An urban legend is a form of modern folklore consisting of stories that may or may not have been believed by their tellers to be true, and often possess horror implications that are believable to their audience. And just like creepypastas, the scariest urban legends are the ones that actually happened to real people. Some live to tell the tale, while others weren't so lucky. So today, I'm going to countdown the creepiest urban legends that turned out to be true.
Despite its name, an urban legend does not necessarily originate in an urban area. Rather, the term is used to differentiate modern legend from traditional folklore of pre-industrial times. For this reason, sociologists and folklorists prefer the term "contemporary legend". Because people frequently allege that such tales happened to a "friend of a friend" (FOAF), the phrase has become a commonly used term when recounting this type of story.
Sometimes urban legends are repeated in news stories, or distributed by e-mail or social media. Examples include the news story of an alleged mass panic in America in 1938, after a radio drama describing a Martian invasion, or a repeated claim dating from 1972 that a large percentage of people have a biological father who is not their assumed father and are therefore illegitimate.
Some urban legends have passed through the years with only minor changes to suit regional variations. One example is the story of a woman killed by spiders nesting in her elaborate hairdo. More recent legends tend to reflect modern circumstances, like the story of people ambushed and anesthetized, who awaken minus one kidney, which was supposedly surgically removed for transplantation (a story which folklorists refer to as "The Kidney Heist")

An urban legend is a story that is passed down over the years that is usually based on myths and no real evidence, but some Urban legends, are loosely based on real life events, and sometimes years after the legend has started an event will take place that mimics it, turning it from a legend to a real life event. So from the story of a dead body under the bed to the killer in the back seat, here are five urban legends that were either based on true events or later turned from legends to real stories.

I really have no intro for this. Cursed poems, cursed flash animations, cursed dreams, cursed mirrors and a whole slew of demons, these are the top 30 creepiest japanese urban legends.
Japanese urban legends (都市伝説 Toshi Densetsu) are enduring modern folktales of either:
paranormal creatures and their attacks on (usually) innocent victims; or
non-supernatural, widespread rumours in popular culture.
The former rarely include the fantastical or animistic yokai of earlier Japanese superstition, and are mostly based on onryo (Japanese ghosts who have become vengeful spirits and take their aggression out on any who cross their path). Modern urban legends tend to include Japanese schools and, similar to the yokai legends, incorporate cautionary tales into their stories, warning people not to bully others, walk home late at night, or talk to strangers. An urban legend is a form of modern folklore consisting of stories that may or may not have been believed by their tellers to be true, and often possess horror implications that are believable to their audience. And just like creepypastas, the scariest urban legends are the ones that actually happened to real people. Some live to tell the tale, while others weren't so lucky. So today, I'm going to countdown the creepiest urban legends that turned out to be true.
Despite its name, an urban legend does not necessarily originate in an urban area. Rather, the term is used to differentiate modern legend from traditional folklore of pre-industrial times. For this reason, sociologists and folklorists prefer the term "contemporary legend". Because people frequently allege that such tales happened to a "friend of a friend" (FOAF), the phrase has become a commonly used term when recounting this type of story.
Sometimes urban legends are repeated in news stories, or distributed by e-mail or social media. Examples include the news story of an alleged mass panic in America in 1938, after a radio drama describing a Martian invasion, or a repeated claim dating from 1972 that a large percentage of people have a biological father who is not their assumed father and are therefore illegitimate.
Some urban legends have passed through the years with only minor changes to suit regional variations. One example is the story of a woman killed by spiders nesting in her elaborate hairdo. More recent legends tend to reflect modern circumstances, like the story of people ambushed and anesthetized, who awaken minus one kidney, which was supposedly surgically removed for transplantation (a story which folklorists refer to as "The Kidney Heist")

I really have no intro for this. Cursed poems, cursed flash animations, cursed dreams, cursed mirrors and a whole slew of demons, these are the top 30 creepiest japanese urban legends.
Japanese urban legends (都市伝説 Toshi Densetsu) are enduring modern folktales of either:
paranormal creatures and their attacks on (usually) innocent victims; or
non-supernatural, widespread rumours in popular culture.
The former rarely include the fantastical or animistic yokai of earlier Japanese superstition, and are mostly based on onryo (Japanese ghosts who have become vengeful spirits and take their aggression out on any who cross their path). Modern urban legends tend to include Japanese schools and, similar to the yokai legends, incorporate cautionary tales into their stories, warning people not to bully others, walk home late at night, or talk to strangers. Although there are non-supernatural urban legends in Japan's cities, such as the secret Tokyo tunnels or the corpse-washing job rumour.

Learning about a culture different than yours is usually a fun and rewarding experience, but every culture has their own set of urban legends to scare friends and frighten children. So today, I'm going to count down the scariest Mexican urban legends. This list will mainly feature legends from mexico as well as some from more Latin America. With that being said, this is the top 20 creepiest Mexican urban legends.

