I can tell you, our screen didn’t break at 18 inches so this screen protector will do a decent job of keeping your iPhone safe. But this isn’t the awesomeness, its the functionality of your iPhone under this screen protector that makes a world of difference.
The screen protector is sticky which means there are no gaps between your finger and screen protector so your iPhone’s screen sensitivity is maintained. The notch at the bottom, above the Touch ID allows you to easily access your swipe menus and because the screen protector is sticky, you’re not going to have dusting problems where dust collects around the touch ID sensor. You’ll notice that the iPhone 6 Faceplate that we have doesn’t have this notch.
In terms of viewability, this is one of the best screen protectors that we’ve used. The clarity of your iPhone’s HD screen is maintained and there is no additional glare or reflections. I really hope that Speck goes and license this screen protector technology out because its just so good.
In terms of actually getting to your iPhone, access to the buttons is fairly easy, you have a small cutout for the mute switch and you’re able to use slightly larger than average cables. We do have to mention that the case does feel a little slicker as the back is fairly smooth so there’s not much to hold onto when using your iPhone with one hand. The edges of the case are a bit rubbery but the MightyShell doesn’t come close to the handling that the Speck CandyShell Grip provides.
So that’s all I got for the Speck MightyShell, again, we gave it a score of 4.2 Eh’s out of 5. This is a better than average iPhone case but it is a little pricier at $60 dollars per case. If you’re looking for something that’s actually tough, maybe consider spending and extra 20-30 dollars and get a case that will actually protect your iPhone like the LifeProof Nuud.

Here's what we got for the Speck CandyShell Review for the iPhone 6. This is a pretty popular iPhone case, probably because its sold right in the Apple store but with the Speck Candyshell, it feels like I put my iPhone into a bowl.
The best part of the Speck Candyshell is that it allows you to use your iPhone 6 fairly easily but that shouldn’t be the best part of a slim case. That actually should be the default a slim iPHone case.
What’s not great about this case is the build quality of the case and the fact that Speck says its drop tested but is it really. They’ve got a nice logo saying it is.
With all that being said, we gave the Speck Candyshell a score of 4 Eh’s out of 5. This case is better than your Otterbox Commuter and Symmetry cases but’s not as good as a Spigen Tough Armor or Urban Armor Case. I’ll elaborate on that more in a bit.
For me, I found the Speck Candyshell show wear and tear quite easily. When you take the case out of the packaging, it’s this shiny, glossy looking case but then you put it in your pocket and take it out immediately and it looks like you bought a second hand case. The glossy nature of the Speck also seems to a wonderful repository for your naturally occurring hair and face oil so if after a day, it feels a little greasy.
Now, on top of that, the case is a little more difficult to install when compared to other cases so you end up flexing the case a bit more and we’ve noticed that certain parts of the case seem to show that wear and tear from taking your iPhone in and out of the case.
The protection aspect of the Speck, or of Speck in generally also annoys a bit. On our channel, we generally like to drop our iPhones in cases. With the Speck Candyshell, the website and packaging has lots of logos saying that their cases are drop rated. Cool. How high Nothing on their website said anything about actually heights. They do say Mil-STD-810G though so I’m assuming 4 ft. Maybe 6 but I don’t know.
So those are the features or annoyances that stand out the most to me about the Speck Candyshell. I’m going to take a few more minutes and talk about the Functionality of the iPhone inside the case as well as explain why I feel that my iPhone sits in a bowl with this case. If you’d rather read about those features, check out our website which has all this information in a easy to read comparison table.
In terms of design, the SpeckCandyshell is fairly slim. In terms of screen protection, the Speck Candysehll has some pretty significant edges which extends approx. 1/8 inch past the touch screen. This edges is pretty significant when compared to other cases so the screen protection is going to be better on this case. However, Speck does not include a screen protector for this case. Boo urns.
In terms of functionaliy, you can easily get to your iPhone 6 in this case. However, because of the glossy nature of this case, the grippiness of the case is a bit lacking. If you’re got really sweaty palms, this case might not be for you.
