Pepe Le Moko (Tony Martin) leads a gang of jewel thieves in the Casbah of Algiers, where he has exiled himself to escape imprisonment in his native France. Inez (Yvonne DeCarlo), his girl friend, is infiriated when Pepe flirts with Gaby (Marta Toren), a French vistor, but Pepe tells her to mind her own business. Detective Slimane (Peter Lorre)is trying to lure Pepe out of the Casbah so he can be jailed. Against Slimane's advice, Police Chief Louvain capture Pepe in a dragnet, but his followers free him. Casbah (1948) is a musical film directed by John Berry, starring Yvonne DeCarlo and Tony Martin, and released by Universal Studios.
Casbah tells the story about a bad boy (Tony Martin who plays Pepe Le Moko) who meets a beautiful girl (Marta Toren who plays Gaby). The girl has scruples and rejects the Pepe because of his criminal activities (he’s a crime lord in the Casbah). She rejects Pepe because of who he is, with the hint that if he reforms, he might have a chance with her.
Believing he will not reform, she leaves the Casbah to catch a plane to leave Morocco forever. His love for her changes him and he sacrifices the safety of the Casbah and his network of associates, who have too much power for the authorities within the Casbah to apprehend him.
As a consequence when he leaves the Casbah he is shot and apprehended by the authorities. As he lies wounded possibly fatally, there is a poignant last scene where Gaby is seen in the window of the plane but fails to look outside where Pepe pleadingly looks in vain to her for a single glance.

Tony Martin (San Francisco, 25 de diciembre de 1913 - Los Ángeles, 27 de julio de 2012) fue un actor y cantante estadounidense que estuvo casado con la intérprete Cyd Charisse durante 60 años.
Martin nació como Alvin Morris en San Francisco, California, hijo de Patty (nacida Smith) y Edward Clarence Morris. Su familia era judía, y todos sus abuelos habían emigrado de Europa del Este. Una abuela le regaló un saxofón a la edad de diez años.
Martin creció en el seno de una familia pobre judía de origen ruso, a caballo entre las ciudades de San Francisco y Oakland, donde sacó a relucir el potencial de su voz en los clubes nocturnos y, sobre todo, en las radios locales. Esas actuaciones, unidas a su voz potente y apasionada, le permitieron aprovechar el tirón que tuvieron los musicales en el Hollywood de los años 30 y 40, actuando en un total de 25 películas.
Así, Twentieth Century-Fox en 1936 fijo sus ojos en este melodioso e imponente cantante de 1,83 metros de estatura, firmando un contrato por el que Martin aparecería por vez primera en la gran pantalla en el musical «Sing Baby Sing», protagonizada por su futura esposa Faye y que presentó a los Hermanos Ritz como una versión más frenética de los Hermanos Marx. Ambos formaron una de las parejas más apuestas de Hollywood, pero como buen matrimonio «hollywoodiense» se vino abajo por roces relacionados con conflictos de trabajo y el divorcio quedó formalizado dos años después. Entonces Martin conoció a Cyd Charisse, las piernas más largas de Hollywood y su verdadero amor que surgió en una cena ofrecida por el agente de ambos. Con ella se casó en 1948. Tony Martin (San Francisco, 25 de diciembre de 1913 - Los Ángeles, 27 de julio de 2012) fue un actor y cantante estadounidense que estuvo casado con la intérprete Cyd Charisse durante 60 años.
Martin nació como Alvin Morris en San Francisco, California, hijo de Patty (nacida Smith) y Edward Clarence Morris. Su familia era judía, y todos sus abuelos habían emigrado de Europa del Este. Una abuela le regaló un saxofón a la edad de diez años.
Martin creció en el seno de una familia pobre judía de origen ruso, a caballo entre las ciudades de San Francisco y Oakland, donde sacó a relucir el potencial de su voz en los clubes nocturnos y, sobre todo, en las radios locales. Esas actuaciones, unidas a su voz potente y apasionada, le permitieron aprovechar el tirón que tuvieron los musicales en el Hollywood de los años 30 y 40, actuando en un total de 25 películas.
