Ocean Oasis - Two Worlds - One Paradise
Ocean Oasis is a fascinating journey into the bountiful seas and pristine deserts of two remarkably different, but inextricably linked worlds - Mexico's Sea of Cortes and the Baja California desert. What powerful geologic forces collided to carve out this unique region? What drives the strong currents that make this ocean so unusually rich in nutrients? How does life thrive in a seemingly barren landscape? Ocean Oasis mesmerizes us with revealing and memorable scenes that explore these mysteries. Glide side-by-side with a graceful giant manta ray as it arches and swoops through water, sparkling under the hot Baja California sun. Witness the pageant of migrating whales, the elaborate tango of courting terns, the battles of lumbering elephant seals. Fly over sweeping vistas of snow-capped mountains, vast deserts, palm oases, and mangrove swamps -- then plunge into astonishing underwater sequences of rarely seen marine life. Ocean Oasis is both visually stunning and provocative, compelling in its message that this little-known region is a treasure worth preserving.

ETOSHA Namibia
The Etosha National Park in Namibia is one of the largest wildlife reserves in the world and no other park in Africa contains so many wild animals. The Etosha Salt Pan is located in the centre of the park, 5000 square kilometres of arid terrain and an almost endless plain of fine silvery white sand. To date, 110 varieties of mammals have been recorded in Etosha, a truly remarkable number that is also reflected in the vegetation of this region. Moreover, 340 species of bird also populate this unique habitat. The most fascinating natural spectacles are to be seen around the park's numerous waterholes where the drinking protocol is determined by the elephant. The natural beauty and variety of African wildlife, whether individually, in groups or in large herds is a truly magnificent experience in Eotsha.

PORVOO Finland
On the banks of the Porvoonjoki River around 50 kilometres east of the Finnish metropolis of Helsinki is the picturesque town of Porvoo. The origin of today's bishop's town dates back to 1346 and after Turku, it is the second oldest town in Finland. Porvoo was located on one of Scandinavia's most important trading routes, the historic King's Road, which became a pawn in the hands of the great powers. In 1760 a devastating fire reduced the town to ashes. Unfortunately, only a few buildings survived the catastrophe. However, the historic centre of Porvoo, with its charming old buildings, has managed to maintain much of its original atmosphere. Porvoo's oldest building dates back to the 16th century yet the town's other buildings more than compensate for their lack of age by way of their pretty floral decorations. The idyllic narrow lanes and shopping streets as well as the colourful buildings, form a unique ensemble that is truly unforgettable. Porvoo is rightfully described as a Finnish treasure trove of mediaeval architecture!

CATHEDRAL DE SEVILLA The Cathedral of Seville Seville, Spain
Seville Cathedral, also known as the Catedral De Santa Maria De La Sede, is the most important church in the Andalusian metropolis. It is the largest Gothic cathedral and also the third largest Christian church in the world. It replaced the former Islamic Seville Mosque that was built by the Almohades in 1198. The cathedral's various chapels not only have great aesthetic appeal but are also of historical artistic value, as they contain a number of sacred works of art that are truly remarkable. The construction of the cathedral was designed to create an unmistakable symbol of Christian glory and power, a building with much political significance. The cathedral also possesses a famous tomb, that of the legendary discoverer of America, Christopher Columbus. From the bell gallery that is around 70 metres high, visitors can enjoy a splendid view of the cathedral below, as well as the unique courtyard and the endless ocean of rooftops in the old part of Seville.

VIENTIANE Laos
Since the 16th century, Vientiane has been the capital of Laos and is situated in the heart of Indochina. The city originated at the point at which the first navigable section of the Mekong River joins with the Gulf of Thailand. Vientiane was once a group of rural settlements and even today contains several village-like districts, each with its own temple and traditional marketplace. At the end of the 19th century, the French began to renovate the city's most important buildings and made Vientiane the administrative capital of their new colony and gave it a French look. There are some fascinating places to visit outside the city, such as the Cultural Park of the Laotian People, a large area on the banks of the Mekong River. Historic Vientiane also has some fine reconstructed buildings, such as the Wat Inpeng on the western bank of Pagoda Street. Artistic wooden carvings on the windows and doors, along with the paintings and stucco work on the walls, feature various legends from the life of Buddha. Some signs of affluence are beginning to appear and in future years, Vientiane may become yet another Asian metropolis with skyscrapers, smog and manic rush hours. It is now poised to leap into contemporary times, as it gradually emerges from its atmospheric curtain of bamboo.

ANGKOR WAT Cambodia
For many centuries, a cultural and historic treasure lay hidden amid the dense jungles of Cambodia, Angkor Wat. This huge temple site was once completely surrounded by water-filled ditches that protected the sanctuary from the noise of the once busy city of Angkor. To date 1700 artistic reliefs have been counted in Angkor Wat. Most of them contain religious illustrations derived from Indian mythology. Interestingly, the historic figure of the god-like king, Suryavarman The Second appears to combine with the Hindu god, Vishnu. Khmer culture was strongly influenced by numerous Indian tribes and people who had immigrated to Cambodia in the first millennium. Liberation from the long domination of the Chinese-influenced Funan Empire made the Khmer stronger and created their first period of prosperity. The remarkable monuments of Angkor Wat, along with the amazing cultural heritage of Cambodia were discovered in 1850 by a Frenchman, Bouillevaux. Based on his sensational discovery, archaeologists have been able to shed further light on this remarkable location. This has led to even greater knowledge of both the legendary mythological images and inhabitants of the Khmer epoch.

MISSION SANTA BARBARA California
The Santa Barbara Mission is located on a hill above the centre of a famous coastal resort on California's legendary west coast. In 1820, the sacred building's architect wanted to base his design on the architectural and artistic styles of Roman temple construction. While in Spain, a Franciscan friar acquired a book that contained details of Pre-Christian buildings designed by the Roman architect, Vitruvius Pollio. Long before the Spanish invaded and the arrival of missionaries, this region was inhabited by a tribe of Native American Indians, the Chumash. The early religious community that settled here educated the Indians in Christianity thus, a number of the important leaders of the Chumas were converted to Christianity. Compared to other Spanish missions in North America, the splendid design of Santa Barbara's interior and the church's precious works of art are unique. Right up to the present day, an important part of the historic and cultural heritage of California has been lovingly maintained within this veritable Queen of Missions.

LOUISIANA SWAMPS Louisiana
In the southern region of Louisiana, there is a fascinating and mysterious swampland that was once the sole domain of courageous hunters and trappers. Following the construction of several large dams and water barriers that were designed to defend against catastrophic floods in the extensive delta region, a large network of smaller canals, or 'bayous', was created. Today, the Louisiana swamps provide a unique habitat for both indigenous and migratory wildlife and a natural refuge far away from civilization. Some time ago, it was the mink that attracted great hordes of trappers to this region that also served as a hiding place for various bandits and pirates. The desolation of the swamps was well appreciated by those who attempted to escape from the law and they certainly possess an eerie atmosphere. However, the colorful stories of n'er do well's and legendary figures, such as Bigfoot, have added to the enigmatic character of this intriguing area. Thus from year to year, the fascination in the Louisiana swamps continues to captivate an increasing number of visitors.