I’m a little bothered by the edges of the case which is why I say it feels like my iPhone sits in a bowl. The edges, though they provide great screen protection, are high and feel like they get in the way of the iPhone. In reality they don’t as getting to Q and P on your keyboard. These edges bothered me so much that I went and looked at our speck case for the 5S and noticed that the edges are as high but they’re further from the edge of the touchscreen so I wasn’t as bothered by it. So if you think these edges might bother you, then check out the Spigen Tough Armor and i might actually suggest taking a look at the Otterbox Symmetry as well.

Speck is a distinctively juniper-flavored ham originally from Tyrol, a historical region that since 1918 partially lies in Italy. Speck's origins at the intersection of two culinary worlds is reflected in its synthesis of salt-curing and smoking.
The first historical mention of Speck was in the early 13th century when some of the current production techniques were already in use. Südtiroler Speck (Italian: Speck Alto Adige) is now a protected geographic designation with PGI status.
In parts of the English-speaking culinary world, the term "speck" refers to Italian speck, a type of prosciutto, rather than German speck, which is identical to the Italian "lardo". The term "speck" became part of popular parlance only in the eighteenth century and replaced the older term "bachen", a cognate of "bacon".
Other varieties with geographical indications include:
Like prosciutto and other hams, speck is made from the hind leg of the pig, but, unlike other prosciutti, speck is deboned before curing.
A leg of pork is deboned and divided into large sections called "baffe", and then cured in salt and one of various spice combinations, which may include garlic, bay leaves, juniper berries, nutmeg, and other spices, and then rested for a period of several weeks. After this, the smoking process begins.

Portion the pork loin or belly as desired and apply 50 g of the mixed spices (curing mixture, per kg of meat) to the meat and rub well from all sides. Put every single piece of meat in freezer bags and place them in the fridge. Cure them for 7 days per kg. The optimal temperature is between 4 and 6°C (39-42°F). Very important is to turn the meat every 2nd day, to ensure that it cures equally. After the 7 days (per kg), rinse off the excess salt under cold water and blot dry the meat. Put it back to the fridge, this time without a bag, and let it air dry for 2 days. Place the cured meat in the smokehouse, or any container, which is suitable for cold smoking, and smoke (not higher than 25°C / 77°F) the meat for 5 – 7 days, depending on which intensity of smoke and colour you like. Very important is that the future Speck needs a 12 h break after 12 h of smoking (one day of smoking consists of 12 h smoke and 12 h break). Finally hang the Speck at a cool and aired place and let it ripen for 2-3 weeks. Enjoy and stay tuned! If you are looking for a completely clear case to showcase your brand new iPhone 6s Plus (especially the new Rose Gold color), the new Speck CandyShell Clear is definitely worth considering. Crafted from a new, soft acrylic bonded to a polycarbonate outer shell, the CandyShell Clear is specifically designed to resist the yellowing that typically occurs with clear TPU and TPE, and has a special scratch resistant coating as well. However, this case isn't just only about good looks--it also meets or exceeds military drop test standards and has a nicely sized lip around the screen which should do a good job in protecting your phone's vulnerable screen. Pros: * Looks great on your iPhone 6s Plus: if you have the Rose Gold color, it is especially nice. * Mil-Spec rated: it should protect your phone from up to a 4 foot drop—perhaps more! * Slips easily into pockets and bags: smooth outer texture should slide easily in and out of your pocket or handbag. * Nicely sized port openings: in the usual Speck fashion, the port openings are well sized and shouldn’t give you any trouble with third party lightning cables or headphones. *Nice, clicky buttons: the power and volume buttons are a pleasure to press. Cons: * Rather hard to install: due to the sticky texture of the lining of the case, it is harder than usual to slide your phone into it. For those people used to a typical Speck install experience, it is a bit surprising. According to Speck, however, this stickiness will diminish over time. * Dust can adhere to inner lining: the slight stickiness of the soft acrylic lining the CandyShell Clear makes it easy for dust particles to get attached to it, and then be visible through the clear backing of the case. I found it helpful to lightly dab at the inner lining with a bit of tape to remove a few dust specks prior to installing the case. (Note: According to Speck's new FAQ on this subject, the best way to remove any inner dust prior to installation is to rinse the case under room temperature running water