City-based premier engineering institute College of Engineering has offered to mentor the MIT Academy of Engineering, Alandi, which was recently conferred academic autonomy by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Having signed a Memoran-dum of Understanding (MOU), CoEP will now help MIT-AOE to achieve academic excellence and strengthen research activity for five years. Signed by the two heads of institutions, Dr B B Ahuja, director, CoEP and Dr Y J Bhalerao, principal, MIT-AOE, the MOU would be useful for students and teachers to improve quality of research through collaborative programmes.
Other initiatives planned under the MoU include joint research proposals (to be submitted to various funding agencies at the national and international level), joint consultancy projects (from industry and R&D organisations), utilisation of research labs, design and delivery of elective subjects, credit transfer for students and considering faculty for admission to M.Tech. & Ph.D. programmes.
Both heads of institutes said that they hope to make collaborative efforts to establish Centres of Excellence and research programmes of mutual interest besides allowing regular student-faculty exchange.
