I apologize about the poor quality, the video was shot with my cellphone, which was in my breast pocket.
On 06/05/2015, I was stopped by, Officer Timothy Kent, badge #5223, pulled me over for taking pictures of him screaming at a man on the side of the road.
While going to the store, I observed Officer Kent, on the side of the road, screaming in the face of another civilian. At this point I picked up my Nikon D3300 DSLR camera, and began taking pictures of the officer and civilian during their interaction. The man noticed me taking pictures, and, noticeably upset, pointed this out to officer.
Kent began yelling at me across one lane of traffic that I was not allowed to "operate a handheld device while driving". I simply stated, "I'm not driving, I'm sitting here", as I was stopped at a red light with several other vehicles. Kent did not like this, and initiated a traffic stop, pulling me over to the side of the road.
When I initially pulled over, Kent began rapping on my window in a very aggressive manner, repeating over and over, "License and Registration, License and Registration, License and Registration". I objected to the stop, stated I was handing my papers over under protest and duress, and complied with the officers orders. I was then ordered out of the vehicle, which is where this video begins.
I was given a citation under TA-21-1124.2(d2):
(d) Prohibited use of handheld telephone while vehicle is in motion.-
(2) A driver of a motor vehicle that is in motion may not use the driver's hands to use a handheld telephone other than to initiate or terminate a wireless telephone call or to turn on or turn off the handheld telephone.
At no time did I have my "mobile telephone" in my hands while the vehicle was in motion, nor did I have it in my hand at all prior to Kent pulling me over. This was a blatant violation of my 1st amendment right, as the only reason I was pulled over was because I was taking the officer's picture.
During the stop, Kent never identified himself and never gave a valid reason for the stop. Two other officers who arrived on scene did ID themselves as required by policy.
Officer Kent did not come to court to justify his actions as he knew they were illegal.
To the cowardly officer Timothy Kent, I do not forgive, I do not forget.
You will be hearing from me in the future. You better have a damn good lawyer.

REISTERSTOWN, Md. (WBFF) -- Baltimore County Police are releasing footage of the fatal officer-involved shooting of a 19-year-old suspect in Reisterstown.
The teen, Keith Harrison McLeod, was shot Wednesday after running from police who were responding to a call of a man trying to use a forged prescription at the Nature Care pharmacy.
Chief Jim Johnson says the video makes clear his officer, identified Friday as Officer Earomirski, responded appropriately. He says the department is releasing the footage for transparency and he thinks it will help citizens better understand what happened and the dangers police face.
The 50-second video shows officer Earomirski and McLeod in a Reisterstown alley.
"The suspect had nowhere to go except to go back through the officer," Chief Johnson says. "That individual was advancing on my police officer with a gun drawn. His hand was behind his back, in his waistband. Officers know that's a common way to carry a weapon."
Police released the unedited video showing the seconds leading up to the shooting through a few seconds after the shots were fired.
"(McLeod) whipped that arm around, in less than a microsecond that officer had to make a decision, a decision that could save his life and he did," Chief Johnson says.
McLeod was hit three times in his upper torso and leg.
"You will note the suspect while still on the ground is trying to dig in to his dip or waistline for what the officer perceived as a weapon," Chief Johnson says.
McLeod did not have a weapon. But Johnson says his actions indicated he did and Officer Earomirski did everything correctly.
The officer is a nine-and-a-half-year veteran.
"He's spent his entire time in patrol division. He's one of my finest officers."
This is the first shooting he's been involved in.
"This footage does not contain any audio," Chief Johnson says. "Witnesses have advised us that the officer pleaded with the individual saying, 'You don't want to do this. You don't want to do this. You don't want to do this.' The suspect on the other hand, according to witnesses and others, repeatedly used profanities, screamed and yelled at the officer, 'I'm going to kill you. I'm going to kill you. I'm going to kill you.' My police officer had one second to make a life or death decision."
The chief says the department has been in contact with an attorney for McLeod's family. He is from Washington D.C.
Police are still investigating this incident. The officer is on routine administrative leave.

A high school graduation in Maryland is gaining national attention for the immaturity of the adults in attendance rather than the success of the students onstage.
A massive brawl broke out outside Towson University's SECU Center on Tuesday after the Randallstown High School class of 2014 took the stage for their diplomas, according to local media.
Full-grown men and women were exchanging punches while their embarrassed children looked on in graduation gowns.
"It was a display of childish behavior and the fact that it wasn't even students, it was grown people, they should have known better to take away the shine of their child graduating and to have a fight over something stupid at graduation," April Freeman, a student at Randallstown, told WBAL-TV.
The fiasco was shot on camera cellphones and posted to the Internet in a series of Vine posts. Some of the not-so-grown-ups can be seen piling on while others are seen trying to break it up.

