Check out this great sci-fi short film that takes a slightly different take on the post apocalyptic genre as after the end of the world, Merv's life in the lonely wastes is comfortably boring until an unexpected signal heralds the coming of a dangerous stranger, created by the talented Matt Inns! For more information, please see the credits below.
The outstanding production value in this film is amazing given that it was shot for only a few hundred dollars, over a couple of weekends. The idea was to make a slightly different kind of sci fi story that focussed more on a character, so the vfx was treated in a subtle and basic way to support that. All the vfx work was done simply with After Effects, Maya and Photoshop. The film was shot in Southland, New Zealand.

Q: Why haven't you made new videos since 2013?
A: My local RC track facility was forced to move a long ways away. Meanwhile, nearly every open space in my heavily populated area is explicitly, legally off-limits to RCs and regularly patrolled by rangers and/or police and I've been kicked out too many times. I have absolutely NO good place to legally drive & film within a reasonable distance and there is nothing I can do to change this.
Q: Will you come back to RC?
A: Most likely no.
Q: Why did you disable comments on existing videos on this channel?
A: You know, *most* RC hobbyists are cool folks. YouTube though, harbors an extraordinarily large population of the most vitriolic, extremist brand loyalists & haters who make it their life's purpose for weeks at a time to develop and then spread the most ridiculous fabricated stories to try to tear down a guy who happened upon a little success & popularity as a result of working hard & sharing something he loves to do. I don't have time for that mess; I choose focus on the good stuff in life.

This is stunning quality compared to what we had earlier and we're thrilled to have found the original master and that this important piece of American history is now preserved in pristine condition. Kudos to DC Video in L.A. for their stellar work. In this segment Dr. King shares with Merv his take on the then-current state of the Civil Rights movement in America. Merv (Persian: مرو, Marv), formerly Achaemenid Satrapy of Margiana, and later Alexandria and Antiochia in Margiana (Greek: Αντιόχεια της Μαργιανής), was a major oasis-city in Central Asia, on the historical Silk Road, located near today's Mary in Turkmenistan. Several cities have existed on this site, which is significant for the interchange of culture and politics at a site of major strategic value. It is claimed that Merv was briefly the largest city in the world in the 12th century. The site of ancient Merv has been listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. (See List of World Heritage Sites in Turkmenistan)
Merv's origins are prehistoric: archaeological surveys have revealed many survivals of village life as far back as the 3rd millennium BC. Under the name of Mouru, Merv is mentioned with Bakhdi (Balkh) in the geography of the Zend-Avesta (commentaries on the Avesta). Under the Achaemenid dynasty Merv is mentioned as being a place of some importance: under the name of Margu it occurs as part of one of the satrapies in the Behistun inscriptions (ca 515 BC) of the Persian monarch Darius Hystaspis. The ancient city appears to have been re-founded by Cyrus the Great (559 - 530 BC), but the Achaemenid levels are deeply covered by later strata at the site. Andy Warhol (August 6, 1928 – February 22, 1987) was an American artist who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture and advertisement that flourished by the 1960s. After a successful career as a commercial illustrator, Warhol became a renowned and sometimes controversial artist. The Andy Warhol Museum in his native city, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, holds an extensive permanent collection of art and archives. It is the largest museum in the United States of America dedicated to a single artist.
Andy Warhol's artwork ranged in many forms of media that include hand drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, silk screening, sculpture, film, and music. He was a pioneer in computer-generated art using Amiga computers that were introduced in 1985, just before his death in 1987. He founded Interview Magazine and was the author of numerous books, including The Philosophy of Andy Warhol and Popism: The Warhol Sixties. Andy Warhol is also notable as a gay man who lived openly as such before the gay liberation movement. His studio, The Factory, was a famous gathering place that brought together distinguished intellectuals, drag queens, playwrights, Bohemian street people, Hollywood celebrities, and wealthy patrons. Warhol has been the subject of numerous retrospective exhibitions, books, and feature and documentary films. He coined the widely used expression "15 minutes of fame". Many of his creations are very collectible and highly valuable. The highest price ever paid for a Warhol painting is US$100 million for a 1963 canvas titled Eight Elvises. The private transaction was reported in a 2009 article in The Economist, which described Warhol as the "bellwether of the art market". Warhol's works include some of the most expensive paintings ever sold.