and let air dry before putting it on your phone) * Not much grip: this case has about the same amount of grip as a regular CandyShell case, which is to say—not much. If you are you looking for a grippy case, you’d be better off with the CandyShell Grip or the MightyShell…but then, you wouldn’t be able to show off your pretty new iPhone 6s Plus as well. Ah, tradeoffs… Conclusion: Overall, this is probably the most attractive clear case with drop protection I’ve come across for the iPhone 6s Plus. The fact that it is designed to resist yellowing and scratching—the two major issues with clear cases— is a huge mark in its favor. Unfortunately, the special new soft acrylic that makes this attractive case possible is also somewhat sticky and makes it more difficult to take the case on and off and also will make it more likely to trap dust and smudges inside. (According to Speck's new FAQ, however, this stickiness is a mark of recent production and will diminish over time, and any dust and smudges can be removed by rinsing the case under room temperature water and letting it air dry prior to putting it on the phone). Overall, it is a great case and should do a wonderful job protecting your iPhone 6s Plus while showing off its beauty. This is one of Specks tougher cases and is a way better case than the Candyshell but its really not that “Mighty”. The best thing about this case is the actual Faceplate. This is one of the best screen protectors that we have ever used on an iPhone. The MightyShell with faceplate is fairly slim and feels solid and for the most part, will protect your iPhone from daily accidental drops. Most of the time. Based on our time with the case we gave it a score 4.2 Eh’s out of 5 but there’s a big caveat with this score . At this score, this slimmer tough case is one of our higher rated cases, beating out Specks own Candyshell and is comparable to the Incipio DualPro and Urban Armor Gear. In terms of design the Speck Mightyshell is decently sized. Its not as thin as other though cases such as the Thule Atmos X3 and will add a bit of bulk to your iPhone. With that being said, the Mightyshell does feel very well built and we’re impressed with the back of the case as it has a matte look which doesn’t attract scratches like the back of the regular Candyshell. In terms of protection, despite being marketed as a tough case, with words like 2X military grade protective design and 360 degree protection, we feel that this case doesn’t provide anymore protection than a Griffin Survivor Slim or Incipio Dual Pro. It sounds great on paper but if you really want to know how high you can actually drop it, you can’t. Clicking on the image will do nothing but give you carpal tunnel syndrome. And this is the big caveat. This case didn’t really protect our iPhone 6 Plus drops. We dropped our MightyShell from 6 ft and ended with the iPhone coming apart. Now, with all that aside, the faceplate portion of the MightyShell is really awesome but just as a headsup, not all Faceplates are the same. The one for our iPhone 6 is slightly different and the small difference really lessens the awesomeness. According to Speck, the screen protector offers 2X shatter protection and has 4 layers of awesome stuff. From what I can tell you, our screen didn’t break at 18 inches so this screen protector will do a decent job of keeping your iPhone safe. But this isn’t the awesomeness, its the functionality of your iPhone under this screen protector that makes a world of difference. The screen protector is sticky which means there are no gaps between your finger and screen protector so your iPhone’s screen sensitivity is maintained. The notch at the bottom, above the Touch ID allows you to easily access your swipe menus and because the screen protector is sticky, you’re not going to have dusting problems where dust collects around the touch ID sensor. You’ll notice that the iPhone 6 Faceplate that we have doesn’t have this notch. In terms of viewability, this is one of the best screen protectors that we’ve used. The clarity of your iPhone’s HD screen is maintained and there is no additional glare or reflections. I really hope that Speck goes and license this screen protector technology out because its just so good. In terms of actually getting to your iPhone, access to the buttons is fairly easy, you have a small cutout for the mute switch and you’re able to use slightly larger than average cables. We do have to mention that the case does feel a little slicker as the back is fairly smooth so there’s not much to hold onto when using your iPhone with one hand. The edges of the case are a bit rubbery but the MightyShell doesn’t come close to the handling that the Speck CandyShell Grip provides. So that’s all I got for the Speck MightyShell, again, we gave it a score of 4.2 Eh’s out of 5. This is a better than average iPhone case but it is a little pricier at $60 dollars per case. If you’re looking for something that’s actually tough, maybe consider spending and extra 20-30 dollars and get a case that will actually protect your iPhone like the LifeProof Nuud. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe to stay in the loop! This is a pretty popular iPhone case, probably because its sold right in the Apple store but with the Speck Candyshell, it feels like I put my iPhone into a bowl. The best part of the Speck Candyshell is that it allows you to use your iPhone 6 fairly easily but that shouldn’t be the best part of a slim case. That actually should be the default a slim iPHone case. What’s not great about this case is the build quality of the case and the fact that Speck says its drop tested but is it really. They’ve got a nice logo saying it is. With all that being said, we gave the Speck Candyshell a score of 4 Eh’s out of 5. This case is better than your Otterbox Commuter and Symmetry cases but’s not as good as a Spigen Tough Armor or Urban Armor Case. I’ll elaborate on that more in a bit. For me, I found the Speck Candyshell show wear and tear quite easily. When you take the case out of the packaging, it’s this shiny, glossy looking case but then you put it in your pocket and take it out immediately and it looks like you bought a second hand case. The glossy nature of the Speck also seems to a wonderful repository for your naturally occurring hair and face oil so if after a day, it feels a little greasy. Now, on top of that, the case is a little more difficult to install when compared to other cases so you end up flexing the case a bit more and we’ve noticed that certain parts of the case seem to show that wear and tear from taking your iPhone in and out of the case. The protection aspect of the Speck, or of Speck in generally also annoys a bit. On our channel, we generally like to drop our iPhones in cases. With the Speck Candyshell, the website and packaging has lots of logos saying that their cases are drop rated. Cool. How high Nothing on their website said anything about actually heights. They do say Mil-STD-810G though so I’m assuming 4 ft. Maybe 6 but I don’t know. So those are the features or annoyances that stand out the most to me about the Speck Candyshell. I’m going to take a few more minutes and talk about the Functionality of the iPhone inside the case as well as explain why I feel that my iPhone sits in a bowl with this case. If you’d rather read about those features, check out our website which has all this information in a easy to read comparison table. In terms of design, the SpeckCandyshell is fairly slim. In terms of screen protection, the Speck Candysehll has some pretty significant edges which extends approx. 1/8 inch past the touch screen. This edges is pretty significant when compared to other cases so the screen protection is going to be better on this case. However, Speck does not include a screen protector for this case. Boo urns. In terms of functionaliy, you can easily get to your iPhone 6 in this case. However, because of the glossy nature of this case, the grippiness of the case is a bit lacking. If you’re got really sweaty palms, this case might not be for you. I’m a little bothered by the edges of the case which is why I say it feels like my iPhone sits in a bowl. The edges, though they provide great screen protection, are high and feel like they get in the way of the iPhone. In reality they don’t as getting to Q and P on your keyboard. These edges bothered me so much that I went and looked at our speck case for the 5S and noticed that the edges are as high but they’re further from the edge of the touchscreen so I wasn’t as bothered by it. So if you think these edges might bother you, then check out the Spigen Tough Armor and i might actually suggest taking a look at the Otterbox Symmetry as well. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe to stay in the loop! Plot: Hal Roach, who no longer owned the rights to his "Our Gang" (aka The Little Rascals") creation, decided to "create" a similar gang of kids, to be known as "Curley and his Gang", and star them in feature-length films shot in Cinecolor. This film is the first effort, and is virtually a remake, with longer running time, of the 1930 "Our Gang" short, "Teacher's Pet." The kids are fretting because their favorite teacher has gotten married and departed town, and they fear her replacement will be not to their liking. When Curley mistakes the aunt of the new replacement as being the new teacher, he and the rest of the kids make plans to discourage her staying. Mortification sets in when the new teacher turns out to be sweet, young and pretty. Jackie Cooper and June Marlowe had the smitten kid/teacher roles in the original. Robert F. McGowan, who directed and wrote the original short, gets story credit here, and was also the Associate Producer.

Preparation:
Mix all the spices and crush them with a pestle and mortar. Portion the pork loin or belly as desired and apply 50 g of the mixed spices (curing mixture, per kg of meat) to the meat and rub well from all sides.