INTRODUCTION:
This video summarizes the ATF Fire Research Laboratory's Engineering Analysis of the fire that occurred at 30 Dowling Circle on January 19th, 2011 using actual scene audio, photographs and computer fire modeling video. ATF Fire Protection Engineers were asked to utilize engineering analysis methods, including computer fire modeling, to assist with determining the route of fire spread and the events that led to the firefighter MAYDAY and subsequent Line of Duty Death of Firefighter Mark Falkenhan.

BACKGROUND:
Working closely with the Post Incident Analysis Team, the ATF Fire Research Laboratory created a computer representation of the garden apartment building using Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS). FDS is a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling program developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). FDS utilizes mathematical calculations to predict the flow of heat, smoke and other byproducts of fire. Smokeview, a post-processer computer program also produced by NIST, was then used to visualize the mathematical output from FDS. The most current available versions of both programs were used, FDS 5.5.3 and Smokeview 5.6.
The garden apartment building at 30 Dowling Circle was attached to two similar garden apartment buildings, one on each side. The fire damage was isolated to 30 Dowling Circle, so the exposure buildings were not included in the computer fire model. The entire six unit garden apartment building was modeled in FDS, including the patio and balconies on the rear of the building. FDS works by dividing a space into cubical "grid cells" for calculation purposes. FDS then computes various CFD calculations for each grid cell to predict the movement of mass, energy, momentum and other species throughout a three-dimensional space. The Dowling Circle model consisted of 2,560,000 total grid cells that were each 3.9 inches (10 cm) cubes. The model spanned a total elapsed time of 27.5 minutes, beginning before the 911 call and ending just after flashover of the third floor and the firefighter MAYDAY. The model was synchronized real time with the scene audio throughout the duration of the fire.
CONCLUSION:
While no fire model will exactly replicate a fire, this model provided insight on the route of fire spread, the rapid flashover of the second and third level, and the potential benefits of compartmentation on slowing fire and smoke spread. The unidirectional flow path up the stairs from the terrace level apartment resulted in a high rate of convective heat transfer to the firefighters initially attempting to descend the stairs, making attacking the seat of the fire very difficult. The model then the fact that the main stairwell acted as an open channel for fire and smoke spread between the second and third levels, resulting in flashover of the third level in approximately 30 seconds after the second level. This rapid time to flashover is supported by photographs, witness statements and scene audio. The model was then utilized to explore the effects of compartmentation using apartment entrance doors. The FDS model supported the scene observations and indicated that shutting the entrance doors blocked the buoyancy driven ventilation flow paths through the structure and slowed the spread of fire and smoke, ultimately preventing fire extension to the third floor apartment via the stairwell.
The FDS model was utilized as part of the overall engineering analysis of this tragic fire and was utilized to gain a better understanding of the events that led to the firefighter MAYDAY and subsequent Line of Duty Death. The model was also used as an educational tool, providing insight on potential methods of preventing similar tragedies in the future. The results of this engineering analysis are intended to be reviewed by the Post Incident Analysis Team to assist in the formation of recommendations to mitigate the danger associated with future fire incidents.

TOWSON, Md. -- Baltimore County Police are investigating a video that has surfaced involving a police officer and a 19-year-old man who resisted arrest outside of the Greene Turtle bar in Towson released on Saturday.
Cell phone video that was shot by a bystander is on YouTube, shows three officers trying to place Zachary Carson Blumenstein under arrest.
One officer hits Blumenstein numerous times as he resists.
"There are other techniques for restraint that our officers are taught in the academy," says Baltimore County police spokesperson Elise Armacost. "The point where Chief Johnson became concerned is the point at which the closed fist is used to strike the head."
Chief Jim Johnson of Baltimore County Police says use of force training requires officers to use the minimal force that's required to bring a situation under control and to escalate that use of force based on circumstances. Johnson also says while it appeared that the officer involved did escalate the use of force as required, he's concerned about the cop's use of a closed fist to hit the suspect several times.
Officials say the officer approached Blumenstein about 40 minutes before the incident occurred on video, around 1:20 a.m. The man was having a verbal dispute in front of the bar; five other men tried restraining him. The officer ordered Blumenstein to leave, which he ignored and started yelling profanities.
"He was combative from the moment the officer first interacted with him," Armacost says. "The first time he was simply told you've got to move along."
The five men removed the 19-year-old from the area. Later on around 2:00 in the morning, the officer saw Zachary Blumenstein push a man on the 400 block of York Road. After the cop told the suspect he was under arrest, he kept resisting, even after the officer told him to stop. Another policeman came to assist with the arrest. One of the cops sprayed pepper spray to subdue the suspect, but he continued to not cooperate.
Zachary Carson Blumenstein attends Dickinson College and is from Chevy Chase, MD.
He is charged with resisting arrest, disturbing the peace, disorderly conduct, trespassing, and failure to obey a police officer. He was later released after a written promise to appear in court.
Armacost calls the cell phone footage helpful, but says it doesn't tell the whole story.
"It does not show what led up the incident. It doesn't show what happened 30-40 minutes before. It doesn't show what the officer was thinking and it doesn't tell you what was being said," she says.