Jerome Allen "Jerry" Seinfeld (born April 29, 1954) is an American stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and television and film producer, best known for playing a semi-fictional version of himself in the sitcom Seinfeld (1989–1998), which he co-created and co-wrote with Larry David, and, in the show's final two seasons, co-executive-produced.
In his first major foray back into the media since the finale of Seinfeld, he co-wrote and co-produced the film Bee Movie, also taking on the lead role of Barry B. Benson. In February 2010, Seinfeld premiered a reality TV series called The Marriage Ref on NBC. Seinfeld directed Colin Quinn in the Broadway show Long Story Short at the Helen Hayes Theater in New York which ran until January 8, 2011.
Seinfeld is known for specializing in observational humor, often focusing on personal relationships and uncomfortable social obligations. Comedy Central ranked Jerry Seinfeld as one of the twelve greatest stand-up comedians of all time in its four-part special The 100 Greatest Standups Of All Time.

"Salam,
der zweite Ausflug von Mary fuehrte nach Merv, welches eine bedeutende Seidenstrassenstadt und islamische Stadt war, um 1000-1200 so bedeutend wie Damaskus oder Bagdad. Es soll ausserdem kurzfristig die groesste Stadt der Welt gewesen sein, und auch der Ort wo 1001 Nacht entstanden sein soll. Dummerweise hat der Herrscher der Stadt einen Abgesandten von Dschingis Khan ermordet statt Tribut zu zahlen, woraufhin die Armee von Dschingis Khan die Stadt erorbert hat (sie hat sich kampflos ergeben...) und alle Einwohner ermordet hat (1,3 Millionen Menschen!). Merv hat sich davon nicht mehr so recht erholt, auch wenn noch einmal eine kleine Stadt entstandt. Heute gibt es nur noch ein paar Huetten...
Merv besteht insgesamt aus fuenf (ok, mit den Huetten heute, sechs:-) verschiedenen Staedten, die immer dem Flusslauf des Murghab gefolgt sind (der heute 60km entfernt in Mary fliesst). Fuer die Aerchologen gut, da muessen sie nicht in Schichten graben sondern koennen nebeneinander buddeln...
Leider ist erstaunlicherweise wenig erhalten, ich hatte mir mehr von diesem UNESCO Weltkulturerbe erwartet. Was hier steht (ein paar Mausoleen) ist entweder neu oder wurde wieder aufgebaut (wie das Mausoleum von Sultan Sanjar von der Tuerkei).

Excursion to Merw (UNESCO) . Visiting Ancient Merv we can explore the process of urbanization in Central Asia. The smallest and earliest city at Merv is Erk Kala (approximately VI c. BC), which comprises only 20 hectares. It was enclosed by massive walls and a moat. The only entrance-way had a ramp leading straight to the city. Georgina Hermann, who has contributed so much to Turkmenistan archeology, described it as One of the imposing sites in Merv. The city's wall was continually reinforced until the early Islamic period when both Erk and Gyaur Kala were gradually abandoned. The Seleucids, Alexander’s successors, founded the second city of Merv (IV c. BC), known today as Gyaur Kala, which many experts identify with Antiochia Margiana. The city was built on a Hellenistic grid pattern. It is approximately square and occupies some 360 ha. Roughly in the middle of the site are the ruins of the 7th century mosque and partly ruined sordoba - water cistern. In the south east corner of Gyaur Kala one could see a distinguished mound- the remains of a Buddhist stupa and monastery. This complex was excavated by Masson M. in 1950s and the important finds included the famous ’Merv vase’ and the clay head of a massive statue of Buddha. Two outstanding monuments dating back to the Sasanid period are still visible on the territory of Ancient Merv - the Big Kyz Kala and small Kyz Kala (VI-VII cc). However, the Turkic name (in all Turkic languages Kyz means ‘girl’) doesn’t reflect the origin of the constructions. These rectangular clay castles - Koshks are of interesting architectural design, decorated from outside with corrugations. Different forms of vaults were used in these constructions. The Seljuk capital, consisting of a shahristan (medieval citadel) and a rabat (outskirts of the medieval city), considerably exceeded Damascus and Jerusalem in size. Today the Seljuk citadel is called Sultan Kala. It has an oval shape and occupies about 630 hectares. Its layout is still visible in aerial pictures. Among all city sites of Merw, perhaps the most significant is the medieval Seljuk city. During Seljuk Sultan Sanjar’s reign the Shahriar Ark was constructed - a citadel within the citadel, protected by its own walls and moat. Visiting Shahriar Ark you can see the Kepter Khana - an interesting corrugated structure, which is the best-preserved in the citadel. It’s walls still survive to a height of some 4,5 m, however the original height of the walls is hard to determine. The highlight of Ancient Merv is a visit to Sultan Sanjar’s mausoleum, which still dominates the landscape. This central-cupola building without portal is typical of the Khorasan architectural style. The mausoleum was created by