Ms.

...Women, for political reasons, job reasons, PERSONAL reasons, need to know other women throughout the state with similar inclinations. So we have set up a communication system..."
Senator Arthenia Joyner -
Some read history; she made it. Senator Joyner was the first black female attorney in Hillsborough County and the first black female

Florida Senate Democratic Leader.
Ms.
Eleanor Collier McWilliams
Chamberlain -
Tampa's first advocate for women's rights also organized
Florida's first suffrage organization in
1895. In addition to helping women vote, she later campaigned for "Women's Pensions." This was an early form of
Social Security for widows and children.
The Hillsborough County
Women's Hall of Fame was created by the Hillsborough County Commission on the Status of Women to honor women who, through their lives and efforts, have made significant contributions to the improvement of life for women and for all citizens of Hillsborough County.
The Commission maintains and facilitates the permanent display of the Women's Hall of Fame.