Put every single piece of meat in freezer bags and place them in the fridge. Cure them for 7 days per kg. The optimal temperature is between 4 and 6°C (39-42°F).
Very important is to turn the meat every 2nd day, to ensure that it cures equally.
After the 7 days (per kg), rinse off the excess salt under cold water and blot dry the meat. Put it back to the fridge, this time without a bag, and let it air dry for 2 days.
Place the cured meat in the smokehouse, or any container, which is suitable for cold smoking, and smoke (not higher than 25°C / 77°F) the meat for 5 – 7 days, depending on which intensity of smoke and colour you like.
Very important is that the future Speck needs a 12 h break after 12 h of smoking (one day of smoking consists of 12 h smoke and 12 h break).
Finally hang the Speck at a cool and aired place and let it ripen for 2-3 weeks.

If you are looking for a completely clear case to showcase your brand new iPhone 6s Plus (especially the new Rose Gold color), the new Speck CandyShell Clear is definitely worth considering. Crafted from a new, soft acrylic bonded to a polycarbonate outer shell, the CandyShell Clear is specifically designed to resist the yellowing that typically occurs with clear TPU and TPE, and has a special scratch resistant coating as well. However, this case isn't just only about good looks--it also meets or exceeds military drop test standards and has a nicely sized lip around the screen which should do a good job in protecting your phone's vulnerable screen.
Pros:
* Looks great on your iPhone 6s Plus: if you have the Rose Gold color, it is especially nice.
* Mil-Spec rated: it should protect your phone from up to a 4 foot drop—perhaps more!
* Slips easily into pockets and bags: smooth outer texture should slide easily in and out of your pocket or handbag.
* Nicely sized port openings: in the usual Speck fashion, the port openings are well sized and shouldn’t give you any trouble with third party lightning cables or headphones.
*Nice, clicky buttons: the power and volume buttons are a pleasure to press.
Cons:
* Rather hard to install: due to the sticky texture of the lining of the case, it is harder than usual to slide your phone into it. For those people used to a typical Speck install experience, it is a bit surprising. According to Speck, however, this stickiness will diminish over time.
* Dust can adhere to inner lining: the slight stickiness of the soft acrylic lining the CandyShell Clear makes it easy for dust particles to get attached to it, and then be visible through the clear backing of the case. I found it helpful to lightly dab at the inner lining with a bit of tape to remove a few dust specks prior to installing the case. (Note: According to Speck's new FAQ on this subject, the best way to remove any inner dust prior to installation is to rinse the case under room temperature running water and let air dry before putting it on your phone)
* Not much grip: this case has about the same amount of grip as a regular CandyShell case, which is to say—not much. If you are you looking for a grippy case, you’d be better off with the CandyShell Grip or the MightyShell…but then, you wouldn’t be able to show off your pretty new iPhone 6s Plus as well. Ah, tradeoffs…
Conclusion: Overall, this is probably the most attractive clear case with drop protection I’ve come across for the iPhone 6s Plus. The fact that it is designed to resist yellowing and scratching—the two major issues with clear cases— is a huge mark in its favor. Unfortunately, the special new soft acrylic that makes this attractive case possible is also somewhat sticky and makes it more difficult to take the case on and off and also will make it more likely to trap dust and smudges inside. (According to Speck's new FAQ, however, this stickiness is a mark of recent production and will diminish over time, and any dust and smudges can be removed by rinsing the case under room temperature water and letting it air dry prior to putting it on the phone). Today we’re going to review the Speck MightyShell with Faceplate. This is one of Specks tougher cases and is a way better case than the Candyshell but its really not that “Mighty”.
The best thing about this case is the actual Faceplate. This is one of the best screen protectors that we have ever used on an iPhone. The MightyShell with faceplate is fairly slim and feels solid and for the most part, will protect your iPhone from daily accidental drops. Most of the time.
Based on our time with the case we gave it a score 4.2 Eh’s out of 5 but there’s a big caveat with this score . At this score, this slimmer tough case is one of our higher rated cases, beating out Specks own Candyshell and is comparable to the Incipio DualPro and Urban Armor Gear.