Mohamed, the son of Atsyz of Serakhs. His name was not found in the historical chronicles, but we can find it on one of the medallions below the cupola of the mausoleum. Another monument at Merw from the time of the Seljuk rule is the mausoleum of Mohamed ibn Zaid, dated by inscription to 1112-13. It is located outside the medieval Seljuk citadel. It is unclear as to whom the mausoleum is actually devoted to. The local legend speaks about Mohamed Said ibn Zeid ibn Ali Zeinal Abedon ibn al- Husein ibn Ali-Talib, who was a prominent Shia teacher and direct descendant of the Prophet Ali in fifth generation. He died four centuries before the mausoleum was built and has been buried in Kufa in present-day Iraq. However, his name and the date of construction are mentioned in the inscription inside the mausoleum. It is an important place of pilgrimage in Turkmenistan. Next to the mausoleum we can find a sordoba (water cistern), also constructed in the Seljuk period. It is a domed construction to store rain water. Access to the cistern was by a stairway. A few kilometers to the south of the ruins of the medieval Sultan Kala we find the post-medieval city, known today as Abdullakhan Kala, constructed in the time of Timurid rule in the region, and was enclosed by massive walls and a moat with massive ramparts. Although one of the strongest and best fortified cities in the area, Abdullakhan Kala never reached the importance of the previous city sites. The remains of the city walls are still impressive, however, the walls, the Timurid palace and other constructions in this citadel, as well as four gates were much better preserved in the 19th century. The mausoleum-complex of Hodja Yusuf Hamadani (Hamdani) includes a modern mosque and minaret, the grave and mausoleum of Hodja Yusuf Hamadani (died in 1140), a Timurid iwan (portal) and a prayer hall. It’s walls still survive to a height of some 4,5 m, however the original height of the walls is hard to determine. The highlight of Ancient Merv is a visit to Sultan Sanjar’s mausoleum, which still dominates the landscape. This central-cupola building without portal is typical of the Khorasan architectural style. The mausoleum was created by Mohamed, the son of Atsyz of Serakhs. His name was not found in the historical chronicles, but we can find it on one of the medallions below the cupola of the mausoleum. Another monument at Merw from the time of the Seljuk rule is the mausoleum of Mohamed ibn Zaid, dated by inscription to 1112-13. It is located outside the medieval Seljuk citadel. It is unclear as to whom the mausoleum is actually devoted to. The local legend speaks about Mohamed Said ibn Zeid ibn Ali Zeinal Abedon ibn al- Husein ibn Ali-Talib, who was a prominent Shia teacher and direct descendant of the Prophet Ali in fifth generation. He died four centuries before the mausoleum was built and has been buried in Kufa in present-day Iraq. However, his name and the date of construction are mentioned in the inscription inside the mausoleum. It is an important place of pilgrimage in Turkmenistan. Next to the mausoleum we can find a sordoba (water cistern), also constructed in the Seljuk period. It is a domed construction to store rain water. Access to the cistern was by a stairway. A few kilometers to the south of the ruins of the medieval Sultan Kala we find the post-medieval city, known today as Abdullakhan Kala, constructed in the time of Timurid rule in the region, and was enclosed by massive walls and a moat with massive ramparts. Although one of the strongest and best fortified cities in the area, Abdullakhan Kala never reached the importance of the previous city sites. The remains of the city walls are still impressive, however, the walls, the Timurid palace and other constructions in this citadel, as well as four gates were much better preserved in the 19th century. The mausoleum-complex of Hodja Yusuf Hamadani (Hamdani) includes a modern mosque and minaret, the grave and mausoleum of Hodja Yusuf Hamadani (died in 1140), a Timurid iwan (portal) and a prayer hall. Breakfast at hotel. Late morning or early afternoon we begin the day with orientation tour of the city. We will see independence period parks and monuments, such as the Monument and Park of Independence (looking like a white-marble “Eiffel Tower” standing in a beautiful park) and a fountain-monument devoted to the 10th anniversary of independence (sculptural depiction of ten Akhal-Tekke horses placed on the top of a beautiful fountain), impressive Ertoghrul Ghazi mosque. We will also visit Kipchak village (10 km outside Ashgabat) to see an impressive complex of the biggest mosque in Turkmenistan and the family mausoleum of the first President. Finish the day with a tour of the National Museum of History (more than 327.000 objects on a display) exhibiting exclusive ancient artefacts from different historical & archaeological sites of Turkmenistan, such as Old Nisa, Ancient Merv, Kunya-Urgench & others. Overnight at hotel Grand Turkmen/Ak Altyn/Ashgabat.