Así, Twentieth Century-Fox en 1936 fijo sus ojos en este melodioso e imponente cantante de 1,83 metros de estatura, firmando un contrato por el que Martin aparecería por vez primera en la gran pantalla en el musical «Sing Baby Sing», protagonizada por su futura esposa Faye y que presentó a los Hermanos Ritz como una versión más frenética de los Hermanos Marx. A Alger, tous les styles d'architecture et toutes les époques cohabitent : le style arabe ; le style ottoman ; le style néo-mauresque ; le style français du 19ème siècle ; le style épuré moderne... L'Archevêché est un exemple parfait d'architecture mauresque du 18ème siècle. La Maison du Centenaire est construite en 1930 dans un style "turque". Dès 1860, une ville française s'ajoute à la petite capitale barbaresque et l'on construit les boulevards et les rampes du port. Né en 1917 au village ighil imoula, à Tizi-Ouzou, Hocine Asselah rejoint la capital très jeune, et c'est à Soustara à l'école Sarroy (école que fréquentaient quelques fondateurs du MCA) qu'il poursuivait ses études primaires, mais comme beaucoup d'algériens de l'époque il n'a pas pu suivre un enseignement secondaire normal.Il parvient néanmoins à maitriser les deux langues Arabe et Français pour mener un combat de militatntisme jusq'uà la fin de sa vie.
Dès 1934, il milita au sein de l'étoile Nord Africaine et devint secrétaire des jeunesses de congrés.En 1942, il devint membre du CARNA, il est membre fondateur du journal l'Action.Emprisonné en 1945 à El Harrach, il a été détenu ensuite à l'hôpital de Mustapha (troubles cardiaques) d'où il s'évada dans des conditions extrêmement difficiles.Membre des directions des AML et du PPA, il est envoyé en octobre 1946 par le PPA à Paris où il réorganisa la Fédération de France de ce parti.
ASSELAH Hocine,ancien Mouloudien (section basket) est figure marquante du nationalisme algérien, militant puis rapidement l'un des dirigeants les plus en vue du PPA-MTLD de 1939 à 1948.
Il est décédé en Janvier 1948, victime des sévices de la police colonialiste. En hommage à son sacrifice, une des artères principales d'Alger
porte son nom.
L'exemple du premier grand militant Hocine ASSELAH a servi de stimulant à des dizaines de nationalistes originaires comme lui d'IGHIL-IMOULA (Wilaya de Tizi-Ouzou). Ce village où fut imprimée la fameuse Déclaration du 1er Novembre 1954 est considéré comme un Haut-lieu historique. Outre les souffrances de la quasi-totalité des villageois durant la guerre de libération, il y a été dénombré globalement, 84 Chouhada, 28 membres de l'ALN qui ont survécu et 61 internés.

Casbah, one of Japan’s most popular hardcore thrash punk metal bands, was formed back in 1983 by vocalist Taka Hatori and original guitarists Nariaki Kida and Tsutomu Enkawa. It was after current bassist Koichi Mitani and guitarist Ryo Murayama joined the band that they began performing in local clubs in Tokyo and its vicinity. The band’s first break came in 1986 when they released their 2nd 7inch single Russian Roulette / Death Metal. The release has coined the name Casbah on the international underground hardcore metal scene, receiving rave reviews from fanzines worldwide. Followed by another one of their iconic releases of the 80s, Infinite Pain (demo cassette), the band almost went on to sign with Noise Records, which fell apart. Unsigned to any labels, the band continued their pounding by releasing four demo cassettes until the mid 90s and also performing at New York’s CBGB’s, when finally they launch themselves a record deal with Roadrunner Records Japan in 1997, releasing their first full length album Bold Statement. Supporting their label-mates i.e. Sepultura, Machine Head, and Madball, the band in total releases four titles from Roadrunner before they decide to temporary bring the band to a halt in 2000. To celebrate the band’s 30th anniversary in 2013, with the addition of a new drummer Shu Ishikawa, the band began performing again, and in 2015 they release their 2nd full length album in 18 years Reach Out from B.T.H. Casbah pres. Bitrates Kuala Lumpur feat. Nazir
A project of sorts; this is the brainchild of The Mint Factory (TMF) from Singapore and IDJ from Malaysia, to be able to gather and provide electronic music to the masses. Ever since it’s inception , Bitrates has been making it’s mark right in the EDM and clubbing scene in Singapore, and gaining popularity amongst clubbers young and old.
