Uncasville is an area in the town of Montville, Connecticut. The area traditionally known as Uncasville is a village in southeastern Montville, at the mouth of the Oxoboxo River. The name is now applied more generally to all of the east end of Montville, which is the area served by the Uncasville ZIP code, including the Mohegan reservation in northeastern Montville that is the site of the Mohegan Sun casino resort and the Mohegan Sun Arena.

Uncasville takes its name from Uncas, the 17th-century Mohegan sachem. Uncas established a fortified village for defense against the Pequot, now known as Fort Shantok, on an elevated site next to the Thames River near what is now the Mohegan Sun resort. He later was to welcome English colonial settlers to the Mohegan lands.

The village of Uncasville was the site of the first woolen mill in the United States, established by brothers John and Arthur Schofield. Their carding and spinning mill was located at the outlet of the Oxoboxo River.

In the 1950s the Olin Mathieson Chemical Corporation established a large manufacturing facility in the Sandy Desert section in northeastern Montville where Olin, and later the United Nuclear Corporation, produced nuclear reactor fuel components. After United Nuclear ceased its operations in about 1990, the site was cleaned up and released for unrestricted use. After the U.S. Department of the Interior granted federal recognition to the Mohegan tribe and the U.S. Congress passed the Mohegan Nation (Connecticut) Land Claim Settlement Act in 1994, the United Nuclear site became Mohegan reservation lands, transferred to the United States in trust, making the land available for Mohegan gaming operations. The Mohegan Sun casino opened there on October 12, 1996.

Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen (born September 23, 1949), nicknamed "The Boss," is an American singer-songwriter-performer who records and tours with the E Street Band. Springsteen was born in Long Branch, New Jersey, and spent his childhood and high school years in Freehold Borough. He lived on South Street in Freehold Borough and attended Freehold Borough High School. His father, Douglas Frederick Springsteen, was of Dutch and Irish ancestry and worked, among other vocations, as a bus driver, although he was frequently unemployed; his surname is Dutch for jump stone. His mother, Adele Ann (née Zerilli), was a legal secretary and was of Italian ancestry. His maternal grandfather was born in Vico Equense, a city near Naples. He has two younger sisters, Virginia and Pamela. Pamela had a brief film career, but left acting to pursue still photography full time; she took photos for the Human Touch and Lucky Town albums.

David Bowie ( /ˈboʊ.i/ BOH-ee; born David Robert Jones on 8 January 1947) is an English musician, actor, record producer and arranger. A major figure for over four decades in the world of popular music, Bowie is widely regarded as an innovator, particularly for his work in the 1970s. He is known for his distinctive voice and the intellectual depth and eclecticism of his work.

Bowie first caught the eye and ear of the public in July 1969, when his song "Space Oddity" reached the top five of the UK Singles Chart. After a three-year period of experimentation he re-emerged in 1972 during the glam rock era with the flamboyant, androgynous alter ego Ziggy Stardust, spearheaded by the hit single "Starman" and the album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. Bowie's impact at that time, as described by biographer David Buckley, "challenged the core belief of the rock music of its day" and "created perhaps the biggest cult in popular culture." The relatively short-lived Ziggy persona proved merely one facet of a career marked by continual reinvention, musical innovation and striking visual presentation.