Day-2 Ashgabat – Mary/Gonur Depe (B, L-picnic)
Early morning transfer to airport for flight to Mary (40 minutes by Boeing 717 or 737). On arrival in Mary, we drive to Gonur Depe, which used to be the capital of the legendary Margush country. After two hours drive through fields and villages and another hour through the desert, we arrive at an important archaeological site, the center of a remarkable Bronze Age civilization, discovered in 1972 and explored continuously till 2012 by Prof. Victor Sarianidi. Gonur Depe, as the professor describes, is a palace complex of 10 ha, represented by partly excavated earthen walls of former administrative buildings and religious structures of the Zoroastrian type. After about two hours of sightseeing, we will have a picnic-lunch, lunch boxes that we bring with us from the city. Return to Mary for rest. Overnight at hotel Mary/Margush.
Day-3 Mary – Ashgabat (B)
Breakfast at hotel. We drive east of Mary, towards Bayram-Ali, the contemporary re-incarnation of and humble suburb of the glorious Ancient Merv (UNESCO World Heritage Site). One of the major archaeological sites of Central Asia, Merv played an important part in the development of the Silk Road for more than 2000 years. Within the limits of the archaeological park, which is 1200 ha, we will have a chance to observe all constituent parts of the “wandering city”. A series of adjacent cities, which can be roughly divided into the ancient (Erk Kala and Gyaur Kala), the medieval (Sultan Kala with its suburbs), and post-medieval (Abdulla-Khan Kala and Bayram-Ali-Khan Kala), appeared in the course of time as a token of the natural progress of the city from initial stages of its existence to a more advanced level. Besides remnants of the cities of Merv, we will visit the VI-IX cc. AD forts of Big and Little Kyz-Kalas, excellent examples of the so-called corrugated Koshks; the splendid XII c. mausoleums of Sultan Sanjar and Muhammed ibn-Zeyd, demonstrating exquisite Seljuk period brickwork and architectural decor. If time permits, a possible visit to several more interesting spots within the site. After sightseeing, we head back to Mary to visit Regional Museum Museum, presenting a wide array of archaeological finds (dating back to the III mill. BC through the late XIX century) from both Ancient Merv and Bronze Age sites of the Margush country as well as interesting ethnographic displays reconstructing the scenes of daily life of the Turkmen population and other minorities of the Murghab oasis. In the afternoon we fly back to Ashgabat (40 minutes by Boeing 717 or 737), from a newly built airport of Mary. On arrival in Ashgabat, transfer to hotel. Late in the morning we begin the day heading for the fabled Bazaar of Tolkuchka (THU, SAT, SUN), attracting colourfully dressed people from all over the country to buy or sell camels, cattle and poultry, amulets, carpets, jewellery, and myriads other things. From the market we continue for sightseeing Ashgabat. We will visit the Park of independence with its independence monument, and Neutrality Square, famous for its Arch of Neutrality topped by a rotating gold-plated statue of the first President of Turkmenistan, and Earthquake Memorial dedicated to the victims of the 1948 earthquake. In the afternoon we visit the National Museum of History (more than 327.000 objects on a display) and see the exclusive ancient artefacts from different historical & archaeological sites of Turkmenistan, like Old Nisa, Ancient Merv & etc. Overnight at hotel Grand Turkmen/Ak Altyn/Ashgabat.

In the morning, we head east along one of the major directions of the former Silk Road in Turkmenistan. 12 kilometres from Ashgabat we will make a stop near modern Anau, at a former medieval city of Bagabad, featuring the citadel of an important Timurid-period centre and the ruins of the Seyit Jemaleddin mosque, which is referred to in many historical sources as “house of beauty”. Many centuries ago (around the 5th mill. BC) this area accommodated the population of early Central Asian farmers who developed the world-famous Anau culture, evidences of which were discovered and extracted during archaeological researches throughout the XX century. Having reached the modern village of Kaahka, we will make a short de-tour (40 km) to the fortress of Nadir-Shah (18 c.), astonishing in its accuracy and magnificent setting, still preserving late medieval “refrigerators,” or ice-houses. Then we continue to Mary, observing succession of desert, settlements and fields and encountering numerous “depe”, mounds marking and hiding remnants of former fortified strongholds, caravanserais, watch-towers or country-side estates of wealthy landlords. In the afternoon, we arrive in Mary, the capital of the present-day Mary region and the centre of the Murghab oasis. Overnight at hotel Mary/Margush.