FDS utilizes mathematical calculations to predict the flow of heat, smoke and other byproducts of fire. Smokeview, a post-processer computer program also produced by NIST, was then used to visualize the mathematical output from FDS. The most current available versions of both programs were used, FDS 5.5.3 and Smokeview 5.6. The garden apartment building at 30 Dowling Circle was attached to two similar garden apartment buildings, one on each side. The fire damage was isolated to 30 Dowling Circle, so the exposure buildings were not included in the computer fire model. The entire six unit garden apartment building was modeled in FDS, including the patio and balconies on the rear of the building. FDS works by dividing a space into cubical "grid cells" for calculation purposes. FDS then computes various CFD calculations for each grid cell to predict the movement of mass, energy, momentum and other species throughout a three-dimensional space. The Dowling Circle model consisted of 2,560,000 total grid cells that were each 3.9 inches (10 cm) cubes. The model spanned a total elapsed time of 27.5 minutes, beginning before the 911 call and ending just after flashover of the third floor and the firefighter MAYDAY. The model was synchronized real time with the scene audio throughout the duration of the fire. CONCLUSION: While no fire model will exactly replicate a fire, this model provided insight on the route of fire spread, the rapid flashover of the second and third level, and the potential benefits of compartmentation on slowing fire and smoke spread. The unidirectional flow path up the stairs from the terrace level apartment resulted in a high rate of convective heat transfer to the firefighters initially attempting to descend the stairs, making attacking the seat of the fire very difficult. The model then the fact that the main stairwell acted as an open channel for fire and smoke spread between the second and third levels, resulting in flashover of the third level in approximately 30 seconds after the second level. This rapid time to flashover is supported by photographs, witness statements and scene audio. The model was then utilized to explore the effects of compartmentation using apartment entrance doors. The FDS model supported the scene observations and indicated that shutting the entrance doors blocked the buoyancy driven ventilation flow paths through the structure and slowed the spread of fire and smoke, ultimately preventing fire extension to the third floor apartment via the stairwell. The FDS model was utilized as part of the overall engineering analysis of this tragic fire and was utilized to gain a better understanding of the events that led to the firefighter MAYDAY and subsequent Line of Duty Death. The model was also used as an educational tool, providing insight on potential methods of preventing similar tragedies in the future. The results of this engineering analysis are intended to be reviewed by the Post Incident Analysis Team to assist in the formation of recommendations to mitigate the danger associated with future fire incidents. TOWSON, Md. -- Baltimore County Police are investigating a video that has surfaced involving a police officer and a 19-year-old man who resisted arrest outside of the Greene Turtle bar in Towson released on Saturday. Cell phone video that was shot by a bystander is on YouTube, shows three officers trying to place Zachary Carson Blumenstein under arrest. One officer hits Blumenstein numerous times as he resists. "There are other techniques for restraint that our officers are taught in the academy," says Baltimore County police spokesperson Elise Armacost. "The point where Chief Johnson became concerned is the point at which the closed fist is used to strike the head." Chief Jim Johnson of Baltimore County Police says use of force training requires officers to use the minimal force that's required to bring a situation under control and to escalate that use of force based on circumstances. Johnson also says while it appeared that the officer involved did escalate the use of force as required, he's concerned about the cop's use of a closed fist to hit the suspect several times. Officials say the officer approached Blumenstein about 40 minutes before the incident occurred on video, around 1:20 a.m. The man was having a verbal dispute in front of the bar; five other men tried restraining him. The officer ordered Blumenstein to leave, which he ignored and started yelling profanities. "He was combative from the moment the officer first interacted with him," Armacost says. "The first time he was simply told you've got to move along." The five men removed the 19-year-old from the area. Later on around 2:00 in the morning, the officer saw Zachary Blumenstein push a man on the 400 block of York Road. After the cop told the suspect he was under arrest, he kept resisting, even after the officer told him to stop. Another policeman came to assist with the arrest. One of the cops sprayed pepper spray to subdue the suspect, but he continued to not cooperate. Zachary Carson Blumenstein attends Dickinson College and is from Chevy Chase, MD. He is charged with resisting arrest, disturbing the peace, disorderly conduct, trespassing, and failure to obey a police officer. He was later released after a written promise to appear in court. Armacost calls the cell phone footage helpful, but says it doesn't tell the whole story. "It does not show what led up the incident. It doesn't show what happened 30-40 minutes before. It doesn't show what the officer was thinking and it doesn't tell you what was being said," she says. -