In terms of design the Speck Mightyshell is decently sized. Its not as thin as other though cases such as the Thule Atmos X3 and will add a bit of bulk to your iPhone. With that being said, the Mightyshell does feel very well built and we’re impressed with the back of the case as it has a matte look which doesn’t attract scratches like the back of the regular Candyshell.
In terms of protection, despite being marketed as a tough case, with words like 2X military grade protective design and 360 degree protection, we feel that this case doesn’t provide anymore protection than a Griffin Survivor Slim or Incipio Dual Pro. It sounds great on paper but if you really want to know how high you can actually drop it, you can’t. Clicking on the image will do nothing but give you carpal tunnel syndrome. And this is the big caveat. This case didn’t really protect our iPhone 6 Plus drops.
We dropped our MightyShell from 6 ft and ended with the iPhone coming apart.
Now, with all that aside, the faceplate portion of the MightyShell is really awesome but just as a headsup, not all Faceplates are the same. The one for our iPhone 6 is slightly different and the small difference really lessens the awesomeness.
According to Speck, the screen protector offers 2X shatter protection and has 4 layers of awesome stuff. From what I can tell you, our screen didn’t break at 18 inches so this screen protector will do a decent job of keeping your iPhone safe. But this isn’t the awesomeness, its the functionality of your iPhone under this screen protector that makes a world of difference.
The screen protector is sticky which means there are no gaps between your finger and screen protector so your iPhone’s screen sensitivity is maintained. The notch at the bottom, above the Touch ID allows you to easily access your swipe menus and because the screen protector is sticky, you’re not going to have dusting problems where dust collects around the touch ID sensor. You’ll notice that the iPhone 6 Faceplate that we have doesn’t have this notch.
In terms of viewability, this is one of the best screen protectors that we’ve used. The clarity of your iPhone’s HD screen is maintained and there is no additional glare or reflections. I really hope that Speck goes and license this screen protector technology out because its just so good.
In terms of actually getting to your iPhone, access to the buttons is fairly easy, you have a small cutout for the mute switch and you’re able to use slightly larger than average cables. We do have to mention that the case does feel a little slicker as the back is fairly smooth so there’s not much to hold onto when using your iPhone with one hand. The edges of the case are a bit rubbery but the MightyShell doesn’t come close to the handling that the Speck CandyShell Grip provides.
So that’s all I got for the Speck MightyShell, again, we gave it a score of 4.2 Eh’s out of 5. This is a better than average iPhone case but it is a little pricier at $60 dollars per case. If you’re looking for something that’s actually tough, maybe consider spending and extra 20-30 dollars and get a case that will actually protect your iPhone like the LifeProof Nuud.

Today we’re going to review the Speck MightyShell with Faceplate. This is one of Specks tougher cases and is a way better case than the Candyshell but its really not that “Mighty”.
The best thing about this case is the actual Faceplate. This is one of the best screen protectors that we have ever used on an iPhone. The MightyShell with faceplate is fairly slim and feels solid and for the most part, will protect your iPhone from daily accidental drops. Most of the time.
Based on our time with the case we gave it a score 4.2 Eh’s out of 5 but there’s a big caveat with this score . At this score, this slimmer tough case is one of our higher rated cases, beating out Specks own Candyshell and is comparable to the Incipio DualPro and Urban Armor Gear.
In terms of design the Speck Mightyshell is decently sized. Its not as thin as other though cases such as the Thule Atmos X3 and will add a bit of bulk to your iPhone. With that being said, the Mightyshell does feel very well built and we’re impressed with the back of the case as it has a matte look which doesn’t attract scratches like the back of the regular Candyshell.
In terms of protection, despite being marketed as a tough case, with words like 2X military grade protective design and 360 degree protection, we feel that this case doesn’t provide anymore protection than a Griffin Survivor Slim or Incipio Dual Pro. It sounds great on paper but if you really want to know how high you can actually drop it, you can’t. Clicking on the image will do nothing but give you carpal tunnel syndrome. And this is the big caveat. This case didn’t really protect our iPhone 6 Plus drops.