Mexico, officially the United Mexican States (Spanish: Estados Unidos Mexicanos, About this sound listen is a federal republic in North America. It is bordered on the north by the United States; on the south and west by the Pacific Ocean; on the southeast by Guatemala, Belize, and the Caribbean Sea; and on the east by the Gulf of Mexico. Covering almost two million square kilometers (over 760,000 sq mi), Mexico is the fifth largest country in the Americas by total area and the 13th largest independent nation in the world. With an estimated population of over 120 million, it is the eleventh most populous and the most populous Spanish-speaking country in the world and the second most populous country in Latin America. Mexico is a federation comprising thirty-one states and a Federal District, its capital and largest city.
Pre-Columbian Mexico was home to many advanced Mesoamerican civilizations, such as the Olmec, the Toltec, the Teotihuacan, the Zapotec, the Maya and the Aztec before first contact with Europeans. In 1521, the Spanish Empire conquered and colonized the territory from its base in Mexico-Tenochtitlan, which was administered as the Viceroyalty of New Spain. This territory would eventually become Mexico following recognition of the colony's independence in 1821. The tumultuous post-independence period was characterized by economic instability, the Mexican-American War that led to the territorial cession to the United States, the Pastry War, the Franco-Mexican War, a civil war, two empires and a domestic dictatorship. The latter led to the Mexican Revolution in 1910, which culminated with the promulgation of the 1917 Constitution and the emergence of the country's current political system.
Mexico has one of the world's largest and most diversified economies, with an abundance of natural resources such as oil and silver. It has the fifteenth largest nominal GDP and the eleventh largest GDP by purchasing power parity. The Mexican economy is strongly linked to those of its North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners, especially the United States. Mexico was the first Latin American member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development OECD (since 1994), and is classified as an upper-middle income country by the World Bank and a newly industrialized country by several analysts. By 2050, Mexico could become the world's fifth or seventh largest economy. The country is subsequently considered both a regional power and middle power, and is often identified as an emerging global power. Why are young men on London's council estates performing deviant acts on a person they call "Spitman"? This is a journey through the depths of West London. A story of what some of the young men on these estates will do for money.
For the last ten years, numerous generations have been meeting a person known as Spitman. Gathering in stairwells they'll meet him and take their turn. All in exchange for cash. Is Spitman taking advantage of the boys? Are they taking advantage of him? This is a strange story that gets stranger the deeper you get.
Here is a note from the director, Marlon Rouse Tavares:
'Last year, I was sitting in Pizza Express when a friend called saying, "Bruv, I've just heard about the maddest thing." I'd never heard the name Spitman before, but I was about to find out that a lot of other people had.
Spitman has been around for at least 13 years. He will pay groups of young guys to do weird things to him on the council estates on West London. This was a story that had to be told.
Most people's reaction to my plans was "Why make a film about that?" We're constantly being presented with narratives that are easily digestible, where it's clear what we're meant to feel and what side we're meant to take. The Spitman story is complex and difficult. It makes people uncomfortable, most people don't want to hear about these things.
The film was shot between midnight and 3AM. I wanted to visit these locations and interview the boys with no disturbances, no distractions. There was a lot of late-night lurking. The boys who feature in the film were brilliant. Despite it being a part of their lives they hadn't really shared before, they were so open and honest with me. Some of what they say is much more profound than my voice over.
I'd like to say that this is not a journalistic film, it's not an episode of Panorama. I'm not popping up at the end with a conclusion or telling you what to think. I'm not going to say these ones are the villains or those are the victims. People will watch this and have a range of different feelings and opinions at the end. And that is the point.
I won't tell people to enjoy the film, because "enjoy" is the wrong word. But I hope they allow themselves to be fully consumed by it.'

All three of these articles are done tastefully and factually. Raymond Robinson was a local legend in Western PA near where I grew up. We always told stories that "The Green Man" will get you, among other scary tales when I was a kid, like Crybaby Bridge.
Raymond was a real person and is slowly turning into a true legend. Raymond "Ray" Robinson (October 29, 1910 – June 11, 1985) was a severely disfigured man whose years of nighttime walks made him into a figure of urban legend in western Pennsylvania. Robinson was so badly injured in a childhood electrical accident that he could not go out in public without fear of creating a panic, so he went for long walks at night. Local tourists, who would drive along his road in hopes of meeting him, called him The Green Man or Charlie No-Face. They passed on tales about him to their children and grandchildren, and people raised on these tales are sometimes surprised to discover that he was a real person who was liked by his family and neighbors.

Crybaby Bridge is a nickname given to some bridges in the United States. The name often reflects an urban legend that the sound of a baby can be, or has been, heard from the bridge. Many are also accompanied by an urban legend of a baby or young child/children being killed nearby, or thrown from the bridge into the river or creek below.

Crybaby Bridge off Egypt Road
Although the bridge is off of Egypt Road near Salem, Ohio, it is actually on what used to be West Pine Lake Rd., which now dead-ends to the east of the bridge. Legends attribute the crying baby to one that fell in and accidentally drowned. There is also a rumor that there is a cult of some sort in the woods surrounding the bridge. In 2010, there was a murder of an elderly woman that was found, strangled to death and burned just off the bridge. The closed road remains as an access way to high-voltage utility lines. The "baby cries" can be heard at night or during the day.

Crybaby Bridge is a nickname given to some bridges in the United States. The name often reflects an urban legend that the sound of a baby can be, or has been, heard from the bridge. Many are also accompanied by an urban legend of a baby or young child/children being killed nearby, or thrown from the bridge into the river or creek below.
Egypt Road, Salem
Crybaby Bridge off Egypt Road
Although the bridge is off of Egypt Road near Salem, Ohio, it is actually on what used to be West Pine Lake Rd., which now dead-ends to the east of the bridge. Legends attribute the crying baby to one that fell in and accidentally drowned. There is also a rumor that there is a cult of some sort in the woods surrounding the bridge. In 2010, there was a murder of an elderly woman that was found, strangled to death and burned just off the bridge. The closed road remains as an access way to high-voltage utility lines. The "baby cries" can be heard at night or during the day.
