Walter Scott, Jr. (born 1931 in Omaha, Nebraska) is an American civil engineer, philanthropist, and former CEO of Peter Kiewit Sons' Incorporated. Scott was the 1997 recipient of the Horatio Alger Award and consistently ranks among the wealthiest Americans. He sits on the Board of Berkshire Hathaway, and is a childhood friend of Warren Buffett. He became an Eagle Scout in 1946 and is a recipient of the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award. He graduated from Colorado State University in 1953 with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.

Scott serves on the board of directors of Berkshire Hathaway, Burlington Resources, Commonwealth Telephone Enterprises, Level 3 Communications Inc., MidAmerican Energy Holdings, RCN Corporation, Valmont Industries, and Peter Kiewit Sons' Inc. He is a director of the Joslyn Art Museum, Nebraska Game and Parks Foundation, and the Omaha Development Foundation. Nationally, he is a director of the Horatio Alger Association and the National Forest Association.

Scott was first elected to the Peter Kiewit Sons' Incorporated board in 1964. In 1979, he was elected president. When Peter Kiewit died later that same year, Scott was selected to succeed him as chairman.

Sir Walter Scott, 1st Baronet (15 August 1771 – 21 September 1832) was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, and poet, popular throughout much of the world during his time.

Scott was the first English-language author to have a truly international career in his lifetime, with many contemporary readers in Europe, Australia, and North America. His novels and poetry are still read, and many of his works remain classics of both English-language literature and of Scottish literature. Famous titles include Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, The Lady of the Lake, Waverley, The Heart of Midlothian and The Bride of Lammermoor.

Born in College Wynd in the Old Town of Edinburgh in 1771, the son of a solicitor, Scott survived a childhood bout of polio in 1773 that left him lame. To cure his lameness he was sent in 1773 to live in the rural Borders region at his paternal grandparents' farm at Sandyknowe, adjacent to the ruin of Smailholm Tower, the earlier family home. Here he was taught to read by his aunt Jenny, and learned from her the speech patterns and many of the tales and legends that characterised much of his work. In January 1775 he returned to Edinburgh, and that summer went with his aunt Jenny to take spa treatment at Bath in England, where they lived at 6 South Parade. In the winter of 1776 he went back to Sandyknowe, with another attempt at a water cure at Prestonpans during the following summer.

David Purdie (born Dumfries, 1966) is a Scottish ex professional footballer who played for Ayr United and home town club Queen of the South. Purdie was a goalkeeper.

After playing for Dumfries YMCA, Purdie began his senior career with Ayr United. He debuted in 1984 as did schoolfriend Malcolm Adams. Purdie played for Ayr in 132 league games over seven seasons. Purdie then joined Queen of the South where in his two seasons he played in 44 league games. Purdie's sequence of four consecutive clean sheets in senior games joined the likes of Allan Ball, George Farm and Alan Davidson by equalling the club record.