The towering minaret and mausoleums of Konye-Urgench in isolated Turkmenistan cut striking forms against the desert sky, yet few foreign visitors make it to the site that was once at the center of the Islamic world.
Like the fabled Silk Road cities of Samarkand and Bukhara in neighboring Uzbekistan, Konye-Urgench's rich historical legacy is sheltered behind the borders of a secretive former communist Central Asian state that creates significant obstacles to tourism. "People come here from as far away as Australia, New Zealand and Chile," said Aman Amanov, a state guide at the dusty UNESCO world heritage site. But he said only 3,000 of the 200,000 annual visitors to the site, which claimed UNESCO status in 2005, are international tourists – between a quarter and a fifth of the volume state officials say Turkmenistan welcomes in a year.
"The Turkmen visa was the most elusive of them all," said Charlie Grosso, a photographer and travel writer, who visited the country in 2012. She traveled to the isolated state as part of the Mongol Rally, a 10,000-mile journey for charity during which motorists travel from Western Europe to Mongolia, traditionally in small, inexpensive vehicles. Grosso said she spent nearly half a day dealing with port officials after crossing the Caspian Sea from Azerbaijan.
"The people are lovely – we were given multiple melons during our trip," she told Agence France-Presse (AFP). "But you are basically faced with this unyielding bureaucracy at every turn. You really feel the presence of the state."
One of the five Central Asian republics to gain independence from Moscow in 1991, the country of 5 million people is famous for its eccentric leaders, vast gas reserves and secrecy. But Turkmenistan has had to grapple with a drop in global hydrocarbon prices and is looking for other sources of revenue, like tourism.
In April, President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov said the government needs to diversify the economy and curb spending. In a recent shakeup, he dismissed several senior officials overseeing the economy after the fall in prices in gas and oil – which make up more than 90 percent of its exports. The country also steeply devalued its currency, the manat.
In a guide available in English, Russian and Turkmen provided to visitors of Konye-Urgench, a message from Berdymukhamedov reads: "Our duty in front of our forefathers is not only to preserve these riches, but to make them accessible to the whole world."
Located 480 kilometers north of the white marble-clad capital, Ashgabat, Konye-Urgench was a seat of power for the medieval Khorezm kingdom, whose Muslim rulers controlled much of Central Asia in the 12th century after emerging from the shadow of the mighty Seljuk Empire.
Even after Genghis Khan's armies razed the city in 1221, Konye-Urgench became one of the most important economic hubs along the Silk Road trade routes carrying riches from China and India to markets in Europe.
UNESCO credits the government of Turkmenistan with generally good conservation practices, and calls Merv, another listed settlement in the country, "the oldest and most completely preserved of the oasis cities along the Silk Roads in Central Asia." Little is done, however, to ease access to the historic sites for foreign visitors.
The most commonly-issued visa for visitors to the country is a five-day transit visa, with longer stays generally requiring a state-endorsed tour and guides such as Amanov, who stick to the script and steer clear of politics.
"Ultimately, only a more open Turkmenistan might aspire to be a tourist destination," said Luca Anceschi, a Central Asia expert at the University of Glasgow, who called Turkmenistan's visa regime "one of the most intractable on earth."

Day 1 Ashgabat arrival (B)
Early in the morning arrive in Ashgabat. Meet Turkmen guide and driver. Transfer to hotel for overnight. Late morning start sightseeing Ashgabat, visiting independence-period parks and monuments, including the Neutrality Square, and the National Museum of History, whose halls are dedicated to various themes and historical periods. Demonstrating a rich collection of artefacts from all over Turkmenistan, including ivory rhytons from Old Nisa, the museum will also offer us reconstruction models of most of the sites that we are going to visit. In the evening we head south to the Kopetdag Mountains to take a cable-car ride and see a splendid view of the white-marble capital city. Overnight at hotel Grand Turkmen/Ak Altyn/Ashgabat.
