The EMD F59PH series of locomotives comprises two variants of locomotives built by EMD, the original F59PH and the newer F59PHI. These modern Diesel-electric locomotives are popular among North American commuter rail services.
The F59PH was the first in the "F59" Series of locomotives. Eighty-three locomotives were built from May 1988 to May 1994 for two commuter transit railroads, Metrolink of Los Angeles, California, USA and GO Transit of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. While Metrolink continues to use these locomotives today, in 2008, GO Transit began discontinuing operations using this locomotive in favour of the new MPI MP40PH-3C. Only eight locomotives that were refurbished in 2011 remain in service.
This locomotive is equipped with a turbocharged EMD 12-710G3A, a 12-cylinder, two-stroke Diesel engine (prime mover), front and rear platforms, a full-width cab with a three-piece windshield. Earlier EMD cowl-type locomotives had used a two-piece windshield, while the Canadian comfort cab used a four-piece design.
At the Los Angeles Union Station Amtrak 463, an F59PHI gets added to the southbound Pacific Surfliner 790. Surfliner 790 arrived late in Union station on 05/29/2015, where an extra locomotive was added at the front of the train because 451 would not have enough fuel to make it to San Diego.
Sound Transit Sounder EMD F59PHI #911 operating as Train #1519 to Lakewood departing Tacoma. This was recorded with a Sony HDR-CX260.
Last update on Amtrak California set. I installed 2 Soundtraxx Soundcars! One in the cab car and another mid train. Perfect to add more sound effects and more realism. Note that I still to optimize the 2 soundcars to run as "consist". Which means that the sounds are not to my liking yet. The Soundcar decoder is an excellent product. Very easy to consist to the locomotive and highly adjustable. For the cab car I'm particular, I custom installed a full light package and custom installed enclosed speakers. I wish EMD/Caterpillar would bring them back. Sorry that I haven't included other passenger trains that run in the west coast such: Altamont, Caltrain, Coaster, Metrolink & Coast Starlight. Enjoy it.
Here we have a cab ride in Sounder F59PHI 911. We ride from Seattle, WA to Tacoma, WA in a warm Summer morning, roughly four years ago. Enjoy! **Video taken with permission!! Shot with a Panasonic tape-based camcorder and edited with Sony Vegas Pro 9.0.
Taken on 11/8/08 in Sorrento Valley. Train 1: Coaster 690 with Cab 2306 and F59PHI 3001 Train 2: Stalled Coaster ??? F40PHM-2C 2103, cab 2307 Train 3: F59PHI 455 Operation Lifesaver Unit with Amtrak 774. Cab was 6953. Enjoy!
You might say that 455 is the most interesting locomotive on the Surfline. 455 has been to Las Vegas on the trial run of the Las Vegas Talgo. This engine was known as the "dirty nose unit" due to the excessive paint wear down on the nose of the locomotive. Athearn made an HO scale model of the engine. And now, 455 proudly wears an Operation Lifesaver Paint Scheme. This video is a tribute to 455 and its many years on the Surf Line. Shots included are in order by year from oldest to newest, starting in the year 2004 and ending in December, 2008. Enjoy! Video ID #: 100
Is this what you expected
The day that you enlisted
To kill
And he's not afraid to blow you away
Flying, soaring, bombing
Bringing death to those innocent
Crash burn
My dad's an F16 pilot
Crash burn
Is this the price that the invaded must pay for our liberation
A fee of blood
Flying soaring bombing
Bringing death to those innocent
You take them
You force them to fight
What happens to the family
