Togo (October 1913 – December 5, 1929) was the sled dog who led Leonhard Seppala and his dog sled team as they covered the longest distance in the 1925 relay of diphtheria antitoxin from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska, to combat an outbreak of the disease. The run is commemorated by the annual Iditarod dog sled race.[citation needed]
Togo was a Siberian Husky, his coat was black, brown, and gray, and he weighed about 48 pounds (22 kg). Seppala's lead dog during the 1914 All-Alaska Sweepstakes, and was a precocious leader. At the time of the serum run Togo was twelve years old.
The first batch of 300,240 units of serum was delivered by train from Anchorage to Nenana, Alaska, where it was picked up by the first of twenty mushers and more than 100 dogs who relayed the serum a total of 674 miles (1,085 km) to Nome.
Togo and Seppala traveled 170 miles (274 km) from Nome in three days, and picked up the serum in Shaktoolik on January 31. The temperature was estimated at −30 °F (−34 °C), and the gale force winds causing a wind chill of −85 °F (−65 °C).

Togo, officially the Togolese Republic 
i/ˈtoʊɡoʊ/, is a country in West Africa bordered by Ghana to the west, Benin to the east, and Burkina Faso to the north. It extends south to the Gulf of Guinea, on which the capital Lomé is located. Togo covers an area of approximately 57,000 square kilometres (22,000 sq mi) with a population of approximately 6.7 million.
Togo is a tropical, sub-Saharan nation, highly dependent on agriculture, with a climate that provides good growing seasons. The official language is French, with many other languages spoken in Togo, particularly those of the Gbe family. The largest religious group in Togo are those with indigenous beliefs, and there are significant Christian and Muslim minorities. Togo is a member of the United Nations, African Union, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, South Atlantic Peace and Cooperation Zone, La Francophonie and Economic Community of West African States.
From the 11th to the 16th century, various tribes entered the region from all directions. From the 16th century to the 18th century, the coastal region was a major trading centre for Europeans in search of slaves, earning Togo and the surrounding region the name "The Slave Coast". In 1884, Germany declared Togoland a protectorate. After World War I, rule over Togo was transferred to France. Togo gained its independence from France in 1960.

Pucky, our cavalier, is a great manipulator. When he wants something really really badly, he will make sure that we know he wants it. For example, if we are too busy with anything that doesn't revolve around him, he often acts like he isn't feeling well. Of course, I would drop everything, scoop him up, and put the Lion King on to watch with him while he miraculously recovered. It took me a few times before I finally caught on to his game. In this video, Pucky shows you how he lets us know that he wants to go out for a walk. He especially does this on gorgeous days when he REALLY wants to go. As seen on the video, he will sit at the window, and every time we look his way, he would make his soft, begging eyes, look all sad, and keep looking from us to the window in the hopes that we could add it all up and come to the same conclusion as he has: It's a beautiful day, let's go for a walk!

In this video, Pucky shows you how he lets us know that he wants to go out for a walk. He especially does this on gorgeous days when he REALLY wants to go. As seen on the video, he will sit at the window, and every time we look his way, he would make his soft, begging eyes, look all sad, and keep looking from us to the window in the hopes that we could add it all up and come to the same conclusion as he has: It's a beautiful day, let's go for a walk!

I am lucky to get one good photo of a dog even after taking 20 of them, with Togo all 20 were perfect because he is so calm and just stands or sits there and lets you take photo after photo. He is a very friendly and loving dog. Really all he wants is love and affection. He would chase a toy for a minute and come right back to you for some love. He would make a great family dog, just a sweetheart. The perfect size, too, not too small and not too big!

2014 Iditarod Movie - for TOGO & BALTO
My first Iditarod experience. The official start in Willow, AK on March 2nd, 2014 at 2pm. The people were courteous, gave away free cocoa and hot dogs while families played in the snow. There were 69 contenders for the 'Last Greatest Race on Earth' for the North trail. That trail is 875 miles over mountain ranges with 24 check points along the way, ending in Nome. A ceremonial start occurred on Sat March 1st in Anchorage to huge crowds. 52 volunteer veterinarians are on hand, required to commit at least 1 week although most commit from start to finish, to monitor the dogs. Before the start of the race, lab work and EKGs are performed baseline. Icebound: The Greatest Dog Story Ever Told
Documentary about an adventure that has become known as the greatest dog story ever told and captured the imagination of children and adults throughout the world for almost a century.
On January 28 1925, newspapers and radio stations broke a terrifying story - diphtheria had broken out in Nome, Alaska, a city separated from the rest of the world for seven months by a frozen ocean. With aviation still in its infancy and amidst one of the harshest winters on record, there was only one way to reach the town - dogsled. In minus 60 degrees, over 20 men and at least 150 dogs, among them the famous Balto, set out to relay the antitoxin across 674 miles of Alaskan wilderness to save the town.

My first Iditarod experience. The official start in Willow, AK on March 2nd, 2014 at 2pm. The people were courteous, gave away free cocoa and hot dogs while families played in the snow.
There were 69 contenders for the 'Last Greatest Race on Earth' for the North trail. That trail is 875 miles over mountain ranges with 24 check points along the way, ending in Nome. A ceremonial start occurred on Sat March 1st in Anchorage to huge crowds.
52 volunteer veterinarians are on hand, required to commit at least 1 week although most commit from start to finish, to monitor the dogs. Before the start of the race, lab work and EKGs are performed baseline.
The contenders arrived from Jamaica, Norway, Sweden, Australia, other US states and of course Alaska, to participate in an event designed to honor the fearless dedication of the 'Mushers' and their dearly loved dog teams that provided much-needed mail and supplies to areas impossible to reach otherwise.

Whilst on his travels, Ian tries rancid shark and 'black death'. As if that isn't enough he launches into 'Cooking with Ian', inviting two members of the audience to sample this delicacy!