Day 2 Ashgabat – Mary/Gonur Depe (B,L-box)
Early in the morning we fly to Mary (40 min by Boeing 717 or 737). On arrival in a newly built airport of Mary, we set off north-east, towards Gonur Depe, which used to be the capital of the legendary Margush country. After two hours’ drive through fields and villages and another hour through the desert, we arrive at an important archaeological site, the centre of a remarkable Bronze Age civilisation, discovered in 1972 and explored continuously till 2012 by Prof. Victor Sarianidi. After about two hours of sightseeing, we will have a picnic lunch, lunch boxes that we brought with us from the city, and then head back to Mary. Evening rest. Overnight at hotel Mary/Margush.
Day 3 Mary (Merv) – Ashgabat (B)
After breakfast, we head 25 km to the east of Mary, towards Bayram-Ali, the contemporary re-incarnation of and humble suburb of the glorious Ancient Merv (UNESCO World Heritage Site). One of the major archaeological sites of Central Asia, Merv played an important part in the development of the Silk Road for more than 2 000 years. Within the limits of the archaeological park, which is 1200 ha, we will have a chance to observe all constituent parts of the “wandering city”. A series of adjacent cities, which can be roughly divided into the ancient (Erk Kala and Gyaur Kala), the medieval (Sultan Kala with its suburbs), and post-medieval (Abdulla-Khan Kala and Bayram-Ali-Khan Kala), appeared in the course of time as a token of the natural progress of the city from initial stages of its existence to a more advanced level. Besides remnants of the cities of Merv, we will visit the VI-IX cc. AD forts of Big and Little Kyz-Kalas, excellent examples of the so-called corrugated Koshks; the splendid XII c. mausoleums of Sultan Sanjar and Muhammed ibn-Zeyd, demonstrating exquisite Seljuk period brickwork and architectural décor. If time and enthusiasm permits, it is possible to visit several more interesting spots within the site. After sightseeing, we head back to Mary. On arrival in Mary, we visit Regional Mary Museum, presenting a wide array of archaeological finds (dating back to the III mill. BC through the late XIX century) from both Ancient Merv and Bronze Age sites of the Margush country. In the afternoon we fly back to Ashgabat (40 minutes by Boeing-717), from a newly built airport of Mary. On arrival in Ashgabat, transfer to hotel. Overnight at hotel Grand Turkmen/Ak Altyn/Ashgabat.
Day 4 Ashgabat – Dashoguz (B)
This morning we fly to the north of Turkmenistan, Dashoguz, to see outstanding monuments of the Turkmen Khorezm. Arrive in Dashoguz. Drive to Kunya-Urgench (Old Urgench) to see the former capital of the Khorezmshah Empire (100 km). Another World Heritage site, Kunya-Urgench welcomes you with the mausoleum of Turabeg Khanum (15 c.), one of the best architectural examples of its time; the minaret of Kutlug Temur (11-14 cc.), the highest medieval minaret in Central Asia; the mausoleum of Sultan Tekesh (late 12 c.), with a turquoise cone of a dome; and the mausoleum of Il-Arslan (the mid 12 c.), the founder of the pre-Mongol Khorezmshah empire. Before we drive back to Dashoguz, we visit a cosy museum in Kunya-Urgench, the displays of which are located in khujras (prayer cells) of the former madrasah. Each khujra highlights a separate aspect of former life in the area: a student’s room, a jeweller’s room, workshops of blacksmith’s, shoe and cart makers, carpet and silk weavers, and others. Sightseeing over, we return to Dashoguz. Overnight at hotel Dashoguz/Uzboy.

Another World Heritage site, Kunya-Urgench welcomes you with the mausoleum of Turabeg Khanum (15 c.), one of the best architectural examples of its time; the minaret of Kutlug Temur (11-14 cc.), the highest medieval minaret in Central Asia; the mausoleum of Sultan Tekesh (late 12 c.), with a turquoise cone of a dome; and the mausoleum of Il-Arslan (the mid 12 c.), the founder of the pre-Mongol Khorezmshah empire. Before we drive back to Dashoguz, we visit a cosy museum in Kunya-Urgench, the displays of which are located in khujras (prayer cells) of the former madrasah. Each khujra highlights a separate aspect of former life in the area: a student’s room, a jeweller’s room, workshops of blacksmith’s, shoe and cart makers, carpet and silk weavers, and others. Sightseeing over, we return to Dashoguz. Overnight at hotel Dashoguz/Uzboy.