We dropped our MightyShell from 6 ft and ended with the iPhone coming apart.
Now, with all that aside, the faceplate portion of the MightyShell is really awesome but just as a headsup, not all Faceplates are the same. The one for our iPhone 6 is slightly different and the small difference really lessens the awesomeness.
According to Speck, the screen protector offers 2X shatter protection and has 4 layers of awesome stuff. From what I can tell you, our screen didn’t break at 18 inches so this screen protector will do a decent job of keeping your iPhone safe. But this isn’t the awesomeness, its the functionality of your iPhone under this screen protector that makes a world of difference.
The screen protector is sticky which means there are no gaps between your finger and screen protector so your iPhone’s screen sensitivity is maintained. The notch at the bottom, above the Touch ID allows you to easily access your swipe menus and because the screen protector is sticky, you’re not going to have dusting problems where dust collects around the touch ID sensor. You’ll notice that the iPhone 6 Faceplate that we have doesn’t have this notch.
In terms of viewability, this is one of the best screen protectors that we’ve used. The clarity of your iPhone’s HD screen is maintained and there is no additional glare or reflections. I really hope that Speck goes and license this screen protector technology out because its just so good.
In terms of actually getting to your iPhone, access to the buttons is fairly easy, you have a small cutout for the mute switch and you’re able to use slightly larger than average cables. We do have to mention that the case does feel a little slicker as the back is fairly smooth so there’s not much to hold onto when using your iPhone with one hand. The edges of the case are a bit rubbery but the MightyShell doesn’t come close to the handling that the Speck CandyShell Grip provides.
So that’s all I got for the Speck MightyShell, again, we gave it a score of 4.2 Eh’s out of 5. This is a better than average iPhone case but it is a little pricier at $60 dollars per case. If you’re looking for something that’s actually tough, maybe consider spending and extra 20-30 dollars and get a case that will actually protect your iPhone like the LifeProof Nuud.

Here's what we got for the Speck CandyShell Review for the iPhone 6. This is a pretty popular iPhone case, probably because its sold right in the Apple store but with the Speck Candyshell, it feels like I put my iPhone into a bowl.
The best part of the Speck Candyshell is that it allows you to use your iPhone 6 fairly easily but that shouldn’t be the best part of a slim case. That actually should be the default a slim iPHone case.
What’s not great about this case is the build quality of the case and the fact that Speck says its drop tested but is it really. They’ve got a nice logo saying it is.
With all that being said, we gave the Speck Candyshell a score of 4 Eh’s out of 5. This case is better than your Otterbox Commuter and Symmetry cases but’s not as good as a Spigen Tough Armor or Urban Armor Case. I’ll elaborate on that more in a bit.
For me, I found the Speck Candyshell show wear and tear quite easily. When you take the case out of the packaging, it’s this shiny, glossy looking case but then you put it in your pocket and take it out immediately and it looks like you bought a second hand case. The glossy nature of the Speck also seems to a wonderful repository for your naturally occurring hair and face oil so if after a day, it feels a little greasy.
Now, on top of that, the case is a little more difficult to install when compared to other cases so you end up flexing the case a bit more and we’ve noticed that certain parts of the case seem to show that wear and tear from taking your iPhone in and out of the case.
The protection aspect of the Speck, or of Speck in generally also annoys a bit. On our channel, we generally like to drop our iPhones in cases. With the Speck Candyshell, the website and packaging has lots of logos saying that their cases are drop rated. Cool. How high Nothing on their website said anything about actually heights. They do say Mil-STD-810G though so I’m assuming 4 ft. Maybe 6 but I don’t know.
So those are the features or annoyances that stand out the most to me about the Speck Candyshell. I’m going to take a few more minutes and talk about the Functionality of the iPhone inside the case as well as explain why I feel that my iPhone sits in a bowl with this case. In terms of functionaliy, you can easily get to your iPhone 6 in this case. However, because of the glossy nature of this case, the grippiness of the case is a bit lacking. If you’re got really sweaty palms, this case might not be for you.
