A. R. Rahman

Allah-Rakha Rahman ( pronunciation , born A. S. Dileep Kumar on 6 January 1967) is an Indian composer, singer-songwriter, music producer, musician and philanthropist. Rahman's works are noted for integrating Eastern classical music with electronic music, world music and traditional orchestral arrangements. Among his awards are two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe, four National Film Awards, fifteen Filmfare Awards and thirteen Filmfare Awards South. Rahman's body of work for film and stage has given him the nickname of "the Mozart of Madras", and Tamil commentators and fans call him Isai Puyal (English: the Musical Storm).

In 2009, Time included Rahman on its list of the world's most influential people. The UK-based world-music magazine Songlines named him one of "Tomorrow's World Music Icons" in August 2011.

With an in-house studio (Panchathan Record Inn in Chennai) Rahman's film-scoring career began during the early 1990s with the Tamil film Roja. Working in India's film industries, international cinema and theatre, Rahman is one of the world's all-time best-selling recording artists. In a notable two-decade career, he has been acclaimed for redefining contemporary Indian film music and contributing to the success of several films. Rahman has become a notable humanitarian and philanthropist, donating and raising money for a number of causes and charities.

In modern parlance, the term gentleman (from Latin gentilis, belonging to a race or gens, and man, the Italian gentil uomo or gentiluomo, the French gentilhomme, the Spanish gentilhombre, and the Portuguese homem gentil) refers to any man of good, courteous conduct. It may also refer to all men collectively, as in indications of gender-separated facilities, or as a sign of the speaker's own courtesy when addressing others. The modern female equivalent is lady.

In its original meaning, the term denoted a man of the lowest rank of the English gentry, standing below an esquire and above a yeoman. By definition, this category included the younger sons of the younger sons of peers and the younger sons of baronets, knights, and esquires in perpetual succession, and thus the term captures the common denominator of gentility (and often armigerousness) shared by both constituents of the English aristocracy: the peerage and the gentry. In this sense, the word equates with the French gentilhomme ("nobleman"), which latter term has been, in Great Britain, long confined to the peerage. Maurice Keen points to the category of "gentlemen" in this context as thus constituting "the nearest contemporary English equivalent of the noblesse of France". The notion of "gentlemen" as encapsulating the members of the hereditary ruling class was what the rebels under John Ball in the 14th century meant when they repeated:

Vidwan S.Shankar (born 1950) is a popular karnatic vocalist, the disciple of his mother Smt.Rajamma Sastry and also Smt.Nagarathna bai & Smt Vallabham Kalyana sundaram. A performer for more than four decades, he is an ‘a top’ grade artist of A.I.R & Doordarshan.

He participated in the national programme of music over A.I.R. And D.D. In 1998 & 2007 and also in the Radio Sangeetha Sammelan in 1992 and 2004 at Mumbai.

He won the first prize in A.I.R. competition in 1973, Best Musician Award by the Bangalore Gayana Samaj & the Best young musician award by The Music Academy, Chennai. He has performed all over the country and at many places in the U.S. He has conducted music workshops at Bharatiya vidya bhavan in London & has performed at the venue too.. He has performed jugal bandhi concerts with Hindustani vocalists.

He is endowed with a sturdy voice & his rendering of raga is mellifluous & enthralling. His repertoire consists of the compositions of the trinity, Swathi Thirunal, Patnam Subrahmanya iyer, Jayachamarajendra wodeyer, Mysore vasudevachar, Mayuram Vishwanatha Sastry, Papanasam sivan, D.V.Gundappa, Padmacharan & Haidasas.His rendering of slokas is unique.