Civil Rights Violated by Baltimore County Police
I apologize about the poor quality, the video was shot with my cellphone, which was in my breast pocket. On 06/05/2015, I was stopped by, Officer Timothy Kent, badge #5223, pulled me over for taking pictures of him screaming at a man on the side of the road. While going to the store, I observed Officer Kent, on the side of the road, screaming in the face of another civilian. At this point I picked up my Nikon D3300 DSLR camera, and began taking pictures of the officer and civilian during their interaction. The man noticed me taking pictures, and, noticeably upset, pointed this out to officer. Rosedale MD, Baltimore County 5/28/13 A cargo train struck a dumptruck carrying trash at an unmarked crossing. A fire broke out in the stopped train followed by a MASSIVE explosion that was felt in downtown Baltimore and all the way to the eastern shore of Maryland. On 06/05/2015, I was stopped by, Officer Timothy Kent, badge #5223, pulled me over for taking pictures of him screaming at a man on the side of the road.
While going to the store, I observed Officer Kent, on the side of the road, screaming in the face of another civilian. At this point I picked up my Nikon D3300 DSLR camera, and began taking pictures of the officer and civilian during their interaction. The man noticed me taking pictures, and, noticeably upset, pointed this out to officer.
Kent began yelling at me across one lane of traffic that I was not allowed to "operate a handheld device while driving". I simply stated, "I'm not driving, I'm sitting here", as I was stopped at a red light with several other vehicles. Kent did not like this, and initiated a traffic stop, pulling me over to the side of the road.
When I initially pulled over, Kent began rapping on my window in a very aggressive manner, repeating over and over, "License and Registration, License and Registration, License and Registration". I objected to the stop, stated I was handing my papers over under protest and duress, and complied with the officers orders. I was then ordered out of the vehicle, which is where this video begins.
I was given a citation under TA-21-1124.2(d2):
(d) Prohibited use of handheld telephone while vehicle is in motion.-
(2) A driver of a motor vehicle that is in motion may not use the driver's hands to use a handheld telephone other than to initiate or terminate a wireless telephone call or to turn on or turn off the handheld telephone.
At no time did I have my "mobile telephone" in my hands while the vehicle was in motion, nor did I have it in my hand at all prior to Kent pulling me over. This was a blatant violation of my 1st amendment right, as the only reason I was pulled over was because I was taking the officer's picture.
During the stop, Kent never identified himself and never gave a valid reason for the stop. Two other officers who arrived on scene did ID themselves as required by policy.
Officer Kent did not come to court to justify his actions as he knew they were illegal.
To the cowardly officer Timothy Kent, I do not forgive, I do not forget.
You will be hearing from me in the future. You better have a damn good lawyer.