I’m a little bothered by the edges of the case which is why I say it feels like my iPhone sits in a bowl. The edges, though they provide great screen protection, are high and feel like they get in the way of the iPhone. In reality they don’t as getting to Q and P on your keyboard. These edges bothered me so much that I went and looked at our speck case for the 5S and noticed that the edges are as high but they’re further from the edge of the touchscreen so I wasn’t as bothered by it. So if you think these edges might bother you, then check out the Spigen Tough Armor and i might actually suggest taking a look at the Otterbox Symmetry as well.

The new Speck CandyShell Clear and Inked Luxury Edition the iPhone 6 is a welcomed update to their original line of CandyShell cases. Getting rid of the glossy plastic backs with a cool graphic and a matte finish, it now offers users an alternative to the scratch and fingerprint prone originals.
Costing a little more, it's well worth the price if you like one of their designs or decide to go naked with the new all rubber CandyShell Clear case.
We thoroughly tested the graphics and they don't fade or scratch very easily, making it a decent investment. Unfortunately, matte texture does mean it's on the slippery side.

The new Speck CandyShell Clear and Inked Luxury Edition the iPhone 6 is a welcomed update to their original line of CandyShell cases. Getting rid of the glossy plastic backs with a cool graphic and a matte finish, it now offers users an alternative to the scratch and fingerprint prone originals.

Today we’re going to be reviewing the Speck Candyshell Grip. I was a little hesitant to review it since I didn’t have a great experience with the regular Candyshell since my screen died in it but I’m blown away by the Grip. I really do like this case.
The best part of this case is the grip which is really important when it comes to handling your iPhone 6 plus in one hand. The design of the case, though almost identical to the Candyshell is better but some might find the edges to get in the way on the 6 version and the back is still a magnet for scratches.
Based on our time with the case, we gave it a score of 4.2 Eh’s out of 5. This is a decent case and ranks up there with the Urban Armor Gear and the Incipio Dual Pro but still falls short to the Griffin Survivor Core and Thule Atmos X3. This isn’t the highest rated iPhone 6 case but I do feel that this may be the case to get and I’ll explain that to you in a bit. At MobileReviews Eh, we base our reviews on actual usage so we’ll use the cases for a while to see how much we like it and then compare against a plethora of other cases so that we can give you guys the best, most consistent review possible.
In terms of design, the Grip is close to doubling the thickness of your iPhone and adds a minimal amount of bulk to your iPhone in terms of width. The case fits well together but if you’re dropping it on concrete, will show a bit of wear and tear. The edges of the case are far enough to use 3rd party edge to edge screen protectors. The glossy part of the case will show wear and tear just as quickly as a regular CandyShell but the rubber grips takes your eyes away from the awfulness of the scratches.
In terms of protection, the Speck CandyShell, according to Speck is drop tested to meet or exceed military standards but don’t say how high you can drop it. From our guess, your iPhone is going to protected from a 4ft drop but you wouldn’t get that from Speck’s page since clicking on their link for the MIL-STD-810G brings up a popup with nonsense that includes molten lava. How comfortable are we in dropping the case? Pretty comfortable.
The edges of the case are quite so it will give your iPhone’s touchscreen a bit of clearnace which is necessary since Speck doesn’t include a screen protector with the case. The SpeckCandyShell fits tightly around the iPhone that you’re not going to get lots of dust and debris between the case and iPhone.
In terms of functionality, this is where the Grip shines. You can easily use 3rd Party headphones and cables. The buttons are easily accessed through the case and the edges of the case don’t get in the way of accessing your swipe menus. We will note that users of the 6 version may find the edges get in the way due to the smaller screen and since we’re talking about the screen, there’s nothing there so screen viewability is top-notch.
So at the beginning of the video, I mentioned that this case is worth getting over higher rated cases like the Thule Atmos X and Survivor Core because of the grip parts of the case. You will feel incredibly safe holding onto your iPhone inside of this case. The differences between the three cases lies in how high you can drop it, the Core and Atmos can be dropped from 6 ft and handle just a minute amount better than the CandyShell Grip. From my experience, you’re going to be able to find a Speck case easier than a Atmos X3 or Core in a big box store.