The 50-second video shows officer Earomirski and McLeod in a Reisterstown alley.
"The suspect had nowhere to go except to go back through the officer," Chief Johnson says. "That individual was advancing on my police officer with a gun drawn. His hand was behind his back, in his waistband. Officers know that's a common way to carry a weapon."
Police released the unedited video showing the seconds leading up to the shooting through a few seconds after the shots were fired.
"(McLeod) whipped that arm around, in less than a microsecond that officer had to make a decision, a decision that could save his life and he did," Chief Johnson says.
McLeod was hit three times in his upper torso and leg.
"You will note the suspect while still on the ground is trying to dig in to his dip or waistline for what the officer perceived as a weapon," Chief Johnson says.
McLeod did not have a weapon. But Johnson says his actions indicated he did and Officer Earomirski did everything correctly.
The officer is a nine-and-a-half-year veteran.
"He's spent his entire time in patrol division. He's one of my finest officers."
This is the first shooting he's been involved in.
"This footage does not contain any audio," Chief Johnson says. "Witnesses have advised us that the officer pleaded with the individual saying, 'You don't want to do this. You don't want to do this. You don't want to do this.' The suspect on the other hand, according to witnesses and others, repeatedly used profanities, screamed and yelled at the officer, 'I'm going to kill you. I'm going to kill you. I'm going to kill you.' My police officer had one second to make a life or death decision."
The chief says the department has been in contact with an attorney for McLeod's family. He is from Washington D.C.
Police are still investigating this incident. The officer is on routine administrative leave.

BACKGROUND:
Working closely with the Post Incident Analysis Team, the ATF Fire Research Laboratory created a computer representation of the garden apartment building using Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS). FDS is a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling program developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). FDS utilizes mathematical calculations to predict the flow of heat, smoke and other byproducts of fire. Smokeview, a post-processer computer program also produced by NIST, was then used to visualize the mathematical output from FDS. The most current available versions of both programs were used, FDS 5.5.3 and Smokeview 5.6.
The garden apartment building at 30 Dowling Circle was attached to two similar garden apartment buildings, one on each side. The fire damage was isolated to 30 Dowling Circle, so the exposure buildings were not included in the computer fire model. The entire six unit garden apartment building was modeled in FDS, including the patio and balconies on the rear of the building. FDS works by dividing a space into cubical "grid cells" for calculation purposes. FDS then computes various CFD calculations for each grid cell to predict the movement of mass, energy, momentum and other species throughout a three-dimensional space. The Dowling Circle model consisted of 2,560,000 total grid cells that were each 3.9 inches (10 cm) cubes. The model spanned a total elapsed time of 27.5 minutes, beginning before the 911 call and ending just after flashover of the third floor and the firefighter MAYDAY. The model was synchronized real time with the scene audio throughout the duration of the fire.
CONCLUSION:
While no fire model will exactly replicate a fire, this model provided insight on the route of fire spread, the rapid flashover of the second and third level, and the potential benefits of compartmentation on slowing fire and smoke spread. The unidirectional flow path up the stairs from the terrace level apartment resulted in a high rate of convective heat transfer to the firefighters initially attempting to descend the stairs, making attacking the seat of the fire very difficult. The model then the fact that the main stairwell acted as an open channel for fire and smoke spread between the second and third levels, resulting in flashover of the third level in approximately 30 seconds after the second level. This rapid time to flashover is supported by photographs, witness statements and scene audio. The model was then utilized to explore the effects of compartmentation using apartment entrance doors. This video summarizes the ATF Fire Research Laboratory's Engineering Analysis of the fire that occurred at 30 Dowling Circle on January 19th, 2011 using actual scene audio, photographs and computer fire modeling video. ATF Fire Protection Engineers were asked to utilize engineering analysis methods, including computer fire modeling, to assist with determining the route of fire spread and the events that led to the firefighter MAYDAY and subsequent Line of Duty Death of Firefighter Mark Falkenhan.

BACKGROUND:
Working closely with the Post Incident Analysis Team, the ATF Fire Research Laboratory created a computer representation of the garden apartment building using Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS). FDS is a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling program developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). FDS utilizes mathematical calculations to predict the flow of heat, smoke and other byproducts of fire. Smokeview, a post-processer computer program also produced by NIST, was then used to visualize the mathematical output from FDS. The most current available versions of both programs were used, FDS 5.5.3 and Smokeview 5.6.
The garden apartment building at 30 Dowling Circle was attached to two similar garden apartment buildings, one on each side. The fire damage was isolated to 30 Dowling Circle, so the exposure buildings were not included in the computer fire model. Cell phone video that was shot by a bystander is on YouTube, shows three officers trying to place Zachary Carson Blumenstein under arrest.
One officer hits Blumenstein numerous times as he resists.
"There are other techniques for restraint that our officers are taught in the academy," says Baltimore County police spokesperson Elise Armacost. "The point where Chief Johnson became concerned is the point at which the closed fist is used to strike the head."
Chief Jim Johnson of Baltimore County Police says use of force training requires officers to use the minimal force that's required to bring a situation under control and to escalate that use of force based on circumstances. Johnson also says while it appeared that the officer involved did escalate the use of force as required, he's concerned about the cop's use of a closed fist to hit the suspect several times.
Officials say the officer approached Blumenstein about 40 minutes before the incident occurred on video, around 1:20 a.m. The man was having a verbal dispute in front of the bar; five other men tried restraining him. The officer ordered Blumenstein to leave, which he ignored and started yelling profanities.
"He was combative from the moment the officer first interacted with him," Armacost says. "The first time he was simply told you've got to move along."
The five men removed the 19-year-old from the area. Later on around 2:00 in the morning, the officer saw Zachary Blumenstein push a man on the 400 block of York Road. After the cop told the suspect he was under arrest, he kept resisting, even after the officer told him to stop. Another policeman came to assist with the arrest. One of the cops sprayed pepper spray to subdue the suspect, but he continued to not cooperate.

He is charged with resisting arrest, disturbing the peace, disorderly conduct, trespassing, and failure to obey a police officer. He was later released after a written promise to appear in court.
Armacost calls the cell phone footage helpful, but says it doesn't tell the whole story.
"It does not show what led up the incident. It doesn't show what happened 30-40 minutes before. It doesn't show what the officer was thinking and it doesn't tell you what was being said," she says.

A cargo train struck a dumptruck carrying trash at an unmarked crossing. A fire broke out in the stopped train followed by a MASSIVE explosion that was felt in downtown Baltimore and all the way to the eastern shore of Maryland. The driver of the dumptruck, a retired Baltimore County firefighter, was trapped in the wreckage. He was the only injury and is recovering in the hospital. A total of 15 rail cars derailed, most from the explosion which also mangled the tracks. It was so powerful that 4 nearby warehouses sustained major structural damage.
First 6:30 contain Baltimore County Fire Department Dispatch Audio for the original alarm, followed by a Building Collapse Alarm, Hazmat and a 2nd Alarm, which were called in fairly rapid succession. Baltimore City also sent a full hazmat box alarm which is not in heard this video. The remainder of the video contains Baltimore County Tactical Channels fireground audio for about the first 30-40 minutes of the incident.
The audio has been edited to remove dead air and some less important radio traffic. As a result the timeline is greatly condensed.

ROSEDALE, M.d. - "I see a kid come up to me all bloody and his head was busted open," said Mike Gartside.
Scary moments in Baltimore County after two 11-year-old boys playing outside fall into a pit. It happened around 6:30PM Sunday in Rosedale.
"Me and my sister was in the house, and he came in, and he was crying, and all his clothes were muddy and everything, he seemed like he was in pain," said Cameron Minter.
His little brother, Makai, managed to climb out, but his friend was still underground in the deep hole.
"I go to look down in it and I hear somebody screaming up to me help, so then I realized there was somebody down in there, jumped on the phone, called 911, told them to get as many people out here as possible to save this kid," Gartside said.
When crews got to the scene, the boy was stuck about 30-feet down in the ground. It took nearly 45-minutes to get him out.
"The child was rescued by lowering a rope system down into the hole, with a rescuer placing a harness around the child, and then lifting the child and rescuer both up out of the hole," Lt. Tim Rostkowksi with the Baltimore County Fire Department said.
Officials say the pit may have been an old well that was covered with landscaping material, dirt and mulch. It's unclear if the hole was completely filled, or if there was an open cavity underground.
"The children went outside and started jumping on it, and that's when the soft spot in the ground caved in,” said Rostkowski.
Makai’s mother tells ABC2 News the boys walked over the spot after leaving the McDonalds on Kenwood Avenue. They told her the ground felt bouncy, and when they jumped, they plunged into the hole.
"It was just a disaster waiting to happen, if you ask me," said Gartside.
"Putting mulch over a hole is not covering the hole, my brother coulda died, like you're not understanding, my brother coulda lost his life," Minter said.
Both boys were taken to Johns Hopkins. Makai fell and hit his head when he was trying to climb out of the hole, his family says he needed three staples in his head for that gash, four stitches in his finger, two stitches in his arm, and the rest of his body is covered with cuts and bruises.
County officials tell us the hole is on McDonalds’ property, and they plan to completely fill it in this week.

Both boys were taken to Johns Hopkins. Makai fell and hit his head when he was trying to climb out of the hole, his family says he needed three staples in his head for that gash, four stitches in his finger, two stitches in his arm, and the rest of his body is covered with cuts and bruises.
County officials tell us the hole is on McDonalds’ property, and they plan to completely fill it in this week.
